I have been visiting Thailand for 15 years and lved in Phuket for four. I used to ask the girls either in bars or massage "Do you have any kids?",

and because 99% of them said yes, and how their Thai husband or boyfiend left them for almost any reason, (one was was at Uni 22yo virgin, he was a soldier and said he loved her, they had sex a couple of times, she gets pregnant, so out of school and two years later leaves her for a 17yo pretty girl with no kids.)

I now ask "How many kids do you have? And 99% of the time they say one, two or three, and that they are with her mum in her village (usually in Issan),

and she supports mum, dad and the kids, I hav stopped calling them Hooker, or in Thai Soapany, and call tmem "unmarried mothers" or "single mothers"

if asked by peopl that have no understanding that their is no welfare, or chid maintenance laws or Govt assistance of any kind for "single mothers",

(you can in fact starve here unlike Australia and most developed countries) they do what is required due to love of family. If you think about it, they may get the odd Brad Pitt cheating on Angelina, but 99% of customers are over 50yo, over weight and drunk. Could you have slept with a fat over 50yo drunk Australian woman when you were 24yo for the $40 yu get so you can feed your kids or get dad the heart operation he needs (or a new cow)?

I personally thnk they have "the moral high ground" in this situation,  and most would jump at th chance to marry of be the full time girfriend of a guy if he could provide

40,000BHT a month plus living epenses so she could send 30,000Bht home. I have personally seen (unknown to her) the receipt for funds she sent (2,500Bht)

the day after I gave a single mother 3,000Bht for the night before. I have never paid for sex in Aus, coz there is welfare and so the only girls that do that job usually have a drug problem, or other issues and look to me like HIV on legs. But here I have slept with a few unmarried mothers that were attractive, honest and willing to do things to support her family,  that I can only respect, not deride.

Your answer is just about the most sensible post I have ever seen on TV, you are spot on. There is no welfare system here and no recourse for the many women dumped by their husbands and literally left holding the baby. You are right, people with none or very little income can starve or die from illnesses which could be treated if only they could afford the medical bills. Like you, I have the greatest respect for the sacrifices these women make and most of them with a smile!

If the police did their job properly this would happen far less frequently.  There needs to be a zero tolerance policy to ban drivers from driving for minor offences and fine them heavily.  Can help alleviate the traffic problem as an added bonus and put more people (albeit the idiots) on public transport.

I would think about what you just said, I doubt whether there's a driver on the planet that's never committed a minor offence! Tachometers controlling driver speed and length of time spent at the wheel is the obvious answer. Speed cameras wouldn't go amiss either. The police in Thailand will never do their job properly btw.

If the police or immigration accepted the report he would be picked up and be put into the immigration center until he could pay his overstay fine and buy a ticket out of the country.

I assume you mean his current entry ended two months not his passport has expired.

Perhaps a better route would be to contact his embassy to find out what assistance they could offer. Some would loan him money to pay the over stay fine and buy a ticket home.

The fine for a two month overstay would be 20,000 baht that could be paid on departure from the country.

Thanks for the reply, it's about what I expected. His passport has indeed expired, but he's probably on overstay as well. Out of interest, what happens if he can't come up with the money, will he be locked up indefinitely?

Ok, ignore this, looks like the gf has contacted the father and is waiting for a phone call.

  4. I have been asked by a friend of a friend about the likely outcome if she goes to the police to report her ex boyfriend because of the following circumstances. He has no money, he's living rough and his passport is 2 months out of date and what concerns her most is that he's not at all well. I don't know this guy and have no sympathy for him, but his ex gf is a very nice, caring person and wants to do the best for him.

  5. I imagine someone has mentioned this before, but unfortunately it's probably buried somewhere. I left Thailand a week ago for 2 months in Europe and followed the signs for Passport control and re-entry permit (yes the same signs are still up), only to find that the re-entry permit desk was no longer adjacent to Passport control. I had to be led outside by a policewoman to the new office which is now next to the book shop and oversized luggage dept, in the check in area, before security, which I had to go through again. Fortunately I had time, but why they can't renew signs, only Buddha knows!

  6. It is becoming increasingly obvious that the establishment is not prepared to accept the result of the EU referendum and are playing for time (with a connivance of Merkel and Co) in order to soften us all up for a second vote to reverse the outcome.

    <snip>

    Utter nonsense.

Quite so. Nigel Farage said in May already that he would demand a second referendum if they lost by a very small margin (like 52-48). And now that they have won by that margin it's suddenly as if they've won by a landslide and "the people" have spoken. It will be interesting to see if all those pro-Brexit voters are still laughing next year, when England will be in a recession and everybody's income will have taken quite a hit.

Instead of getting behind the country and making things work, you "Remain" crowd seem to be hoping the country goes to the dogs just to prove yourselves right. You'd be happy to keep the country in limbo by having referendum after referendum until the remain side won.

This was won on a democratic vote, respect it. Pity the tower isn't big enough to hold you lefty whingers.

Some of us may not have the time to wait for"things to work", it could take years! In the meantime our pensions will have lost around 8% (so far) on currency losses, not to mention our private investments which will likely take a hit twice over. I would hazard a guess that most of the people satisfied with the outcome didn't have a pot to p**s in in the first place!
