I haven't received any mail in the 8 years I've been in Phuket. Never even crossed my mind to send or receive mail here as I assumed it would be futile exercise.

I generally wear the mask on top of my head, like a kippah (a Jewish cap), unless I'm in a public place or within 2 metres of a stranger. I tried wearing it on my chin, but the sweaty chin got a bit annoying after a while, and it rubbed my stubble.
I've been stopped by the old bill several times recently in the car, and they were quite happy that I was wearing the face mask as a hat, and even gave me the thumbs up.
Completely useless, other than the fact that my lip balm and hair gel now cross paths and serve a dual purpose.
(and yes, I am Jewish, but that's not the point obviously)

What a load of <deleted>. Most of my mates had it, (what appears to now be the bat flu), in January and February.
Some of my mates had it pretty bad and actually went to the doctor! Couple of panadol and sent home.
Let's not wreck the economy shall we?
Oops, to late. Thanks to the media, and our friends to north who caused this.

Not true. The only countries that you need an IDP in addition to your own national driver's licence (assuming it's in English), is Japan, Taiwan, Monaco, and a small handful of maybe five others that you'd probably never go to anyway. The big one that catches people out is Japan. It caught me out several years back, so I always have a current IDP when I go there. Never been asked for it anywhere else and I've rented cars all over the world.

Hello, did a search on the forum but no joy.
Can anyone tell me what documents I need to give my friend who I'm selling my scooter to so he can go and register it in his name? I've given him the green (blue?) book but that's it. Is there a form I need to sign or anything?
Many Thanks,

I fly in and out of Phuket every week as I commute to work somewhere else in SE Asia. I've never once in 7 years been asked by immigration on the way in for a return ticket.
My passport fills up with these damn stamps rapidly though, which is a pain!

Do yourself a huge favour and rent a car. Taxi drivers here are certifiable lunatics.

Carried them back from the US in a small box. But I'm sure you can get them delivered to Thailand by Amazon, or failing that somewhere else in Asia like Hong Kong (I know they deliver there) and bring them back in. They're in a small box. Customs didn't bat an eyelid when I came in with it.

Hello, does anyone recommend someone they've used to paint/stain/treat a large wooden deck around the pool of a house?
North of Heroine's monument preferably as we live in the Laguna area.

Hello,
We're getting hammered by the mossies. Does anyone know where (preferably central or north Phuket) I might be able to find a large mosquito net to stick to the ceiling above the bed, and surround the bed entirely?
Many Thanks,
FC

Thanks for the head's up. Ended up taking it to BQuik in Thalang and they seem to have done a decent job.

Hello, now that the Honda dealer just west of Heroine's is closed, where do people take their Honda's for 'big' services? Preferably north of Heroine's..
Many Thanks,

I think there's a place to the south of Laguna, in the Boat Avenue shopping area where the Villa supermarket is. In one of the containers above the Frying Kiwi fish and chip place.

Yes, Value+, that's the one.
I don't bother going anywhere else these days, they're virtually impossible to beat, and wipe the floor with the bank's exchange rates.
-
I've shopped around a fair bit, looked at the banks, and various currency exchanges around Phuket. Usually I just withdraw money straight from my Hong Kong debit/atm card (HSBC) as that's a pretty good rate and super convenient.
But for larger amounts, apparently there's a place somewhere in Phuket Town north east a few blocks of immigration that does the best rates on the island. I used them a few years back, but they're a pain to find.
So now I use the red exchange place, I think they're called XValue or something similar. There's one in the middle of the banking/exchange offices on the banking floor in Central Festival. There's also one on the gravel parking lot in front of Pepper's Bar on the way into Laguna. And another big red building on the left north of the lights on the road leading to airport, about 500 metres south of the airport proper.
Can anyone remember the name of this 'red' exchange booth? I've found them the best.
