  1. Thailand, third in the world, for hand gun murders! and remember these are children with attitude.

Where might we find these statistics?

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

This is murders with firearms, not just handguns. More than twice as many total, with 1/4 population of USA (a favorite of bashers, regardless of facts) = about 8 times the rate per capita. http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_mur_wit_fir-crime-murders-with-firearms

  2. "The penalty for breaking the new law is a fine of up to 10,000 baht, five years in prison or both." Oh really? Will it be applied to the gang of four they nabbed here in Pattaya that likes to target tourists? Seems a perfect test of if they walk their talk. I am not holding my breath. Gang member could say "I need to carry my gun because farang bigger than me and might beat me up when I rob him."

  3. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the Thai police had some sort of "boot camp" experience for these angels? And could have work experience cleaning the streets and beaches of all the garbage left by others in this fine town. They need some "tough love", not just jail time. My career in US was teaching black high school gangsters. Different culture for sure, but they need someone to teach them what it is to be a man.

  4. "Pattaya is widely regarded as one of Asia's favourite seaside resorts, increasingly being referred to as the "Thai Riviera". Catering to tourists from all cultures and walks of life, Pattaya provides a safe, relaxing, fun–filled stay with tropical beaches, world-class hotels, a wide variety of local and international restaurants, as well as shopping centres and markets featuring local OTOP handicrafts to global luxury labels. International standard golf courses, top medical facilities and an established marine infrastructure make Pattaya a leading holiday destination of choice for both Thai and International visitors."

I'll have whatever they are smoking.... I live in Jomtien. Every day some of those treasures wash up on the shore, to join the "offerings" left by others. I have never gone swimming in the water. I think that is not allowed by my health insurance, with good reason. And there is the removal of free benches and crime of hacking so many shade trees a month or so ago along beach road. "Crime suppression" I was told by straight faced BIB. I'll leave all the scam bashings to others.

  5. " I can tell you that about half the US population is living off government (read taxpayer funded) "entitlements"..." Yes you can tell that, but doesn't make it factual. Me thinks you watch Fox too much.

I wonder about "mandatory shopping"... how do they do that? Is it like if I go to a gogo bar and Thai guy puts a gun to my head and says "Take my girlfriend for the night! If you don't I will have to get a job and work!". TAT seems to have some weird bending of belief that is they create a vacuum of average Chinese tourists, that somehow high rollers will be sucked in to fill that space.

Agree totally that we who live here or come on our own are much more beneficial to local businesses than high rollers or group tours. High rollers stay at insular resorts, and if leave just pop down to Vutton shop or where ever..... little to no benefit to average Thai, but then again these geniuses don't kiss the average Thais backside either.

  6. My guess is that he was so plowed he thought he was fighting a real person. He didn't harm any person, but it was not for want of trying (attempt to steal vehicle).

Maybe he was trying to give instruction in true Buddhism? The Buddha said everything is "impermanent, unsatisfactory and not self". That includes statues of Abbots. The Buddha said not to worship him, or get attached to objects, thoughts, etc. Seems the statue would fit in there somewhere.
