  1. I ordered a taxi from Mr. Toom from the airport to Pattaya and it didn't arrive to pick me up.

So I had to throw myself to the vultures.

    Never again.

On a previous thread you said Mr T didn't pick you up from the airport, now you say Mr Toom. Which one is it? I have never had any problems with Mr T.

Pretty sure it was Mr. Toom.

If I said Mr. T, then I probably thought they were one in the same.

Anyway, the taxi meter guys have muscled there way to the front entrance.

Can just hop in one of them for 1500 baht if nobody is there to pick you up.

  2. This is the quietest I have seen Pattaya.

Are you serious? There's a lot of tourists around right now. Were you not here around the time of the airport closure?...that was a quiet time, but not now.

Beer bars and other bars do not profit from the "real" tourists, so using beer bars and other sex trade related industries can give a false indication on how the tourist trade is going in general. Pattaya is going through a transformation that will not help the sex trade.

    Dream on!

And what Sex trade? Who is trading whom?

    You're either joking or stupid.

A 'trade' refers to a market, or the livelihood of the people in that particular market:

    trade

–noun 1. the act or process of buying, selling, or exchanging commodities, at either wholesale or retail, within a country or between countries: domestic trade; foreign trade.

    2. a purchase or sale; business deal or transaction.

    3. an exchange of items, usually without payment of money.

    4. any occupation pursued as a business or livelihood.

    5. some line of skilled manual or mechanical work; craft: the trade of a carpenter; printer's trade.

    6. people engaged in a particular line of business: a lecture of interest only to the trade.

    7. market: an increase in the tourist trade.

    8. a field of business activity: a magazine for the furniture trade.

    9. the customers of a business establishment.

  3. The price for Thai children going to school has always been 5 baht in Pattaya. If your child is foreign, then she pays the same price as you do.

    Barry

Which begs the question, when exactly does the double pricing start?

At conception, three months, or birth?

That depends on what you mean by "double pricing".

If you mean 'destined to be double priced', then it certainly begins at conception.

  4. To the parents' defense, not many six year olds put themselves in the position of climbing over the rails of a balcony so that a fall is even possible.

I remember being six years old and having plenty of opportunities to put myself in dangerous situations or even off myself.

It just hardly ever happens because our survival instincts give us tremendous fear at that age.

  5. Thai news online just says that a Shoe shop was on fire on the first floor...

A lot of fire engines for such a small fire.. They were passing for an hour and a half!

    Shoe shop?

Maybe we'll be hearing about an arrest for insurance fraud soon.

  6. Well thats no small stash.....some middle man somewhere will be hurting....anyway, hopefully they make more arrests & hang em high :D

now all the bleeding hearts can come in here and tell us how we should just legalise these drugs :o

Something tells me you'd like to inject the potassium chloride yourself.

Murderers and advocates of murder like you are the real sickness in this world.

  7. No way of knowing if the weights are accurate. If they are, that stuff will be 'recycled' back on the market fairly quickly.

By the way, I didn't know they sold ya bah at Big C. :o

351 kgs of Heroin all in one location.... not very smart dealers are they....would the same as having +/-7 X 50kg bags of cement sitting in the house, think that number is missing a decimal point...3.51kg maybe ??

Or maybe the unit was wrong. Maybe 351 grams.

  8. I assume I can talk about this since it is an entertainment venue and I am not discussing bar girls.

When I have friends in town I usually take them to angelwitch to see the show. Mamasan knows me there, she usually comes up for an uninvited chat hoping for a drink. One of my friends very clearly ordered rum and coke, the only thing he drinks. they brought a tall glass which he took a sip of. He told me there was no rum in it. i called the waitress over and she said, Oh, he wanted rum and coke and not just coke. she then rushed off, grabbing the bin, without taking the coke and brought back a rum and coke and the bin. we looked at the bin and saw two drinks, a rum and coke and a coke. I nicely told the girl that she made the mistake and to take off the coke. she said no, he drank some of it. I explained that would be the only way he would know there was no rum in it. she said sorry but he took a drink of it and cannot take off the bill. Now there we 3 waitress discussing it. Knowing mamasan I called her over to fix this. She said she cant take off the coke since he already drank some [maybe 5% of it, one sip]. I told her it was not our mistake and how are we to know there was no rum in it unless we tasted it. she said no. I told her, no problem, I will put it on the internet and let everyone else know. She shrugged and walked away. Stupid people, they have lost a lot of money since I go often and I bring friends, and now, hopefully others will know what a bad policy they have. An expensive coke for them since I wont be back........

and yes, I did post this on another forum since I feel this is a public service :o

Well, I'd never go back there if this happened to me.

But since it happened to you and not me, I don't really care and probably will go back there at some point.

  9. A slow news day in Pattaya or just trying to conform with the authorities request only to cover good news?

No BKKjames, but I would hazard a guess that that you don't like any nice news.

I can imagine it's all a bit much, firing up the computer and discovering that there hasn't been the usual free-falling farangs, drunken, shirtless (usually English) louts brawling or evil Tourist Police stings on poor Uzbeki girls trying to meet nice guys.

Most days, it is really really nice by the seaside.

I like nice news. So when I have my anniversary later this month, i shall invite Pattaya news one to cover the proceedings and then send to you the info to post on TV.

Reminds me of the time they sent cameras to a 40-something year old man shaving his legs for the first time, but it didn't make the top news that day.

  10. Here's an idea:

Walk to the bar just after midnight with your pajamas on, hair messed up, and stand about 20m away facing the bar.

Put the sourest, angriest look on your face and cross your arms.

Shake your head and block your ears so they know you think it's too loud.

Stand there like this until the bar closes and they turn off the music.

Then put an overwhelming sense of relief on your face and shout, "Finally!"

Continue to do this night after night until they get the picture.

  11. hi a girl stole 235000 from me..she used it to buy computors for a internet shop

she told me she would repay me ...i no she was talking aload of <deleted> so just waited to see what happened

now she has given them to a thai man who has a shop and dissapeared

any one have any ideas if this is a police matter...or do i get a lawyer to sort it out..

Nobody as stupid as you claim to be would ever have that much money, be able to log on to the internet, or even apply for a passport to fly to Thailand.

    Conclusion: Troll

  12. I am writing this as an announcement to the ex pat community/their friends and relatives. As a long time resident of this place at Soi 1 and Beach Rd. I wanted to alert the unwary who might be seeking a new place or who have visitors coming to Pattaya not to stay at the Markland. This dump is 5 years past the need for renovation, shabby, not always clean, gym with broken down equipment, broken Jaccuzi, almost no English by anyone from reception thru maintenance.

Services mainly tour busses & some have cancelled as they are doing very noisy work in the hotel itself, ( sounds like several people hitting steel pipes every day). Rumor has it that the in hotel work will be for a year or more. Additionally a new building, reputedly a Holiday Inn, is going up next door and they work 7 days a week, often 24 hours a day = incredible noise ! This work to continue for at least anothe 6 months. Electric fails frequently and they have an on going extermination problem.

I am stuck with a long term lease but, at no little expense have to consider moving. Which is more important - money or sanity ? I will be looking for either a large studio or 1 bedroom for my wife and I - 2 to 3 year lease

You forgot about the terrible elevator system where, if you get stuck behind a busload of Japanese tourists, you might have to wait at least 10 minutes to get to your floor.

Also, some of the rooms smell bad because the 20 year old carpets haven't ever been replaced. Last time I stayed there, I had to ask for a room change because I couldn't stand the smell. It was the last time.

  13. Surprise, surprise.

In Texas, you're allowed to shoot a suspected robber in the back as he/she runs away.

That's nothing. A couple hundred years ago in the US, you were allowed to burn people at the stake for being a suspected witch.

In the Middle East today, you're still allowed to stone a woman to death for suspected adultery.

In North Korea, people who try to escape to freedom are shot at a public execution.

People used to get their hands cut off for stealing in many places in the world.

As the world grows more liberal, we grow out of these barbaric ways.

The US is the big kid on the hill with the big muscles and taking longer to grow out of this.

And Texas, one of the states that fought a war for the right to own slaves, is part of the reason the US is lagging behind the rest of the world in becoming more liberal.

The fact is, conservatives like you guys who applaud suspected thieves and the like being shot dead, are disappearing.

In the United States, the conservative Republican party and the liberal Democratic party, have grown more liberal in lockstep with each other for the past several decades, and continue to do so.

The future will remember this time as the world for the most part growing out of its barbaric ways, with some dragging their feet, only delaying the inevitable.

  14. Bullshit. I'll never believe that two guys (not one, two) continued to advance an attack on a guy with a gun after a warning shot had been fired in the air.

I emptied my revolver on a perp high on PCP who came at me in full uniform with a knife in his hand. This was when I was a rookie cop with little more than 1 year on the job. He didn't stop on the first through fifth shots and was still coming at me on the six and fell dead while I was reloading.

We don't shoot a warning shot in the air, bullet number one was his warning. I placed all 6 shots in the center of mass as we were trained to do back then. If the facts are as the paper reported it I hope the landlord goes home with nothing hanging over his head.

The pitiful police protection here is his only excuse for being outside with a firearm. I don't think he comes to the table with clean hands but they sure were a lot cleaner than the two perps.

    Certainly a memorable experience.

Then tell me if the guy who came at you would have been capable of unscrewing license plates in an elaborate theft attempt.

I've seen a film about a guy getting arrested dusted to the eyeballs on PCP, naked and running around like an animal, not even coherent enough to say his own name.

"In full uniform" means that you were carrying a weapon as a matter of duty.

This landlord was not in full uniform, but carrying a gun with a specific purpose in mind.

And the reason I emphasized "Two, not one, but two guys" is because I know your scenario is possible.

What I mean is, think about how unlikely it is for one guy to come at you while being shot at. Unlikely, but I'll admit it's possible.

Now think about two, both guys being whacked out of kilter enough to come at you while you're shooting.

On a final note, I can't even remember the last time I heard about a PCP arrest in the news anywhere in the world.

  15. They need to kill more of the thieving scum bags. If more bleeding heart liberals had major items stolen, they may change their minds about thieves being killed.

I guess it shouldn't surprise me weighing in on the unpopular side of this thread.

I've seen a lot of you ogres walking around with a nice looking Thai girlfriend, knowing that without your money she'd think you're nothing, knowing that she actually loves one of these boys, one of her kind, the same age as her. I bet some of you guys would like to see all the 18 year old Thai boys lined up and shot.

It's the only way I can even fathom the fact that most of you think murder is not a disproportionate response to petty theft.

And Gary, I have had a major item stolen. The guy got caught and got what he deserved. Probation for a first time offence and a criminal record. Not the death penalty.

Thats a crap response, makes no sense at all

I was referring to the hostility that some farang men have toward young Thai men due to the "Robin Hood" antics of some Thai women who get money from farang and give it to their Thai boyfriends, the ones they really love.

If you've read many of the past threads on this forum, people's opinions of certain events are definitely influenced by whether the victims are farang or Thai.

In this case, people are applauding the murder of an 18 year old Thai.

But if the murder victim were a middle aged farang man, the reaction would be, "Hate crime...Heartless Thais killing farang...Killed for such a small offense...Thai rak Thai...conspiracy, wasn't really stealing, was set up...etc"
