  1. When Marty told me in November that he was finally losing his battle with cancer his main wishes were that he hoped that he could live long enough to see his son`s passing out parade in March and to spend some time with his grandchildren before he passed away.

I was truly amazed at how brave he was in handling his situation.

Marty was a person who lived life to the full and he had a unique ability of being able to make friendships.

His trustworthy and caring personality and generocity coupled with his enthusiasm to listen and help others made him a very special person.

His ability, intelligence and dedication whilst working in marketing and as an administrator of thaivisa helped put the forum where it is to-day.

It was a pleasure to have known Marty and a priviledge to have worked with him.

    R.I.P. dear friend.

  2. I am very happy to report that Pat is alive and well; I saw her on Monday. Chard spends a lot of time on business in Bangkok. As for the quality of the pies:Lemel I think you are being very unfair. The quality of Pat's produce is excellent and I know that she is a stickler for hygiene.

    I agree.

I`ve had many a pie and great fish and chips at Pats over the years and it has always been first class and served with good humour. Both premises previously soi 3 off second road and the current third road premises have always been very clean. Pat is a great lady and always has time for a chat. :o

  3. Explosive Device discovered in front of Shop. Message addressed to PAD also found.

On Sunday Night, Police Colonel Somnook, the Chief of Banglamung Police was one of many officers to respond to a call from residents living in Soi Kow Noi 5 who had discovered, what appeared to be, an explosive device accompanied by a threatening letter. The device was eventually made safe by a Royal Thai Navy Bomb Disposal Unit. It was confirmed that the device was real and had the capacity to cause injury to those within a 50 meter radius of it. The note, written in Thai Language, was addressed to the Peoples Alliance for Democracy (PAD) and claimed that the Thai People are watching them closely and will take action if their protests continue. The device was discovered in front of a shop owned by Khun Wandee aged 39 who claimed to have no ties to either the PAD or pro-government supporters. Police suspect the device was placed at the location because there were many PAD supporters living in the surrounding area. The Police Chief confirmed that security would be stepped up and Police are on high alert to ensure that no escalation of Political Demonstrations takes place in the Pattaya area.

  4. Thai Passport Application Mobile Unit coming to Pattaya.

We have just received a press release from Pattaya City Hall which will be of great interest to Thai Nationals who wish to apply for a passport. Normally the closest Passport Application Center for Thai’s residing in Pattaya was the Central Plaza in Bang Na, on the outskirts of Bangkok. We are pleased to announce that between the 2nd and 7th December there will be a Passport Application Mobile Unit located in front of the Nusa Playa and Spa Hotel in Soi 13 off Pattaya Second Road. The Mobile unit will be open between 8.30am and 4pm and will process passport applications. The new passports will then be sent by recorded post to the applicants. The mobile unit is expected to be extremely busy and applicants are urged to arrive as early as possible. This is the first time the Unit has come to Pattaya and it is hoped that it will come back on a regular basis.

  5. Tourists stranded in Pattaya wonder when the Bangkok protests will end.

Because of the Airport closures in Bangkok, thousands of foreign tourists are stranded here in Thailand. Many have come to Pattaya to wait for news regarding their flights. Many are angry, some have resigned themselves to the fact they are stuck here and are making the most of their extended holidays. It is clear that whenever the PAD protests at the airports come to an end, there will not be an immediate re-opening as security at both airports have been breached and damage has been caused. There were reports of some International Journalists walking onto the tarmac and up to parked planes with no signs of any security in place. Everyone is now wondering what the next move will be as the Army appear not to support the idea of using force to disperse the protesters and the Police have also claimed they will not use force. Some tourists are running out of money and others now have expired visas. Tourists with expired visas should make their way to the Immigration Office located in Soi 5 off Jomtien Beach Road where we understand that if evidence is produced to confirm they have been forced to remain here because of the problems, free visa extensions will be given. Many are hoping that the nearby Utapao Military Airport in Sattahip will be used for international flights, however due to the size of the airport it is unlikely that regular international flights will be possible. If you require urgent repatriation you must contact your Embassy who will listen to your case and make a judgment if an urgent evacuation from Thailand is required. Other options such as travelling to Cambodia or Laos by road are also being considered by some Tourists at this time.

  7. Swiss Tourist slightly hurt in Jomtien Beach Road bag snatch.

Crimes against tourists are of top priority for local Police Divisions at this time with the on-set of high season. Just after 11pm on Friday Night, a group of Swiss Tourists were taking a late night stroll along Jomtien Beach. In a matter of seconds, they had become victims of a common crime and had also sustained minor injuries. As they took their walk along the promenade, two Thai’s on a motorbike pulled up beside the female victim named as Mrs. Susarh Elbia aged 62. A female passenger on the bike dismounted and approached the tourist and grabbed her handbag which contained Thai currency and personal documents. She fell to the floor during the fracas and she screamed for help. Police were on-scene in a matter of seconds and located and arrested the two suspects who crashed their motorbike further along Jomtien Beach. Khun Boonjong aged 30 and his wife, Khun Anon aged 42 were arrested and later confessed to the theft. The female suspect explained that the pair worked as construction workers and were short of money. They needed to send money to their family home to support their 3 year old child. 9. Entertainment Venues and Tourists prepare for 3 days of closures and limited service.

During this time, Pattaya along with the rest of Thailand are in a period of mourning. Although Pattaya is dominated by it’s entertainment industry, local venues are complying with regulations put into place to cover a 3 day period from 14th until 16th of November when Cremation Rituals and the Cremation Ceremony for Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Wattana takes place. Entertainment venues recently received a letter from the Chief of Banglamung District, Khun Mongkol which stated that venues may open on 14th and 16th November, however entertainment within the venue must either be stopped or reduced to a minimum. Individual bar owners will interpret these regulations in their own way. The letter states that all venues offering entertainment must close on 15th November which is the day when the Cremation takes place. We toured South Pattaya on Friday Afternoon and found all bars were complying with the regulations. Many bars were open but no music was heard. Alcohol was being served and many tourists appeared oblivious to the temporary changes.

  11. Pattaya celebrates the Loy Krathong Festival.

The Loy Krathong festival is over for another year. We now report on the days activities and attended the official event held at the Bali Hai Port and went down to both Pattaya and Jomtien Beaches. We checked out Walking Street in South Pattaya which was extremely busy until the early hours of the morning. At the Bali Hai Port, Khun Itipon, The Mayor Pattaya was guest of honor at this Loy Krathong Festival Event which included Thai Traditional Dancing and a parade of Loy Krathong costumes. This was followed by a fireworks display. Walking Street was lined with spectacular Krathongs allowing for photo opportunities for the thousands of tourists who converged on the street. We spotted many who dressed up for the occasion armed with their Krathongs which were later released on Pattaya Beach. Jomtien beach was also full of people launching their Krathong’s in to the sea. Fireworks and fire lanterns were seen along the entire stretch of the Beach. We returned to Pattaya Beach the next morning to see for ourselves the aftermath of the Loy Krathong Festival and the water and beach was littered with used fireworks and Krathongs. We understand that City Hall dispatched a fleet of street cleaners to the Beach on Monday afternoon to begin the massive clear-up operation.
