  1. Further points about the older Focus raised by an owner (also my driving school teacher, btw):

"the Sport +2.0 current model is the best deal in terms of price, engine capacity and safety features. The Focus itself provides more stability and firm suspension comparing to other cars in the same segment.

    Three unsatisfactory points:

    a. fuel consumption is not very effective approx. 8-10 km./L in city driving and 14 km./L in country driving

    b. the noise of the brake, I always hear the noise when applying foot brake and the service center cannot fix this. There are complaints from many customers especially the ones who bought the first model from 2005-2007. I am not sure if the later model from 2008-present have been fixed on this problem

    c. part prices are much higher comparing to Japanese cars like Toyota, Mitsubishi and Nissan."

    Food for thought?

  2. HMMMMM even more to think about, but will make a test drive later this week hopefully! The irony is we need a car for the wet season & now its raining constantly in Phuket I cant get to the delaership on the scooter due to the rain! smile.png

The wife is leaning towards the fiesta it seems, after she actually understood the waiting time for the Jazz, and with the govt rebate I think this mayeb an unbeatable deal for us?

Not sure you qualify for the rebate with the Fiesta. Only the 1.4 L basic models would qualify (549 K MT to 584 K for AT). The top of the range at 759 K would not as the motor is a 1.6 L.

  3. Also 850000 is about my limit for budget to be honest, perhaps the top fiesta and keep some cash.......

Another solution: they have the Focus 1.8 L available in BKK at 819.000 (scratch about 10 K in negotiations, and that would make it 810-800 K with luck). A better car for the buck, and less of that flimsy steering, I guess... The difference is minimum with your Fiesta (ok, maybe not leather seats and gadgets, LOL).

  4. Purchasing a new ISUZU D-MAX, V-CROSS

All it has done is cost them a sale and bad advertising and no recommendation from me.post-4641-1156693976.gif

    Pays to shop around.

Sorry to disappoint you, but this dealership's clients are probably in majority Thai and hence they could not care less for your recommendation. It is true that you must shop around instead, and have no qualms about playing one dealership vs the other (even between different brands).

  5. Where can I buy a top of the rage all new almera quickly

Do not even mind second hand??

Please help being told up to 5 months in chiangmai

    Ron

5 months for an Almera!! Wow. Also why top of the range do you actually want the stupid button starter?

Many Nissan garages around Bkk have them fly down buy it then drive back up.

Actually, the waiting time in BKK is of 3 months.

  6. Basically, the new Focus 2.0 model will start at 1.079.000 THB. The 1.6 is not scheduled before January and will cost 759.000 THB for manual and 799.000 THB for automatic.

If you can wait until January, it might be worth expecting the 1.6 (although I keep in mind the comments on the Mazda 3 1.6: motor has difficulty with the weight of the car).

The pricing left me a bit questioning: is the new focus not going to cannibalize the sales of the top of the line Fiesta (also 759.000 THB).

Maybe, in marketing terms, they are sufficiently differentiated by targeting a different public. Thai ladies will certainly love the little toy and its ease of driving. The motor makes itself heard quite easily though... So not sure how it fares at greater speeds.

Side note: I had a test drive in the Ford Fiesta this Sunday... I was totally put off by the steering wheel... Turns around asif you had a toy car. Very easy to park, that is granted. But I am not sure I would feel safe with this "toy" on the motorway.

  7. Only going by what I read. You seem very defensive. You must be a Ranger owner. Why not enlighten us about the car?

Not defensive only don't want some others, who will be looking for a new car/truck to get the wrong information...

Here is some reading for you:

    http://www.thaivisa....ger-t6-22-tdci/

    http://usnews.rankin...ks/Ford_Ranger/

As mentioned by other members, this refers to the older model. And it is quite obvious from the picture as well. wink.png

Mike sorry, this is ridiculous. You don't know the car, out of the many reviews available you pick one where you claim it said 'Lack of interior space and poor handling. Also high depreciation in Thailand.', and you leave all other, positive reviews, alone. When asked about this review you can't produce it. Either produce it or don't mention it.

And just for Mike, here is one of the positive reviews:

    http://www.themotorreport.com.au/52543/2012-ford-px-ranger-xlt-xl-auto-manual-review

Comfort: With wide-opening doors, well-padded seats and appealing tactile surfaces - like 'cold-feel' door handles, appealing seat fabrics, padded door-rests – the Ranger XLT feels more like a modern sedan than a ‘fourby’ ute, both for the snug ambience of the interior, and for its isolation and refinement.

And, front and back, it’s roomy. The B-pillars have been moved forward in the twin-cab to create larger rear-door openings and larger rear glass. The doors open ‘square’, at close to 90-degrees, to make getting in and out easier.

And, in the back, there’s ample room for Lenny, Dags and Gino (we put a 6'2" guinea-pig in there for a knee and headroom check), and oodles of room for the young family.

  9. I am considering purchasing a Hilux Vigo smart cab 3.0G 4wd. I don't really need the 4WD version but found a new one available to purchase off the showroom floor after the orginal owner cancelled their order at the last moment. I am renting a car at the moment 15K a month, so i have talked myself into the 4WD, because if I ordered the two wheel drive version I am saving 15K per month multplied by 3-5 ++? mths delivery time.

Now to the question. I was going to put in my wife's name for the rebate, however the dealership advised me that the rebate value on this particular vehicle is only 20K. I undetsand that the rebate is max to 100K and based on the tax of the individ vehicle, however, Can someone confirm this vehicle rebate is only 20K or post a web link where I could check.

(also should I be a bit suspect that the new car ended up on the showroom floor and not offered to one of the many other customers on the waitlist?)

It depends on the exact model, but rebate would be more like 80K. There ahve been a few threads about the rebate here including links.

I stand corrected, see this link for rebate amounts, Champ Smart Cab 3.0G 4WD is 20,000 Baht.

do you have a link for rebate amounts on something like a fortuna?

I think all the Fortunas are over 1m? If so you are out of luck, or were, as one of the original criteria to qualify was for it to be less than 1m baht - unless this changed?

Actually it is the motor specs that would also bar the Fortuners. Motors (excepting pickups) must be below 1.5 cc.

  10. I could order a new Fiesta for 700,000 and get a full years

insurance, full warranty, plus 10,000 worth of extras thrown in,

worth in total around 30,000.. .think you are going to have

    to take a bigger hit.

Agree that if you look at the 650k baht as a cash price then it's way too high. But if someone wants (and is able) to take over the payments then the 650k would include the financing costs, which might make it worth it to some people. If you bought the new Fiesta for 700k on finance, the total price including financing costs would be much higher than 700k (unless you can get zero percent or very low interest rate), and it's the total you should compare with the 650k, not just the sales price.

If a cash buyer would want to buy the car, the OP should be able to get back (some of) the remaining interest, which would make the price less than 650k.

That said, I have no idea what would be a reasonable price for the car.

    Sophon

    Sophon

Are there not also additional costs incurred when you transfer finance? I believe (given the Fiesta is the older model and given the costs involved and the lower resale value of Ford in Thailand) that the OP will need to take a harder hit than he expects. A way to have a feel for the price is to look on www.thaicar.com or www.one2car.com.

  11. Hello there... Just to update some news I got from a dealer in BKK on the Ford Ranger status. For a 4WD XLT, apparently the delivery delay is now of 4 months. For wildtraks (2.2) the dealer told me it would go up to 1 year.

This is in total conflict to my dealers words.

The promise is now July, which matches the 1st letter from Ford back in February.

I just saw about 10 Isuzu DMAX V-Cross all burgundy coloured on the lot down the road.... tempted...

Well, I just quoted the mail of the dealer I've been in touch with. This waiting period is for new orders. As to you, I guess you passed your order some times ago. wink.png

The best one was when i walked into the Toyota dealership of Petchburi road... 4 months too for a 4WD Toyota Hilux Vigo!

The most common answer is that the greatest part of the production is reserved for export and that only about 20 % of the production is for the interior market... Toyota said the same thing. In addition, the floods of last year seem to have driven very high the demand for these sort of offroad tanks.

4 months for an XLT might be playable (not so many issues with manual drive as far as I'm concerned, but I'm still a novice driver, so a bit more worried about controlling the car in the first few months). I was thinking instead of opting for a ford focus (I live in BKK, so space is also a consideration) old model, as they are now discounted. BTW, the ford focus has the rear parking sensors. ;)

  13. Hello everyone. I am French (I think I spotted one or two of them on this forum), still not too old (not yet 40) and I work in Bangkok in the Pharma sector, as a legal counsel. I learned to drive and got my driving license for the first time in my life in Thailand... So, I'll probably be lurking around the motoring section (was reading a lot until now).

I am in Thailand since 10 months now, and have been enjoying a quiet life here. Somehow, and for now, I can say I feel enough at home here, despite all the inconveniences of daily life. My training in Thai traffic was even an adequate experience to prepare me for driving in Philippines!
