you have to sign a form that says you are not going to work. i dont think you would qualify as retired. you shouldnt need visas just the visa waiver stamp.
if you really need a domicile try cambodia. few hunderd dollars and you get a year visa.
I believe that refers to work in Thailand.

A Thai would not do this.
Isn't that line getting a bit passe?

only 73? it certainly cant be death from old age or natural causes. something is obviously amiss.
Oh here we go already. FOUL PLAY??? Many people die of natural causes at this and younger ages. You come across like a bitter old man with nothing but time to think negatively.

Where I live I became Tourist police volunteer.......Nooooooooooo, not a street walker...........Just on the end of a phone to help farang folk if needed.......Why did I do that, one of the reasons.............?.............
You always wanted to wear the uniform and look important?
Nope, try again........
I don't have a uniform..........
So are you going to share your secret or are we now playing 20 questions on TV?

I personally saw immigration police threaten to arrest my next door neighbour just for moving a washing basket in his wifes laundry shop, so he could sit down on a chair. ….
About fifteen years ago, here in Phuket, a man was arrested and deported due to carrying a sack of lemons to his wife who manned the stall in a market.
What a lovely place to live.
People complain when they don't enforce the law. People complain when they do.
Frankly, I think some people just like to complain.
Frankly I think you are an idiot if you believe helping ones wife to unpack or pack at a market is something that should require a WP. In Thailand laws against stupid offenses that hurt no-one are enforced if a Farang is involved because it is easy work and a good source of tea money. But laws that forbid drink driving, or burning rice fields and rubbish are rarely enforced because they mainly involve a Thai. Face it, this is a country of very bigotted people who seemingly just do not like Farangs.
Nah,you got it wrong, they like money and we are suckers waiting to be milked.
Isn't that essentially what I said when I mentioned tea money?

It's real simple. You know converting from Islam is illegal. If you convert from Islam, you know you're breaking the law. As a result, you have zero rights when you get caught.
No sympathy from me.
Point is that the statement is only going to work in so far as the law is just.
Also, knowing in advance that the breaking of an unjust law brings with it the death penalty, doesn't entail that the person so breaking it deserves to die. Stupid perhaps, but deserving to die I don't think so. There would be no population pressure anywhere in the world if stupidity had that consequence.
Drunk drivers cause far more deaths, but there's no clamor to have those law breakers put to death. Perhaps we should?
Nothing to do with stupidity. They are not being executed because they are stupid. The signs at Bali airport are clear. The penalty for drug smuggling is death. I don't think these two were stupid, they simply thought they'd take the risk and if they succeeded make a lot of easy money. And bear in mind that they had a simultaneous group of their accomplices/mules arrested in Hong Kong so it was not even a one-off.

They could always try the US approach and bomb the hell out of them, seems to have worked really well in Iraq.libya etc.
It worked really well? You read the news from time to time?
I think the OP was being facetious.

He may be a big dealer, but this is no kingpin.

A lot more diplomatic than recent comments by a US diplomat.
They could have gone into the true cause of the Libyan crisis which has turned it from one of the richest countries in Africa into the mess it is today.
And we have the good ole USA to thank for Libya's demise just like all the other countries they have forked up in the last 40 years.

Perhaps the West should arm the good ones.
I suppose you mean those good ones that will use those same weapons against us tomorrow. Get real.

So I can't take a Macca's burger wrapped in paper but I can take a bag of crisps. What's the difference? Can I take pork balls in a plastic bag? Confusion and stupidity are rampant.

When it comes to failed foreign policies, I would say that the past few Republican administrations have excelled at it.
Obama was elected on a platform that included getting us out of some of the overseas messes. He has been doing that.
Is the world a safer place, probably not, but, hey, if you want to save money, you need to start somewhere and overseas misadventures is one place.
Since everyone seems afraid of ISIS, let's see a few of those stand up and lead the charge, or at least start paying for it.
And after increasing the national debt by trillions of dollars where has he "saved money"?

Could they take a leaf out of so many studies conducted in US? Or, more money for research grant to reproduce that has already been found?
Don't be silly. Thais are too smart to need help from the outside world.

Upscale are non existent I suppose this means with more money to spend.

Obama's lawless action must be stopped, before it is too late. Too many Americans need jobs to be giving what to amounts to amnesty for 5 million illegals.
Though I disagree with the amnesty act, I think your logic is flawed. Most of the illegals are doing work that Americans wont do because it is below them and does not pay enough.

I do have to give credits for this to Thailand and Thai people.
Thais have the skill to get a job done for real low price..Even if you compare it with other Asian countries often Thailand has the lowest price.
Hair cuts,dinners,massages,hotels...
Maybe somehow thais are less profit minded then farangs,as in farang countries all is heavily overpriced..
Thais have a skill to stay and maintain low on their selling prices ,
Thais deserve credit for this...
You have not been here long have you? Thais are greedy little buggers who will charge you double or triple the going rate as a farang. Have one build something for you and you will see the quality of work is at best dodgy.

Cheap is the correct word.
Not to be confused with " inexpensive".
Example: A "cheap" pair of shoes in Thailand might last two months before falling apart.
A good pair of shoes in USA will last me two years or more!
Low priced items are not inexpensive when they need to be replaced so often, or don't even work at all when you get them home.
You get what you pay for.
Poor quality cost less, yes!
An old farmer once said, " Buying oats is much cheaper if they have been through the horse once already!"
P.S. I am curious as to where you are from that you paid for utilities quarterly?
In America, I always paid monthly.
Australia is quarterly

Lets face it. Some things are so cheap in the LOS. Some examples...
1. Thai post office.... To send huge boxes anywhere in Thailand by tracking is really cheap. I posted a huge box with a heavy pram in it and it only cost thb140. It would have been around $40 back home
2. Water bills.... We have a 3 br home with 2 bathrooms. My water bill each month is 400 baht. Back home water is really expensive. I have a friend back home who said that he was paying $100 a month minimum on a 3 b/r house with same size family as me.
3. Electricity... My monthly electricity bills are extremely cheap at the moment thb 500 to 700 a month. We are not using the air con yet. Obviously it will be up in april but no where near the prices back home. My sister back home said that she had a bill of $600 a quarter during winter. Another friend in a medium size home says he walks around turning lights off etc in his house everyday to reduce the bills. His quarterly electricity bill was $900 but he has 4 kids.
Do you have any other examples
cheers
1. The post office doesn't steal things out of my mail in my home country.
2. I wouldn't drink that dodgy water at any price.
3. In my home country my electrical can't kill me. It's grounded (earthed.)
Next.
Wait till he cranks the air con.
Costs me about 2 k a month in hit season to run the air con. Still not bad imo. It's just to hot not to have it going and I live in the hottest continent in the world the rest of the year.
Electricity costs me around 2000 per month in Chiang Rai with no aircon. When summer hits that will go back to 4500 per month.

Two commissioners summoned over gambling den raids by Thai soldiers

I agree. The only problem is that it is illegal and anything illegal breeds corruption. That said however, I feel for the families of gamblers who go without basic necessities while mum and dad lose the family money.
