You have decided to install an AC that is way oversized so unless it's an inverter then it's not going to run long enough to effectively drop the humidity.

Hi, after a month of operation turns out it's well sized, perhaps a little under. One side of the room is open so we lose a lot of cool air, and the windows on one size let in more heat than I imagined. But all good.

  2. I have some Bose components and wish to use these in a restaurant audio system that has 4 zones, 3 of which will play the same channel of licensed music. I need someone who knows much more than I do about setting up for success with this, I get the feeling I could cock it up pretty easily. Does anyone have any Bangkok contacts who can work flexibly to reuse second hand gear? Not after the guy who can just sell me more stuff.

    TIA

  3. excellent notes and calcs - thanks so much.

for the south facing - all very cheap construction with no film/single pane/solid wall etc..

i'd say the roof unlikely to be insulated also.

will update here how it works out, thanks !

  4. I need some help with sizing correctly for an upstairs top floor room sized 5 m x 4m with a high ceiling. It has large sized windows facing South.

I'd like to get it down to around 23-24C for comfortable working.

What size do you think I should target in an A/C unit?

    TIA

As I live alone, with minimal cooking facilities, I tend to eat the same meals every day.

My carb/protein/fat diet ratio is currently about 57/32/11% (because I am still losing fat off my stomach/love handles).

I eat about 2,000 calories per day now, but my body requirement is up to 3,000 calories, depending on how much cardio I do.

    Breakfast:
    Muesli with kefir milk

    Lunch:
Raw veg salad that I prepare before cycling to work ==> chopped cucumber, cherry tomatoes, sliced lettuce, mint leaves, red cabbage, chopped yellow pepper, pomegranite pips, sunflower seeds, chopped walnuts, ground black pepper, with a probiotic yoghurt poured over the top (very tasty).

    Pomelo slices

CP lean chicken slices (very difficult to find quality lean meat at my location)

    Dinner:
    Tuna or sardines
    Kefir milk
1 small glass of red wine

Green tea, coffee and water throughout the day (2 cups of coffee, no sugar), 2 cups of green tea, 2-3 litres of water

Whey protein drink (sipped throughout the day)

Couple of rice crackers and walnuts as a snack during the day.

A banana or energy drink prior to gym work

At weekends, I have some eggs and a lean chicken meal - courtesy of my hotel.

I make the kefir milk myself every day (thanks to Tropo for advice about this).

Cycle home via the gym (alternate days on weight training and jogging/long run/fast run).

So I cycle about 15 Km every weekday, 25Km on Sunday.  I jog 6Km every other day, plus 1Km fast run every other day.  My weight training is simply to ensure that I don't look too puny in my upper body region - it's making a difference.... slowly!

pretty freakin spot on! well done.

First thing to buy is a large sign to hang on your wall at home. It says.

A boat is a hole in the water you throw money into.

Look at it every day for a fortnight before you decide to go ahead.

Depends what you're looking for, mate has one on the market with outboard 5/6 seater around that price. Fun boat, quite quick with trailer.

PM me if you want more details.

Haha yes I think you're right. pM sent.

Do you already live in/near Krabi?  Can you find someone with some experience to help you inspect prospects etc for a fee maybe.  There are plenty of knowledgable skippers at my local yacht club.  I would start there if I needed some advice.  If you have no experience get some expert advice.  Its not like buying a car.  You don't drown driving a car.  Not usually at least.  Good luck, I wish I had a dink to island hop around Rawai but I haven't grown those balls yet.

Hi, no don't live in a Krabi - BKK. Where your YC?

I'm not sure what your expectation is for that budget. I know a bit. I currently have an aluminium boat for sale with a 4 stroke Suzuki outboard. It is closer to 18 ft than your spec. It is built from Australian plans. I want 700k baht for the boat, motor and galvanized trailer. What you get for that is reliability and a relatively low maintenance package. I'm only selling as I'm needed for family issues "back home". As far as I'm concerned the Thai made fiberglass boats are not made well enough to last a reasonable amount of time. Also the condition of the motor is a big topic on a 2nd hand boat. For 300k all you can consider is 2nd hand. The longtail boats are pretty well made. Some of them get converted to inboard diesel sometimes or a farang will fit them with an outboard. Again, you have a very small budget and will not get much quality for that. If you skimp on quality you will regret it, I promise.

Thanks for the offer! Looks like a great boat there. I think you're right, will def. be pot luck with the motor at my budget, unfortunately can't extend it.

  9. I'm looking at going into partnership to buy a smallish motor boat. Never owned one before, and neither have the other partners. To say we are amateurs is probably Quite accurate.

Looking at a 22-25ft craft and doing all of this for less than 300k THB, to be stored in dry storage, probably Krabi.

Would like to hear opinions on

    • inboard/stern drive vs outboard,
    • service experiences on engines,
    • dry storage experience
    • infrequent marine boat use/reliability issues

    thanks in advance.

  10. Not sure if this belongs here...apologies if it should go somewhere else.

I'm looking at renting a site (land with existing buildings) that needs quite a bit of renovation for a cafe. I am an experienced renovator and manager of contractors - however I have no experience in arranging works here in Thailand. I have heard lots of stories good and bad and am getting ready for a huge challenge. I have a couple of questions:

    1. Does it take long to get permits to build new structures? I need to fast track the whole project to get the doors open, but am trying to understand what a realistic schedule should be.

    2. Anyone have some great stories or contractors to recommend with English comms?

    3. Ok - I know this is TV so please try and keep comments construction :-) - what are you thinking when you read this post....?

    4. Contracting basis - should it always be lump sum? If so, any thoughts on payment stages appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

  11. There used to be one in Sukh Soi 3, now gone. Does anyone know of another?

I read a while back in the story of some arrests made in a local club, there was one located on the 3rd or 4th floor somewhere. But have lost that article. Any help appreciated.

  12. Air con and power steer parts get a hard life here. Engine hrs is a better measure of life here rather than km - a lot of time idling. Watch, you water pump will be next if you haven't changed it already. Quite possibly all normal wear and tear. For the dealt attitude, a few small stones under the valve caps of all four tyres of a few cars in the yard might fix him up:......

  13. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

re question 2: he can default on that payment of the shortfall as well and Toyota then can take him to court. If he shows in court that he doesn't have any money and no income then it will be cleared. I know one person who get rid of his student loan that way. But you may have a bad credit record later and cannot take out a loan anymore yourself, ie any new loan would have to be in the wife's name for example.

But suggest to ask a lawyer for more details on the exact procedure.

what sort of advice is this? i think the OP is asking for how to get out of a situation, not create another.
