  1. Chaos following Police chase in South Pattaya.

A bizarre incident now from the South Pattaya Road which involved a car driven by a Thai Woman who refused to stop when ordered to do so by Police. The story begins at the Traffic Lights in front of Pattaya School Number 8 just after Midday on Thursday. A Silver Toyota Vios driven by Khun Orasar from Bangkok, who was accompanied by her 6 year old daughter, attempted to drive the wrong way down a one-way road leading to Pattaya Beach. A Traffic Police Officer stationed nearby spotted the car and ordered the driver to pull over. She refused to do so, and attempted to drive away. A Pattaya City Hall Truck also attempted to block her escape and was hit by the Toyota Vios which drove away in the direction of the Sukumvit Road. Eventually other Police vehicles, that were notified of the incident managed to box the car in. However a 1 hour standoff took place and Khun Orasar locked herself and her daughter inside the car and refused to come out. She was seen taking off her jewelry and placing it down her trousers. Police were unsure why she refused to stop and to ensure that no illegal items were inside the car, it was decided to force entry into the vehicle by breaking the front windscreen. Before the glass could be removed, Khun Orasar opened the door but wondered why the Police were making such a problem for her as she claimed she had done nothing wrong. Eventually the woman was persuaded to accompany Police to the Station and as we recorded this item, the case is continuing to be dealt with at Pattaya Police Station.

  2. Pattaya experiences flash floods following 6 hours of sustained rainfall.

Six hours of sustained heavy rainfall here in Pattaya on Wednesday Night exposed a long-term problem with blocked drains causing severe flooding. Chaos ensued in many areas around the city and in some areas the flood waters measured more than 1 meter in depth. Pattaya Second Road, Pattaya Third Road and Soi Beokeow were some of the worst hit areas. Fire Rescue Units fitted with powerful water pumps and city hall officers were dispatched to key areas around the city, but they were unable to prevent the floods which are known to have claimed the life of an English Tourist who was electrocuted in South Pattaya. Despite regular drainage work undertaken around Pattaya, the drains become quickly blocked again due to large amounts of refuse produced by the City which is not disposed of in the correct manor. An emergency plan has now been put into force to unblock drains in the worst effected areas as more heavy rain is forecast over the coming days.

  3. English Tourist electrocuted as he walks back to his Hotel in South Pattaya.

In the early hours of Thursday Morning, Police Major Pumipat from Pattaya Police Station was called to the Pattaya Memorial Hospital to investigate the death of a foreign tourist who was thought to have been electrocuted. The deceased, Mr. Scott Mitchinson aged 30 from England was accompanied to the Hospital by his girlfriend; Khun Wanidar aged 32, who works at a bar in Walking Street. She was able to explain the chain of event leading to Mr. Mitchinson’s death which appears to be a tragic accident. She explained to Police that the pair were preparing to leave the Bar and return to his Hotel, even though heavy rainstorms on Wednesday Night had flooded many streets. The pair approached the corner of Soi 17 off the Pratamnuk Road near Pattaya School Number 8 when Mr. Mitchinson suddenly collapsed and began to convulse. If fact he had come into contact with exposed power cables, concealed by the flood waters. Passers-by realized the situation and were reluctant to approach the victim because of the potential of electrocuting themselves. Eventually a plan was formulated to rescue the victim, however he had already passed-away according to Doctors who attempted CPR at the Emergency Room which was unsuccessful. The British Embassy in Bangkok are aware of the case and it is thought that the Tourist Emergency Relief Fund will be called upon to offer some compensation for this tragic death.

  5. PATTAYA THIEVES ROB A BRIT HOUSE BY INCAPACITATING THE GUARD DOGS

On June 15, 2008, at 1.30 am, Pol.Maj.Col. Withaya Yuenyoeng, Pattaya, received a phone call that a house, located at 62/134, Moo Baan Ekmongkol, Soi 17, had been robbed. Police investigators accordingly went to investigate.

Arriving at the bungalow, police met Mr. Peter Leslie Slade (64), a British engineer and his Thai wife, who were waiting for police assistance. The owners of the house led the police to examine the traces of the thieves who had broken into the house and stolen property from the bedroom. The drawers in the closet and of the desk where they had kept property had been ransacked. The missing property amounted to a gold necklace, a gold ring, a big diamond set, a silver set, (weight 240 gms approx.), 2 mobile phones, a notebook computer and a wrist watch. Most of stolen items had been bought abroad. The total property missing amounted to about Bt 1 million.

The house owners said that they just bought the house. On the day the theft occurred, they had gone out for dinner and to shop at around 9 pm, locking the house as usual. They did not expect that the house would be robbed as they have 2 guard dogs; one of which was outside and another was inside the house. When they came back home, they found signs of disturbance. The dog that was outside had been injured. On opening the door, they found their bedroom completely ransacked and the door had been left opened. All of their property had been stolen and the dog that had been inside the house was locked up in the toilet. They found traces of entry, indicating the thieves had come in through the sliding window of the bedroom which was still open.

The house owners said luckily the thieves did not steal their pickup truck. They immediately notified the police to come to investigate. Police presumed that there would have been more than two thieves and they must have known the movements of the owners very well, such as what time they normally went in or out. After robbing the house and climbing over the fence, the thieves apparently went into the woods behind so that the housing security wouldn't see them. However, police collected fingerprints for evidence and will continue their investigations to arrest the thieves as soon as possible.

  7. Danish victim of another break-in here in Pattaya.

House and condo break-ins are on the increase here in Pattaya. It is thought that due to sharp increases in the cost of living here in Thailand, many are turning to a life of crime to supplement their incomes. This break-in, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday Morning, comes from an apartment in Soi Yensabai in South Pattaya. The complex, which is owned by a Police Officer, luckily is fitted with CCTV cameras allowing the victim of the break-in; Mr. Nicolas Noregaard aged 31 from Denmark, who resides on the fourth floor, along with Police to examine footage around the time of the suspected break-in. Two men of Eastern European origin, carrying bags apparently owned by the victim, checked into the hotel in the early hours of Wednesday Morning and staff identified one of the men as Mr. Antonio Ivanova from Slovenia. A copy of his passport, used during check-in was kept by reception staff and is now in the hands of Police, who suspect that the men committed the robbery and then checked-in to the Hotel. Two laptop computers, a Nokia N95 Mobile Phone and 10,000 Baht in cash were stolen by the two suspects and for now the two men have disappeared. Police, who think they are still in Pattaya, are now searching for them.

  8. Anyone else noticed that the forum is now all ads, and it's very hard to find any useful text?

Look at this, only 2 lines of text (red ellipse), the rest is all ads.

I would have thought it was the "add reply" button that you have found difficulty in finding (20 posts in three+ years).

As has been said the advertisements provide revenue which enable this site to operate and provides almost 60,000 members with the best information and recreational topics that you could find in Asia.

  9. Yes the title is correct. There will probably be a news item in the next day or so.

Kurgen was involved in a dispute over a dog fight involving his dog in the village he lives in and was stabbed. He is intensive care at Bangkok Pattaya. He will survive but is not very well at the moment.

I will try to get some more information tonight.

God I hope this some bad information. :o

That`s terrible news...Please pass on my best wishes for a full and speedy recovery and I hope that he is soon back to his cheerful self. :D

  10. English man drugged and left on the side of the road.

In the early hours of Monday Morning we joined local Police and Sawang Boriboon Rescue Workers at Soi Yumet, Central Pattaya following reports of a foreigner who had collapsed at the side of the road. Mr. Edward Davies aged 59 from England was unconscious. Initially Police thought he was drunk, however there was no smell of alcohol on his breath. Mr. Davies was rushed to hospital and Doctors tell us that they suspect he was drugged and left in the area. Mr. Edwards was carrying his passport and flight ticket and only 10 Baht in Thai currency leading Police to suspect he was drugged and then robbed of cash and other valuables. Mr. Edwards will be questioned later on Monday when he recovers from the effect of the drugs.

  11. Monsoon Valley is available in a number of decent restaurants including Cafe New Orleans and most of the supermarkets.

I have tried the White Shiraz which is reasonable but the red Pokdum I found was rough and acidic. It probably is more acceptable after a large aperitif :o

ok what was you charged for a bottle ??

As far as I recall in the restaurant the red was 795 baht and the 2003 shiraz reserve was about 1200 baht :D

  12. I think you might like Cabbages and Condoms in Jomtien. They have a beautiful natural setting, with a sub-tropical rainforest. There are peacocks and little rabbits running around. The beach is the most beautiful in the area and the restaurant is amazing...great food. The hotel is owned by Khun Meechai, who was a member of parliamment and had a big campaign for the use of condoms in Thailand. To sum it up, the setting is beautiful, food is great and the service fantastic.....You will not regret it. Funny how small the world is, I have eaten in some of the restaurants you worked in, probably at the same time as well....Hotel Metropole!

I just saw Khan Davies suggested it as well....I second his suggestion!

i think you're getting C&C confused with "Sugar Hut" - C&C overlooks the sea, Sugar Hut has rabbits running about and rather poor food. The Wooden Restaurant is nice though....as a building.

i haven't eaten at Brunos for years now...but when I did I got the impression it was a very flashy place that catered for people who appreciated table cloths but had no taste-buds.

Yes the tables cloths are very nice and the service excellent.... the food is also superb with a varied quality menu. Taste buds are soon found again :o You should try it. :D
