  1. Someone, who has been here just once, obviously on holidays, is by far not qualified to give proper advice whether Koh Samui is a good place for living or not. Moreover most people do not move here for the beach, but for the beach and the whole package of a convenient island life. If it would be beach only, I would be somewhere in the South Pacific

The North is nice too, of course, but 2 main reasons against it: can't handle the smoke for months and no beach. Actually if someone can choose, I can't understand why someone does not live next to the tropical sea. It's the by far the natural ultimate in Thailand with perfect air nonstop and fresh seafood and and and

I wanted to go back but the end of year football teams getting blind drunk and fighting on the streets turned me off. Along with their rented motorbike skills.

Perhaps next time stay out of these areas, like going to Sydney & staying in the middle of King's Crosslaugh.png ( Notorious night district to the uninitiated ) . There is a lot more to the island then night life, lots of hidden gems.

It is NOT that bad, you can have a good time there provided you keep cool and control ur self!!

  2. I don't know what you think might have changed but if you read the link you provided it suggests that not much has changed! You can't buy a car without having longer term residency than just 30 days (which is specifically excluded) and 90 day reporting usually requires a one year visa.

Well it does say 'new' & I always thought one could only buy a car & register it own name on Non o or B visa, Am I wrong?

You can buy on a Tourist Visa.

With Just 30day Tourist Visa, can I buy a NEW toyota hilux?

No. You don't have a visa you have a 30 days exemption. Long time ago you could only buy if you were resident (retired, married, working) then they changed it to include those on any type of visa including tourist. But excluding those on 30 day exemptions.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

ok, then if I get 60day tourist visa that should be ok?

  4. Was looking to buy a new toyota hilux, which is just 520k, so need a 90 day visa to get thai DL?

You can get an one year temporary licence.

For the five year one, you'll need a non immigrant visa.

I changed my one year for a five year on a 30 day visa, but I did have a "proof of residence letter" from immigration.

Hotel address is enough to get "proof of residence letter" from immigration with 30day stamp?

  5. Do you have a work permit?

Without it I doubt you'll get financing.

The road tax sticker you'll get the same time as you pay your insurance.

As long as you don't stay longer than 90 days in Thailand and have an IDP (International driving permit) you don't need a Thai DL.

It's easy to make a Thai DL and will cost you about 200 baht to convert your present DL to a Thai one.

Can this done with 30day stay tamp?

  6. There is a dealer on Samui, which of what I understand is an offshoot of the Surat dealership. For more precise answers Re pricing & tech questions, moving to motoring & leaving link in Samui forum.

As per the web site the dealership is ONLY in Surat, anybody has contact info of Samui dealer?

Prices are pretty much standard all over Thailand. The only thing is how many extras can you negotiate.

Would like to know from where (which dealer) can get maximum extras for cash purchase?

  8. If you negotiate well and get insurance and registration, it'll cost you 538K Baht on the road, otherwise budget around 20K Baht extra for these.

Very unlikely you'll get a sales rep that will come out and offer you these into the deal at this price point - you'll need to push for them and/or lie and say some other dealer has already offered them wink.png
