New ATM charges?
Greenwich Boy replied to songmaew's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Got a new Revolut card in the post last week. Withdrew 5,000B. Got charged 5,220 as expected. Revolut charged 1% or £1.20 as they regard THB as a 'rare currency' The actual conversion rate was 44.6 so reasonable. No other charges. Will add that I was making sure the card worked before leaving Thailand and access to my Bangkok Bank account. Not a big fan of this 220B malarkey. -
Return flight or one way is ok?
Greenwich Boy replied to HKexpat's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
If you arrive visa exempt you should be asked for proof on onward travel at check in. This often does not happen but why risk the stress. As recommended above a cheap flight from anywhere in Thailand to anywhere outside Thailand will do. Alternatively look up onwardtravel for 'rent a ticket' Peace of mind in my book for $12 or so -
I tried to show my Thai booster cert (to get in to a flower festival in Chiang Rai of all things) It was not accepted but I found the printed pdf of my 2 Pfizers from the UK which was fine. Apart from that in the last 6 months have been to Nan, Phayao, Pai, MHS by car and Bangkok by train. Stayed in hotels in all these places and been asked for nothing other than a passport and that only occasionally.

Only good experiences with Scoot. As long as you realise that as a budget airline any 'extras' need to be paid for. Used them many times since they took over the CNX to SIN route from Silk. Would certainly give them a go longer haul and heading to Oz it is a good excuse to have a couple of nights in Singapore.

Apply for Covid visa far ahead of expiry?
Greenwich Boy replied to Hal65's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Jack, The OP has stated here and on another thread that he was on a volunteer visa. Would he still get another covid ext? Dont want to muddy the waters as not sure of the status of volunteer visas. Thanks -
Passport pickup for Covid extension

If you are on Covid extensions and entered on a tourist visa or visa exempt just go and apply for another one before expiry of your current extension -
Thai Insurance for STV
Greenwich Boy replied to bbOh's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I got my insurance with AXA Thailand. Spoke to the agent direct, told him I was applying for a STV and I got a policy schedule stating the cover that met embassy requirements. Not a recommendation as such but it got what was needed. PM me if you would like his contact details -
MOPH Confirms No Legal Obligations For People To Wear Face Masks
Greenwich Boy replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Yep. I did my O levels in the mid 80's. Definitely did English Language and English Literature. -
Quick report. Got my first covid extension on a STV. I used an agent because I hate the bureaucracy and inconsitency at immigration (just a personal view) In CM you can not get around the 60 days from application rule but I did avoid the under consideration stamp and a second visit. Only forms required were the tm7 and 'covid form' along with the usual copies. No onward flight, financials, embassy letter or any of that nonsense. To clarify, I got this yesterday so last day under the 'old rules'

If the covid extensions are not continued I will just move on, no drama. Looking at a 6 month indonesian visa if I qualify. It is expensive and 7 days quarantine but no biggie. Hopefully by then the Communist party of Australia will let people with family there in not just Chinese students with rich parents

I have an STV. In the event of covid extensions not being continued I have an appointment booked for the 25th. If they are continued I will cancel the appointment and go closer to my expiry date. To facilitate this I am using an agent (I hate immigration anyway) At no point has there been any mention of covid extensions not being available to STV holders

STV visa extension
Greenwich Boy replied to Frenchbaby's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
The unhelpful answer is it depends on where you are extending. I did mine in Chiang Mai. Was not asked for insurance first time, second time I was. You will need the usual copies so passport photo page, visa page, page with entry stamp, application form, TM30 and 1,900B. Don't leave it till the last day just in case they decide to ask for additional info which is always a possibility. -
COVID-19 Extension Trat anyone?
Greenwich Boy replied to Annika DM's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
The 60 days from application is frustrating as I am stamped in till 20 Feb. My cunning plan is I have an appointment booked at immigration on 25 Jan and if extensions are not continued I will turn up and see what I can get. If they are continued, I will cancel the appointment and go closer to 20 Feb. I am using an agent and would consider this approach a bit risky without one. Fingers crossed for the 24th! -
Just a personal comment. I have a British passport but my family live in Queensland. I have had two jabs and a booster but have been unable to visit them for over two years without very expensive and almost impossible to obtain hotel quarantine. I do not want to make a pro vaccine statement but if there are entry rules then they should be applied to all.
