  1. Hi,

Due to a miscalculation, I will have to overstay for 1 day next month before taking my flight out to NZ. I spend a lot of time here, although I'm not retired or old enough, and have never overstayed before. So assuming I turn up to the airport (at Samui), apologise and pay my fine, will this affect any future touist visa/entry permits I might have?

A 1 day overstay does NOT get you an overstay stamp in your passport. What it DOES get you is a stamp (in thai) that says you were granted a 24 hour extension. NO fine is required to be paid at the aiport. This is not only written on the wall at the airport but been discussed frequently on this board. AFAIK, this only applies to thne airport. Don't think you get the free 1 day at a land border crossing but I'm not 100% on this.

    Hope that clears things up.

I've also been on two separate one day overstays, on both of those occassions I was doing a border run to Cambodia, both times it cost me 500 baht, so it's not the same as departing from the airport.. I also received the extra stamp in my passport for the one day extension, or what ever it says in Thai... So, now I have 3 of these stamps in my passport and has not affected my returns to Thailand or my recently approved application for a 60 day tourist Visa..

  2. silly question, but why not go to aiport the day before your plane (no overstay) and wait there your plane. Eventually explaining the situation to the imigration Police?

    Will cost nothing

you are wrong buddy You still pay overstay! even if your plain is leaving at 01:00 in the morning and you go thru the immigration before midnight! the immigation calculates the overstay from the time when the plain is leavig, so it doesent matter when you go thru the immigration you still pay!

If you're talking about a one day overstay, you're incorrect as well... A one day overstay cost you nothing!! First day of an overstay is zero baht.. second day is 1000 baht, and 500 baht for each day after..

  3. Onboard here with those that mentioned that a one day overstay cost nothing... but it is 1000 baht for the second day, then 500 baht for each day after.. I overstayed 3 days the first week of October 07, I just paid the 1500 baht... Now I just applied and received a 60 day tourist visa from the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, DC .... There was questions ask or mentioned for the reason of my 3 day overstay.. So, it's all good, I'll be back the end of Februrary 08...

  4. When I go to Bangkok... I normally stay at a hotel on Soi Ladprao Rd.. The average taxi fare would be 140 to 150 baht. That's what your honest taxi drivers charged, which I normally give them 200 baht and let them keep the change.. And it's not like the expect a tip, because they normally end up handing me back the change, but I just say keep it..

Now I had a couple devious drivers that wanted to make some extra money... One took a longer route to the hotel, which the fare ended up being 180 baht, he got a 20 baht tip.. Then I had one driver that kind of upset me, when I got into his cab at the airport, told him where I needed to go, he said 300 baht.. I said no thanx and started to get out of the cab.. Then he said, ok "METER" - so I agreed.. Once I got to the hotel, the meter said 150 baht.. Since he was an idiot, I gave him 170 baht.. He said NO!!! 200 Baht!!! I pointed at the meter, then he pulled out the tax cab fare list, and he points at this little qoute that says something like "fares for pickup from the airport is an additional 50 baht."

I've never seen this additonal fare posted before, and never been charged this additonal fare from the airport on my previous trips to Thailand. I ended up giving him what he wanted --- 200 baht.. and he was happy!! No big deal, cuz that's what I normally pay..

  5. OK....I am a non techie AND lazy (perhaps this is somewhere on this board already) BUT I do find these things change often so looking for a current update:

Want to give my family ONE number to call me in Bangkok or elsewhere in Thailand and I PAY FOR THE CALL> I see many call back such options and I also have used prepaid cardes that I send to them.

My kids are too lazy to call 800 number, then code, then number etc..... And parents too elderly to follow the lengthy instructions!

ONE 800 or 866 or whatever number I give to them so they can call me DIRECT and I PAY via a credit card on file or some other way.

NO VOIP or computer options. Need calls to originate from either a landline or cell/mobile in US direct to my Thai mobile.

Help me out guys and gals. Thanks.......

The info below was sent to me by [email protected].. Not sure if this will help?

The Onesimcard, will do everything you need. You can be in any country and receive and make calls. How ever the number that you will get is an Estonian mobile number (372 5). You have the option of getting a US toll free number, which you will be able to forward to your international cell phone, and you can forward your existing phone line (office and mobile) to the 800 number. Please call 800 640 2599 ext 106 for more details and answers thank you. [email protected]

  6. All I know is... Many times I tried to flag down many taxi cabs with the light on and they would not stop.. I've been refused a few times to be taken to a destination by a cab driver while staying Bangkok as well.. One time the taxi driver stopped, I got in, told him to take me to the bus station, he looked at me like I was supposed to speak Thai to him, he apparently did not understand where I wanted to go, so I had to get out of the cab... Then one time near Soi Cowboy, the dude stopped, spoke to him through the window, told him I need a ride to Nana Plaza, he said no.. (not sure what the problem with that was)..

Then while in Pattaya, numerous times, them freaking baht bus pick-up trucks would not stop.. I had many drive right by me, then stop and pick up someone esle further down the street..

It's frustrating some times, but shit, when I'm in Thailand, it's not like I'm on a schedule to be any where at a set time.. :o

  7. can anyone answer my question I asked 5 pages ago, please ???

has somebody heard of an arrest in the case of the two russian tourist girls who were shot at pattaya in the early morning hours in their beach chairs ???????

or has something changed in pattaya since ?? more police on the streets? ...or do we just forget everything after some days?

  8. I'm actually sick and tired of Farangs sticking up for Thais in issues like these as if they were a poor, downtrodden persecuted race! It's about time Farangs stood by one another instead of looking at it from the predudiced and xehophopic Thai viewpoint. After all, they stick together regardless of whether they're in the wrong. So should we!

The most ignorant thing I've ever heard!!!

  9. Well its unfortunate for the estonian man, but pretty stupid behaviour on their part. They go back and decided to fight??? Logic says I am a foreigner in another country, perhaps not good idea to do such a thing.

Anyways - stupid behaviour in Thailand can cost you quite dearly - you want trouble you will certainly find it in spades. :o

I have read your posts for a few years now and you constantly go on about the foreign side being in the wrong. You work offshore and are here now and again.. You live a fly in and have a good time type thing and then fly out, so you are not a true judge of people living here daily.

The Thais are in the wrong for a killing a man, so why not at least bring that up in your "this is Thailand" speel that you seem to cling to. The day you actually live here, your perception of the place will change.

Life aint that sunny day to day and at the end of the day, the foreigners were treated poorly because they changed their minds about going into a place. The should not have gone back granted, but they didnt deserve to die.

Defender of the Realm = Pfffff

My opinion is if you go back for a fight, when you had the opportunity to avoid it, then what ever happens, happens!! These idiots most likely assumed they would confront some small weak Thai dudes without thinking that something bad could happen to them.. Besides, as it was explained that the only thing these guys did was change their minds about going into this club, who knows what really happened that made the Thai's upset? I've walked down/gone into most of the bar/clubs on that street, never had a problem, even when I'm asked to go into a club that I had no intention of going into, all I did was smile and say no thank you.. I'm going esle where...

A few years back in Jomtien, I was walking on the beachside of the road with two other Farangs, one of my buddies saw a nice looking Thai chick, all he said was hello to her when this little Thai dude came out of no where and started yelling at us, saying that she was his girlfriend and told us to "F" off and would not stop talking shit.. We were already about a block away, when one of my friends said, lets go back and kick this dudes ass, but common since told us, this dude is not alone, so we kept on walking.. Did I feel like we got punked? Nope, we just thought it was pretty funny and LIVED to see another day, or maybe in the worse case, we avoided killing him and us going to jail...

I'm not pro Thai or pro Foreigner... I just read most of these post and have come to the conclusion that the Thai's are always getting blamed when things go wrong..

  10. Several of my sleeping partners in the past experienced phi am, a ghost sitting on their chest. But this is a universal phenomenon attributed to sleep paralysis. In the West it's called an incubus.

    Cauchema.jpg

Thanks for posting this info... I had no idea that the problem I had been experiencing for the past 20 years was sleep paralysis... The times I'd wake up and can't move, it was pretty scary the first few times it happened, but now I just do my best to left my body out of it.. I normally sleep on my stomach, so I don't have the feeling of someone sitting on my chest, but can imagine that's how it would feel like..

About the ghost stories... About 5 years ago, I stayed at a hotel in Bangkok with my TGF... I woke up during the night and felt like someone was in the room, I did not see anything but felt the presence of something.. The next morning, I went to take a shower and still felt that presence that someone was there.. I spoke to my TGF about it.. She told me that she woke up and there was a woman sitting on the corner of the bed.. She said she put the covers over her head, then eventually went back to sleep.. 30 mins later we were packed up/checked-out and moved to another hotel..

  11. Crime

Five British nationals have been murdered in Thailand since January 2006.

Watch out for crimes of opportunity. You shoud take sensible precautions and be on your guard against pickpockets and bag snatchers.

We receive regular reports of credit card fraud after shop employees have copied card details. You are advised not to lose sight of your credit card during transactions.

There has been a number of incidents where tourists have had their drinks drugged (in both tourist areas and red light districts). You should be careful about taking drinks from strangers and be wary at clubs and parties, particularly in the Koh Samui area and at the Full Moon party on Phangan Island where incidences of date rape have been reported. A number of British nationals have suffered severe psychiatric problems as a result of drug use, in a small number of cases resulting in suicide.

We receive occasional reports of tourists who have been robbed after bringing visitors to their hotel rooms. In some cases their drinks were drugged. Ensure that your passport and wallet are secure at all times.

We continue to receive reports of sexual offences committed against foreign women and men. In January 2006, three British women were raped in separate incidents in Thailand, including one who was murdered. Female travellers in particular should maintain a high state of personal awareness during their time in Thailand. For more information see Assault, Sexual Assault and Rape Overseas

You should report any incidents of crime to the Thai police before leaving the country.

For more general information please see Victims of Crime Abroad

  12. Anyway a big mess.

I think it's called a "murder". Anyway we're speculating which we shouldn't do.

You think this is "murder" sounds like the policeman was there to stop the situation PERIOD!! If the now DEAD Canadian was close enough to get shot in the mouth, he must have been struggling with the off duty policeman.. and the outcome was due to the Canadian and his actions..

The way I've been seeing the way Thai justice works, the tourist are the one's getting away murder and are always expect to be right in any situation, even if they're wrong..

There of course, must be a full investigation, then let the law dictate the outcome.. I think the policeman is screwed.. I hope he's vendicated!!!

  13. I've been to Thailand numerous times with and without a VISA, I've never been asked to provided proof of confirmation of a return flight.. Now, there are signs posted that you can clearly see while standing in the immigrations line that states you need to show proof of return flight. Although I've always had a return flight confirmed and always purchase an e-ticket, there were times I did not have the documentation to provide the immigrations officer, nor asked for it. In fact my last trip to Thailand (Aug 07), I actually handed a copy of my online email return flight confirmation receipt to the immigrations officer, she did not even bother to look at it.. she just wanted my passport.. Since I've always had a round trip ticket, I don't know about the problem with checking in at your originating destination.. I guess I'd call the airline prior to departing and see if they'll let your friend board without a purchased return ticket...

  14. I'd or I'll try to look at the bright side of this, at least she said postpone the wedding date and not canx.. This could be some type of superstition or belief or it could be something more sinister, but let's go with it what their family believes in..

For example my Thai girlfriend grandparents were building a more modern home a long, long time ago.. They had the cement pillars in the ground when they stopped the construction of it. Both the Grandparents supposedly had the same dream one night of snakes in the house they were building, so they stopped building it and went back to live in the bamboo piece of crap that looks like it's more than a hundred years old..

The not seeing you for one year seems a little strange in my opinion..

  15. Anyone currently living in the Pattaya area that is renting a house or condo that can give me a clue on what's a good monthy amount of rent to pay.. I'll be visiting next Jan on a one year visa, and I'm looking for fairly inexpensive place to stay that is fairly decent.

I've done some online searches at some services availabe and the prices very so much.. Any recommendations.

If you can email me at [email protected] that would be great..

  16. I am 45 years asian american living in Los Angeles. I wonder wheather the royal thai consulate in LA is willing to issue a Multiple-Entry Non-Immigrant Visa or not? Does anybody has any experience or opinion? Thank you very much!

Mori if you find out that answer, let me know.. I'm in the same boat. I want the same type of visa.. I don't plan on working in Thailand.. I plan on purchasing a home, but my next visit, I planned on a 3 month trips, but now I'm just trying to figure how about doing it.
