  1. There's a small restaurant on ratsada road (the road paralel to the bypass which you can access by the small light going to ptown from tesco) which opened 2weeks ago from a thai chef that used to work in other countries. its 24hrs and the menu is huge. The prices are the same as cheap thai restaurants except the food is actually edible and closer to what you get for 5-10x the price. It'S right in front of the small supercheap.

  2. i'm an old neverbeen and i'm very interested. i play drums and guitar (not a les paul copy by the way, sorry i don't fit the profile exactly)

    i'm in rawai, where are you (OP i mean)

    Oh that's great. I'm going to be in Phuket Town. What bands do you like?

    will you have a place to play?

    i'm into hard rock/metal, like ozzy, metallica, acdc and prog rock, namely rush and dream theater but the latter two are far too technical for a garage band.

    happy to play anything so long as its not got the name of a US state in the song title

    personally i'm not interested in jamming that much. i prefer to learn songs.

    I don't have a place to play yet. But yeah ACDC, Metallica, etc I do enjoy all that stuff.

    We could learn some songs together when I'm there. I'll contact you :)

  3. Thank you all. I have learnt basic Thai (and I've been told that I know enough to survive). I will be practicing more when I'm there since I have Thai friends and colleagues as well and I try to speak Thai as much as possible.

    Where's a good place to buy affordable furniture? SuperCheap Warehouse as well?

    Based on the week I was there before, I do know that rent, food & hanging out there is surely much cheaper than Singapore.

  4. Cost of living Monthly

    Many thanks.

    Your elec and water bill seem v high for a 12,000 bht rented home.

    20 fags a day as well....

    His budget looks good, expect for the fags of course tongue.png

  5. Big 3 bedroom house in Phuket Town on 1/2 rai of wooded land = 10,000 Baht per month

    Electricity = 3,000 Baht

    Phone + internet = 2,500 - 3,000 Baht

    Food = 8,000 - 10,000 Baht

    Gasoline = varies greatly

    I barely drink, but I do get a few bottles of wine every month = probably 2,000 Baht

    I work and have a work permit, so I get social security medical care at the Mission FOC.

    I don't chase women (huge savings I'm sure) tongue.png

    I never added this up before, but I live a really good life, eat out all the time (almost exclusively Thai food) and travel quite a bit. My street has at least a dozen wonderful restaurants that I walk to. I usually eat out for lunch every day. It's usually 50 - 60 Baht including a drink.

    What street do you live on and which area?

  7. Best advise - rent for a month and use the time to find long-term residence. Car taxis are expensive. Motorbike taxis better but... Buying a used motorbike is the best low-cost option for transport - IF you are comfortable riding and understand Thai driving culture.

    Thank you. I have concerns with motorbikes. Would a simple car be cheap enough to get? How much would it cost around?

  8. Why yes! I'm sure you'll find no problem attracting old neverbeens just itching to grab their moth eaten Les Paul copies and get some chum able to hit a stretched cowhide with a stick or two, together with someone playing along with themselves, alone, on an all singing all dancing 'keyboard', whose collection in music stopped around 1980 and deems everything else 'rubbish'.

    Good luck with that blink.png .

    No worries, just trying. If it doesn't work out it's alright too. What kind of music do you like?

  9. I wondered if there are people in Phuket who would like to form a band and play/write music together. I'm into everything (modern) from indie/alternative to hardcore/punk/metal.

    I don't know if people from Phuket check this sub-forum as much. But I thought I'd post this here first.
