  1. A friend of mine fell for the usual trick where the paint came off and scratches showed up when he brought it back. He was asked to pay US $5000. After 2 hours of trying to argue, a policeman arrived at the scene. After another hour of arguing, the jet-ski owner pointed a gun to my friend's head. The police stood by, and told my friend he should pay the guy. He withdrew the US $3000 left in his atm and gave it to the guy.

was it 5,000 or 3,000????.He must have a good card to withdraw 3,000 dollars in one hit

He handed over 3,000. Perhaps because that's the withdrawal limit on a Citibank card.

There is no mention of they type of ATM card used...so how do you know he used a Citibank card, further that is not the limit on a Citibank card, I have have Citibank card and my limit is US$ 5k/d and another minor technical point, there are no citibank ATMS in Pattaya as far as I am aware, so even having a higher limit is irrelevant in this case

You boys really just make it up as you go along dont you

No one is making anything up, what's the use of that anyway?

I think you don't need a Citibank atm to withdraw from a Citibank card. I withdraw straight from any atm in Thailand using my foreign atm card (since my card includes VISA and Mastercard as part of it's services).

And if he didn't use Citibank, perhaps he withdrew a few times using another foreign atm card similar to mine.

    That's terrible

    That's not terrible, it's BS

What ATM will deliver 90,000 Thai Baht at one time, and what US Bank will authorize a $3,000 USD daily dollar limit crazy.gif

Maybe it's a Citibank card as the poster before me has mentioned.

  5. I'd rather have a glass of water, but then im not retarded.

id be happy to see them fight it out and go bankrupt in the process.

if the drinkers couldnt get piss arsed drunk for a while they might snap out of their self inflicted stupor.

but much more likely is that theyd drink piss and brake fluid or sniff glue, just to get off their faces.

Heineken - be a wino like you mean it!

same goes for the tobacco merchants, id love to force feed their kids the same shit we have to put up with

(im lying, it would torture me on the inside)

I see what you mean. I rarely drink anyway.

  6. Why anyone would want to live in Phuket is beyond me. I was there last winter, traffic jams almost as bad as Bangkok, overcrowding, pollution, unbearable heat even in February; rough, unswimmable ocean most of the year; overpriced, poor quality food; pretty much overpriced everything... Can anyone tell me, what attracts people to Phuket?

Perhaps you are actually referring to the Patong area where most of the tourists are. I live in Phuket Town on the other side of the island and it's calm traffic, cheap and good food, and most probably because most of the people living in Phuket Town are Thais.

I know prices and almost everything else are way different in Patong. I never wanted to live there either. But Phuket Town to me is like most other parts of Thailand.

  7. Hi everyone I'm now residing in Phuket Town (also thanks to all your previous help and advice). I have a motorbike that needs repairs/servicing done urgently and I'm wondering if there is any place I can go to or call tonight (Aug 7).

I live near the Phuket Rajabhat University. I'm wondering if I can do it tonight because I'll need it tomorrow morning.

  8. On a side note, almost exactly the same thing happened to me in my first marriage with a Thai woman:

We met in BKK, after some back-and-forth traveling she came to Sweden and stayed for a year. We got married. She returned, I came to visit. We stayed in a BKK hotel and she told me she had a Thai bf - and she had been having him on the side all the time. For a brief moment, my entire world collapsed.

After a couple of silent minutes I told her I wanted to see him. I insisted she'd call him and ask him to come to the hotel right away. She reluctantly did so. He arrived the next morning. He was a 19-year old student - almost exactly as in the story here.. ..only that I was 39, not 18.

He was shy as he entered the room. Me and my wife were sitting on the bed. She was quite nervous, too. I was completely calm.

I said to him: "So, I hear you like my wife? Please, take her and leave. I don't want to see her again."

She panicked, kicked him out and begged me to change my mind - as she knew her money supply had just been cut off. She got her last 20.000 thb as she signed the divorce papers the next day. I haven't seen her since.

You live, you learn. I completely agree that this guy should have thought twice about <deleted> he was getting himself into.

    Peace wai.gif

Great actions made by you. Lots of respect.

I'm interested in microwave and I've messaged you about it.

  10. then <deleted> are you asking us about what thais think of singaporeans for then, you speak thai, go ask then yourself.

Haha! You should relax, maybe drink a glass of water.

Anyway as I mentioned I've had no problems so far in dealing with Thais who speak English, so I wanted to know if there is something that others here know that I don't.Also, I've only recently learnt to speak Thai. But yes, I'll ask them myself too.

i think one thing they really dont like about singaporeans is starting topics as useless as asking farangs what we think Thais think of singaporeans.... wink.png

Or maybe take more walks out in the sun? I hear that helps too wink.png

  12. That would depend on whether you are Malay, Chinese, or Indian in extraction.

My comment on Singaporeans was meant to refer to Chinese Singaporeans only.

I see. I'm a Singaporean of Indian descent.

Then to Thais you are an Indian, nothing more / nothing less.

Hmm. But going there every 3 months over the past couple of years, I've never experienced any stereotypical behavior towards me.

Especially not in the English-speaking Thai circles but maybe that's a different kind of community.

Recently I've learnt to speak Thai as well, so I've been speaking more often to Thais who don't speak English. And similarly I haven't had any negative experiences based on me being "Indian".

  13. What is their opinion of people from Singapore?

Just say you are from KL...

Why is saying I'm from KL better?

If you're that thick-skinned, they'll know you're from Singapore anyway

    SC

Haha! I've spent a lot of time in Malaysia to know the difference between the kinds of people in both countries. But I wanted to know how and why Thais see the two groups differently.

  14. Tesco lotus is way better than Big C. I saw one last night.

To be fair it could have been a clearance price but boxed and warranted so no problem.

I find that Tesco do better deals than Big C. They also offer 7 days no quibble return on electronic items. Try that at Big C biggrin.png

    sent from my Wellcom A90+

Yes it might have been clearance. A friend just told me the 42" TVs are about 20 grand at Tesco too.
