I'm Christian and you know what Islam says about my religion? It says Jesus Christ wasn't the son of God. Neither was he crucified and he didn't die on the cross for the sins of the world. They have disrespected the foundation of my religion. Now do you see any Christians going out there protesting and killing Muslims? Or firebombing their mosques?
There is no excuse for their kind of barbaric behavior. And it's amazing some people are still practically defending what they're doing in the name of their peaceful religion.
The problems between Christians and Muslims has been going on a long time. What is happening now is just another episode in a very old war

The First Crusade
Pope Urban II (1088-1099, see art below) was responsible for assisting Emperor Alexus I (1081-1118) of Constantinople in launching the first crusade. He made one of the most influential speeches in the Middle Ages, calling on Christian princes in Europe to go on a crusade to rescue the Holy Land from the Turks. In the speech given at the Council of Clermont in France, on November 27, 1095, he combined the ideas of making a pilgrimage to the Holy Land with that of waging a holy war against infidels.1
Dr. E.L. Skip Knox gives a summary of the pope's speech, which has been recorded differently in various sources:
"The noble race of Franks must come to the aid their fellow Christians in the East. The infidel Turks are advancing into the heart of Eastern Christendom; Christians are being oppressed and attacked; churches and holy places are being defiled. Jerusalem is groaning under the Saracen yoke. The Holy Sepulchre is in Moslem hands and has been turned into a mosque. Pilgrims are harassed and even prevented from access to the Holy Land.
"The West must march to the defense of the East. All should go, rich and poor alike. The Franks must stop their internal wars and squabbles. Let them go instead against the infidel and fight a righteous war.
"God himself will lead them, for they will be doing His work. There will be absolution and remission of sins for all who die in the service of Christ. Here they are poor and miserable sinners; there they will be rich and happy. Let none hesitate; they must march next summer. God wills it!
If the Muslims are still smarting over whatever happened a thousand years over, I'd suggest they get over it.
There in lies the problem, since those early days Christians/The West have never ever left the Muslim lands, they have never ever stopped interfering in Muslim lands.
These riots and protests have absolutely nothing to do with this movie, It is just a rallying call to those that are angry at the never ending western interference in their lands.

I’d like to take more than my free allocation. How much will it cost?
We understand that it’s not always easy to pack within your weight limit. For an additional charge you can increase the amount of luggage you can take on your flight. Alternatively, you can send your extra weight for a reduced cost through Crystal Cargo.
1. Calculate the cost per kilogram. This is based on the length of your flight. Firstly, find out the Zone for your origin and your destination in the table below. For example, if I travel from Morocco (Africa) to Japan I am travelling from Zone 2 to Zone 3.
Zone
Origin/Destination
Zone 1
Indian Subcontinent, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, the Maldives, Syria and the UAE
Zone 2
Africa, China, Europe, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Philippines, Russia, the Seychelles and Thailand
Zone 3
Australia, Japan and Korea
2. Refer to the below table to understand the cost per extra kilogram you wish to take. Zone 2 to Zone 3 will incur a charge of US $45 for each extra kilogram you wish to take. Taking a 5kg bag will incur a cost of US $225.
To/From
Zone 1
Zone 2
Zone 3
Zone 1
US $10
US $20
US $35
Zone 2
US $20
US $35
US $45
Zone 3
US $35
US $45
US $50
Exception - Singapore/Brisbane: If you are travelling from Singapore to Brisbane, or Brisbane to Singapore your luggage will be charged at the rate of US $20 per kg.
Exception - Beijing/Nagoya: If you are travelling from Beijing to Nagoya, or Nagoya to Beijing, your excess baggage will be charged at the rate of US $10 per kg.

You actually stated in the OP that you dream of becoming a Thai, don't you think you should live in that country first for a considerable amount of time to understand your "dream" better?
Only then can you make sound judgments instead of asking people who really don't know you,how to do something that is extremely difficult to do even if you wanted to!
Realism is sometimes hurtful.
Ever heard of the child visiting a firefighter station and dreamed to be a firefighter ? Or the other one that went in the plane for the first time and wanted to be a pilot ?
Follow your heart
Yes, as they got older they researched what they would need to do to become a Firefighter/Pilot. They then educated themselves to a standard where they could apply to train as a Firefighter/Pilot. When they completed their training successfully they were then able to achieve their dream.
The guy that turns up at the Airport aged 30 and says can someone tell me how I get to fly one of those planes, rarely achieves his dream.

You will never see a Tiger that is stalking you. You will be dead before you realise it. You could try wearing a face mask on the back of your head. Tigers like to attack from behind and become confused when they see a face on both sides of your head

I have no formal training in Thai language. I can neither read nor write Thai. The Thai I learned has been from listening to Thais speak for the 20+ years I have been coming here. My Thai is improving all the time. I can hold a basic conversation and for the most part when Thais here me speak they think I understand far more than I do. I just mimic their words and tones. I will freely admit that all my first thai lessons came from bar girls. I spoke Thai like a bar girl and many thais gave me odd looks when they would hear me speak. I honestly had no idea that I was using so much vulgar slang in my speech as I had no formal training. It wasn't till I met my wife some 8+ years ago that I was made aware how vulgar my speech was. She was not a BG and was shocked to hear me use such words. Since then it has been pointed out to me what words are appropriate for mixed company and what is considered very much inappropriate to be used by a foreigner under ANY circumstanced. Thais are allowed to use slang and "familiar" words with each other that I am not allowed to use even with my wife. She can say "meung" and "goo" with her brothers but I am not allowed to use such terms with her and she does not use them with me.
I sometimes very much misunderstand what is being said when I hear it. Most of my understanding of Thai comes from context rather than dictionary definition of words. It can be very easy to misunderstand the words they are using if you are not formally trained in this language.
That said, there are MANY occasions that I hear Thais using VERY derogatory language with each other as well as foreigners. I seem to know more bad words than good words as well as the context in which they are used. That's how it goes when you learn thai from listening to BGs.
I should add that I swear a lot in English and tend to speak like a sailor. It's funny to hear how my wife has picked up these words not knowing they are not appropriate to be used in mixed company. I always get a laugh when my wife unknowingly uses swears when speaking with my mother. She means no disrespect but honestly doesn't know she is using slang and swears.
I can well imagine this. I was speaking with a Thai girl a few years bask who had very good English, only problem was that every second word was <deleted>/F**cking/C**t. It was horrible listening to her and she didn't even realise how bad it was. If she hadn't learned these words as part of her spoken vocabulary, she would have sounded so much nicer.

It is often helpful to look back in History. The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria was the spark that ignited World War 1. These type of incidents don't have anything to do with what's going on. This just sparked underlying tensions, that were already bubbling up. World War One, would have occurred whether the Duke was assassinated or not.

I have seen Post Office boxes in the Post offices in Thailand. Not sure if you can rent one from abroad. The ones I sa had a door inside the post office and another in the wall outside. customers can then collect their mail even when the post office is closed

Sam Bacile Muhammad Movie FULL HD - Innocence of Muslims
should be ban and remove from u-tube.
Another solution might be to flood Islamic countries with offensive material on a daily basis. Eventually, after many deaths, the offensiveness won't be as powerful. Just like back in 1939 Clark Gable caused a scandal by cursing in a movie! What did he say? "Frankly my dear, I don't give a dam_n". Muslims are still in that Gone With the Wind stage, we need to get them up to the Jay & Silent Bob stage then they won't get so freaked out and kill people.
This is funny. It seems that forum boards must still be living in "Gone with the wind" stage as well

OK, maybe my ears aren't so good. I've been told that it is "Ta Moog" in Issan Laos ตาโม่ง. In Thai it is "Ta Tol" in Thai ตาโต.
Ok, never seen that word before 'mohng' central Thai for 'unusually big or gigantic'
and 'dtaa toh' again central Thai meaning 'wide-eyed'
An neither is "mun" or "meung" or "farang" right? So can we agree that it was misheard and in no way was meant to be derogatory or said with malintent?
Maybe a lot of problems arise because of this. Most of us don't have a full grasp of the Thai language and can hear or think we hear derogatory words, but in reality they may not be. But of course Thailand has it's share of people that are rude people and will use derogatory words and terms when dealing with foreigners. They are the same as people all over the world

Thank you for that. Mohng definitely sounds better than Mung or Moog and I can see where it may have sounded like mun or meung in speech
-
Now, if I hadn't known the big eyes meaning and had read this thread about how derogatory the word mun or mueang was, what might I have done.
They are calling you Dtaa Nam Ngern" which means 'blue eyes'. Nam Ngern which is usually spoken quicky ...... and to you sounds like 'mung'. Sorry, your poor hearing, doesn't mean they are being rude to you.
OK, not 'big eyes' but 'blue eyes' geddit?
If they wanted to insult you it would be 'Dtaa Luak' which is 'bug eyes'.
I was told that "Ta Mung" means Big eyes in the Issan dialect and in Thai it is "Ta Toe" I've heard this from a few different Thais
surely you must be misunderstanding. I don't even understand how "meung" (the informal way to say you) would even go in your sentence. If the girls at the counter were saying it and NOT talking directly TO you then "meung" doesn't even apply. And I would be quite surprised if a thai lady would walk up to you to deliver a compliment using the word "meung".

Should have a private password protected hidden website for farangs with retired people willing to give airport taxi rides for cheap price.. let's say gas both way is 200baht then they offer it for 400-500b and all profit goes to the driver.
Better than hanging around tesco
Probably end up hanging from a coconut tree if a retired farang attempted to do that

What have they done all year? Simple, devised more hollow political diatribe to justify huge budgets where the majority goes back to the politicians and their 'business' associates, and the Thai people suffer more, and get more taxes added to line the pockets of these criminals. But that's okay - the Reds will keep voting for Miss Yingluck and the puppet master because ignorance is bliss.
"the Reds will keep voting for Miss Yingluck and the puppet master because ignorance is bliss".
Unfortunately this is the crux of the matter!!! Their stupidity and ignorance defies belief as they blindly follow and aimlessly support this abject bunch of criminals towards an ever more deteriorating life style and bleak existence as they swallow the lies and deceit!!
When will they ever learn? probably never seems the most likely answer to that one.
And your solution to Thailand's problems would be?
A solution to the flood problems was offered to the Thai government.
However, same government decided that the Chinese solution was more acceptable for Thailand.
Hence the repeating water problems........................
(Psttt, it is said the Chinese solutions offers more opportunities for...........)
Can you give details on this solution and who offered it ?

Shops should be free to charge extra for people using visa cards. Why should people who pay cash subsidize people that want to use visa cards? Shops have to pay a fee, so why do you think you should get it for free? If you don't want to pay the fee, then don't use the card. Simple.
Should shops also then be free to charge extra for people that use cash if they want to ? Cash needs to be collected from and taken to banks, this costs money, somebody's time has to be paid for, maybe even a security company paid for to collect the cash. Why should Credit Card users subsidise people that want to use cash.

Well the Army has still the highest credibility in Thailand.....mainly because all other have no credibility at all.
I fully understand that such mistakes happen. But I do not understand why they can't admit it.
If they admit it, they will have to sue the company that provided it. If they do that, any bribes or backhanders may be revealed in the public or courts. They don't want that happening.

So now some of you have decided that Thailands government is responsible for the bad weather ?
Tell me in what way your own countries have managed in coping with any recent disasters caused by the weather.

I think every wild creature in Thailand is endangered and no Im not joking. Not like the rest of Asia is any better.
They're just catching up with the West
rather than "caching up" wouldn't it be better first to learn form the mistakes of the west and then take a leaf out of the wealth of scientific research and knowledge the West has subsequently developed?
it's available to all.
I think for the reasons above it is terribly sad that someone on this thread couldn't see the relationship of this list to Thailand - it shows that extreme ignorance of how the lackadaisical attitude of Thailand affects ALL conservation is not restricted to Thai people alone. .... the issues are not restricted by national barriers and Thailand's inactivity on this subject is lamentable
In typical Western Fashion, Westerners like to point at the flaws of Asia whilst holding themselves up as shining examples of righteousness. Blinded by their own sense of superiority, they can't allow their minds to consider that the West is at least equal if not worse that any other place in the world.

The movie is just an excuse . We helped their country become a democracy and these crazy gaddafi loyalists are killing our people. Ungrateful <snip>
So you think we 'helped them get democracy' !! That statement displays just how little you understand about certain regions of the world. What for one minute makes you think the Libyans wanted democracy? Under Ghaddafi they had their own form of democracy, with peoples conferences where decisions were made.
There were no homeless
Free Health care (some of the best in the world)
Woman had equal rights
Free Education and Universities for all
50 000 USD as a gift to each couple that got married
$7000 USD as a gift when each child was born
Free electricity
Free water
50% off the price of your car paid by the Government if you were military 65%
loans for cars and property 0% interest
Every family was given $500 USD per month in their banks from the 'profit from oil share scheme'
0% tax for those involved in agriculture
if you were willing to work the land, as much land as you could work and all seed was given free
$ 20 000 USD gift if you wanted to start a new business
and more, much much more.
These folks had a better life than most Americans and Europeans. dam_n right they are ungrateful and pi**ed off that 'we' went in and gave them democracy. What do they have now........ nothing, but we got our oil and we put in a Central bank and now Libya has been saddled with hundreds of billions in debt to pay for our help in making them a democracy! Democracy is not the only way to govern and Libya had a successful alternative model. If you would have lived there YOU would have been a Ghaddafi loyalist!
There will be a whole lot of flag burning tomorrow (at best), all over the muslim world, and the known Al Quaida terrorists that we shipped in to libya and armed and got them to do the dirty work are unsurprisingly now settled in 'their' new country and they wont give up their weapons or their fight to take the whole country. We have, once again created yet another cluster <deleted> of a situation. You don't think for a minute that all those resistance fighters were normal Libyan people do you?
Already, more attacks on an Embassy today, and when those videos get out via all the social network sites...boom! The videos are in no way any justification for any person on this planet to take another's life, but only the retarded and malicious would have made them and uploaded them. A crime against humanity I guess, or it will be by the end of the next few weeks.
WHERE DID THE WHITE MAN GO WRONG?
Indian Chief, "Two Eagles," was asked by a US government official, "You have observed the white man for 90 years. You've seen his wars and his technological advances. You've seen his progress, and the damage he's done."
The Chief nodded in agreement.
The official continued, "Considering all these events, in your opinion, where did the white man go wrong?"
The Chief stared at the government official for over a minute and then calmly replied. "When white man find land, Indians running it. No taxes, No debt, Plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, clean water, women did all the work, Medicine man free. Indian man spend all day hunting and fishing; all night having sex."
Then the chief leaned back and smiled. "Only white man dumb enough think he improve system like that."
