They better try to find more suppliers who can provide for the plastic cards instead of increasing the price.

You can change it without any problems. Your budget of 5.000 thb is a bit low though. Crank up your budget to 8000 or 9000 and you'll be fine.

I had my car done at this store. I am very happy with it. Why don't you give them a call and ask if they can do it for you.
Where is this place? might pop in and have a word also.
Srinakarin Road near Central Bang-Na
Central Bang-Na is not on Srinakarin, it's on the Trad Road.
Didn't know how else to explain it... it's on Srinakarin road between BIG C and Foodland on the opposite side of the road...

I don't know what you mean by the "brown book".
If you didn't receive your log book from the dealer there is a chance you are using either fake plates or plates which aren't registered by the dealer.
I suggest you contact the dealer for your log book.

Thanks guys, I might check it out as well!!
Join me JaiLai, maybe we get discount if we buy the same
Now I'm wondering how to sell my old DVA and screen though... Simply putting it online on some farang orientated classifieds site does not really help, I would love to sell it for 12,000 as well! :/
@JoeW: Did your new videopanel/screen from another brand fit perfectly in the same space of the old unit? If yes, could you share a picture ? :-)
I'll take some pictures tomorrow morning and upload them. It is not a factory fit, but it ain't bad at all.
I have the JVC KW846 (http://jvc.co.in/car/av_receiver/kw-avx846/index.html). They still go now for around 14000 THB.
Before the JVC and my PJS I had a Kenwood DX4031 in my Toyota which I bought for 8000 THB.
The owner of SRS speaks a bit of English and they are actually really fair (no farang price).
He owns Mitsubishi Lancer fully tuned so he has a lot of experience with Mitsus.
In the weekend, do expect a long line of people installing new radios.
I sold my alpine unit through a buddy who is a member on Pajero-society (a Thai forum for Pajero owners).

From what I remember we got red plates so we could go out of the province where we live.
As for the night time only remember being told not allowed on tollways.
You are not supposed to drive your car on red plates after 6 PM. Not on tollways not on normal roads. However, this law is almost never enforced.

PS: I did replace the whole headunit not only the DVA player. You can pretty much replace it with a decent headunit for 9000 THB (kenwood, jvc).
I sold my Alpine for 12.000 THB to some guy who wanted an original piece.

if you have Chonburi plates and are planning to drive to BKK, make sure to fill in your brown book. After 6PM you are a sitting duck for the BiB.
If you have BKK plates, no need to fill in the book when driving out of BKK.

You can get a decent headunit (JVC, Kenwood, etc) without GPS for around 10.000 to 14.000 THB.
I might be selling my JVC KW-846 unit within the next couple of months since I can get a new alpine unit from my customer (AOAP) on the cheap.

Maybe you might be interested in the Suzuki Ertiga? It ain't that bad in my opinion. Will be launched in Thailand in March this year.

I saw a Toyoya FT-86 in Kalasin...quite weird to see one there

Good morning XLT!
Nice ride buddy! Now I want a ranger too
Too bad I am still paying off the PJS. Good luck with it! Looks AWESOME
-
Drove back from Kalasin today...probably had one of my most pleasant drives of the year. Many U-turns shut off, not too many people, no cops, etc. I wish it could be like this every time I go and visit the in-laws.
Kalasin to BKK: 6 hours
-
I got caught once driving the in-laws' car on the way back to BKK (they failed to tell me the tax was expired).
I paid 500 THB fine, got a receipt and had to pay tax within 2 weeks of the ticket.

Go to SR Sound on Srinakarin Road near the Singapore School of Bangkok. They are quite well-known and very professional.
-
What I hate is when they U-turn on a road...they see me coming for so long, they wait, I get nearer, they wait, I am 100 meters from them, THEN THEY GO
-
try www.trcmotorsport.com They are in Bang-na.
btw dressing up an "old" car (it's only 4 years old) is not a bad idea. Keeps the ride fresh
-
Got my PJS in April, got the tax papers in July and got my plates in November...
Car is registered in Kalasin, but I live in Bangkok. I didn't get stopped even once in BKK for my plates even after 6 PM. I did fill in the brown book every day just in case though.

It's also just the lack of being logical while driving...many accidents could be avoided if people would keep at least 30 meters between each other.
Yesterday I had a few vans and buses drive at 5 meters from me...and I was going 110 km/h...
When buses or trucks sit on my bumper in heavy traffic I break a little, then speed up to make some room, if they continue to sit dangerously close I wait for a hill and slow to a complete stop to give them a few minutes to think about how to keep safe on the roads.
I tend to do something like that from time to time, but not when I have my 6 month old son in the car

I am sure he was not driving more than 120 km/h ...
Still feel sorry for the families of those who lost their lives.

Yeah..if you check the IIHS website you can see that certain cars score poorly, but still get a safety award. No worries
