  1. I totally agre with this crackdown and it should apply to all bars as well in Thailand thai women are very imature even at 25

    Immature?

    So should it be 35?

That totaally rhymes man. Cool that is :o

  2. ...but...it seems to me that I heard that in times gone by there used to be young women dancing with bare breasts as a regular thing at temple festivals.....am I mistaken or has anyone else heard of this?

Its actually quite interesting this is happening because a similar situation is also occuring in Cambodia, a crack down against immoral activities (i.e. wearing a short skirts, adultery, etc..) that our not part of their culture? Funny thing is if these people actually took a look at their cultural history, they would realise it is a part of their culture. I see this as an increasing trend over the world where conservative governments are becoming increasingly more autocratic. :o

I'm sure if you went back "a few more" years, you would find out that all humans walked around naked. I believe remembering that Italian art has plenty of naked female and male statues. I also remember that Italians are not very conservative in dressing, but still appropriate, at least I've never seen them showing their parts in public - unless those carved in stone. In other words, I don't think you make sense.

Well we could say that the cultural developement in SEA has been more continuous than in Europe, except a few short wars. We could also say that in Greek, home of the western culture, insest and pedophilia were commonplace and the norm to go with.

Problem here is again that government is starting at the wrong end again and wasting money if they would start to enforce some new laws... which would be amazing anyway.

  3. What comes to old Khmer temples, they have topless girls all over the walls. What we must realise here is that Thais have basicly nothing to do with the Khmer culture nor religion of that time. There are no topless girls on the walls of thai buddhist temples.

Temple festivals have very little to do with religion though, it's entertainment. Huge parties around the temple grounds. And this was the rocket festival, so a huge event. I don't think anyone would go there if there would be no booze nor entertainment. I would imagine temple festivals are a big thing in the country side in Thailand, never seen one though. I did see some in the Shan States, in the Union of Myanmar. It was a huge party, people getting drunk everywhere. There were two major enterntainment options, ladyboy dancing or kickboxing. I chose the latter. Them both happened inside a walled area, so you had to buy the ticket first.

So I would conclude that this kind of enterntainment is a long going tradition in SEA. Also westernization has a huge influence to the whole cultures in general. That's what the people simply want. Guess they just got too far this time, and it is westernization but it didn't make it happen. Who could stop the time..

I could have another paragraph of the thai buddhism today, which is completely different from what it was say 2000 years ago in another country, but I think you got the point. Let's just say no Buddha statues nor temple festivals...

    edit

As someone already mentioned what are the part time work options for these dancers in the future?

  4. Sounds as a normal Asian airport TokyoT. Cheers.

Thai Airways sacks executive over luggage mess at new airport

Flag carrier Thai Airways International Plc said Friday it has sacked an executive over hours-long luggage delays on the opening day of Bangkok's new international airport.

"The luggage problem was caused by internal management disorders at Thai Airways. We have already sacked a top person in charge of handling luggage," airline president Apinan Sumanaseni told.

Suvarnabhumi airport officially opened on Thursday, with more than 800 flights carrying 120,000 travellers passing through the glitzy three-billion-dollar airport on the first day.

However, the new airport was flooded with complaints from disgruntled international passengers who had to wait for hours to collect their luggage.

Airports of Thailand, which operates Suvarnabhumi, blamed Thai Airways for causing long delays.

"Luggage handling equipment from Thai Airways did not arrive on time and some luggage handlers from the airline did not even show up at the airport," said Chotisak Aspaviriya, president of the airport operator.

"The airline must look after problems for passengers," he said.

The general manager of Suvarnabhumi, Somchai Sawasdeepon, said all operations, including luggage handling, went smoothly on Friday.

"So far we have smooth operations on the second day. To me, the disorders seen yesterday (Tuesday) were normal and acceptable for a new airport," Somchai said.

The airline's chief, Apinan, also said he received no reports of problems on Friday when another 800 flights were expected to pass through.

    ----------------------------------------------

The "executive" is ultimately unnamed, nor even any mention of his real job title. :o

So will the new luggage boss have training for his job?

This is so Asian story. Can you believe in it?

AOT CAPO: You at THAI already caused us problems by your employees negative statements last week. Why cannot you be krengjai for the country?

THAI CAPO: Ok, we take the blame this time, I don't like that guy anyway. So can we go play golf now, you pay.

  5. I had a flight out of Suvarnabhumi today the 28th Sept. Took a taxi from Suk Soi 15 at 7 am, was at airport by 7:30 am. Cost baht 400 negotiated price with taxi, plus 65 baht for toll fees.

    Thanks for the info.

Man have you ever used a metered taxi, or a taxi meter as it is in Thailand?

It can't be more than 200B man...

I'd still like to know some facts of the metered fares though. :o

  6. PM chairs the Cabinet meeting via videoconference

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has chaired the Cabinet meeting via videoconference from the United States of America and ordered relevant units to assist families who were affected from the explosion in Hat Yai (หาดใหญ่) District of Songkhla (สงขลา) Province. The Cabinet meeting has been linked to Hat Yai through videoconference.

Hat Yai local administrators reported the situation in Hat Yai to the Prime Minister. According to the report, the officials are rapidly providing assistance to the stricken families.

Pol. Lt. Col. Thaksin also consulted with Social Development and Human Security Minister Wattana Muangsook (วัฒนา เมืองสุข) on the relief efforts. 200,000 baht of financial aid will be donated to each injured person, while 6,000 baht will be given to the people who have died from the blast.

The Prime Minister said that Mr. Wattana should increase the amount of the financial aid while Mr. Wattana said this amount of money is only an initial assistance. Pol. Lt. Col. Thaksin has reminded the officials to provide good care to the troubled families.

:D How much is a life worth nowadays....and how are they going to spent the money......? :D:o

...and: how thoughtful of the Care-taker PM..... :D

    LaoPo

I would have thought this would drive a load more people into the arms of the insurgents!

    Dead don't vote. :D

  7. 1 what they are seperating from

Most of people there do not even think of separating. It will never happen, they are just being realistic

2 how they want to do it

Those who want to separate do not have any specific plans. They haven't been to MBA schools where they teach you visions and goals and such. Indpendent Pattani is a dream, utopia.

3 how they want to govern it

Those who really want Independent Pattani are most likely to run it according to Sharia

4 will it or wont it be a Islamic state with Islamic run schools and universities

    It most certainly will

The problem is, the separation idea is not very popular. Even die hard, exiled separatists gave up on this. Vast majority of locals do not have any political aspirations for their land, they just want to be left alone. They have serious issues with the way Thais have governed them for the past few years, but no real separatism yet. Terrorists, insurgents, separatist - whatever, get their sympathy, but they don't fully buy into their cause.

So who would be the people for Thai gov to negotiate with?

  8. I'll ask this question again and hope someone could explain it somehow.

Who wants to separate from what and who are causing these problems/bombs?

The way I see it this is just a foreign terrorist playground. Yes they have gained some support from the local pop last years, and thats not a surprise. Even they kill locals, a few locals see it better option than relying on the bangkok gov. But this is talking about a very small local minority.

And no history lessons please. Thats what these terrorists play on and depend on to gain more support.

And yeah I forgot, to form/join what?

I would really like to know this.

  9. Well they have a new plan, or is it a plan, where are the details?

Won't be waiting for anything changing. Sounds more like an advertisement scheme. OK, there are these few "best" gov. Unis which might even like to compete with each other for respect. All the rest private unis are the concearn I think. They are simply just busines, enterprises. Thats it.

Hope I'm wrong and this will improve the standards of education.

I'm a student at a higly ranked private university in Bangkok and I have grown very cynical and jaded as well. Word of the institution seems to be MONEY. I have figured it out this way that in this society it's simply important to create good connections with other people. That is what private universities provide. Most students don't go there to learn or for any academic purpose.

  10. On waht basis?

    Please, give me some proof/documents.

On the basis that he was an undesirable alien. Deportation does not require probable cause. Karr wasn't charged until he arrived in the USA.

Sonnyj, you have to understand that countries work sort of like bars: They reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.

That's why the immigration in any country - USA, Thailand, wherever - can deny entry to any foreigner, without legal recourse.

I'm not denying any of Thailands rights as an independent country here.

Just can't see any proof that he's on unwanted list. Actually remember reading a comment from the Thai police that he will be welcomed back if he's not guilty. Sorry but have source to give you.

I'm just saying that it has happened many times before, even persons who have committed crimes in Thailand have managed to return legally. Hope it would change but can see only few comforting comments that immigration here would change something.. sometime in the future...

If he really want to return, thats another thing. Teaching jobs might be hard to find, but not impossible I'm afraid.
