  1. Does anyone have any expertise as to whether insurances (car/health etc) are still valid under martial law?

    Why??

Are you planning to have an accident in the near future!!!

Ha ha - well errrrr no however I'm pretty sure that car insurance is not valid in cases of civil war and it maybe the case under martial law. The same for most kinds of insurance. So I'm wondering about - say - I get diagnosed with a serious illness whether I have any net to fall on for example.

  2. OP - what a sad sad sad story. I've always said that it's a tough gig for western wives in Asia. If the tables were turned (Western women overwhelmingly adored by local men) I think that western men would generally deal very poorly with that situation. I have seen bucket load of cases like this over the years, again sadly. WHat's the saying - "Men have two heads, but only enough blood for one?".

Not all married Western men are like this, I think you have seen some posts from others to this effect.

As for superstitions and stories - you can search for meaning however you may never get to the bottom of what some Thai women may say to snare/retain/retrieve a western man.

If your ex has really fallen for a story so "out there" and become so intrigued that he started a relationship with this woman, perhaps in some strange way (future will tell) he has done you a favour - in a gutless way - to show you his respect for you (zero) and respect for his masseuse (priority) all whilst his ego growing without self control.

Many a moral compass has been lost in SE Asia by men mainly, and some women.

Whatever the circumstances for your arrival here - whatever they don't blame them or yourself for agreeing to be here in the first place. Perhaps what you were shown here is a shortcut to a true behaviour that you may have uncovered later in life. Don't also search for meaning - you will possibly only find the waters so murky with lies and crap and cultural differences that try to upscale the plot.

BEst thing you can do is to get yourself a new hair cut, some revenge :), and a new man to respect you much more than the last.

    All the best to you.

  3. I have had recent experience comparing many "Gold Class" plans and local deals. The interesting point is "What are you getting for your premium" so the first thing to decide is how much you want cover for, then whether you need it outside of Thailand as well. Ultimately this is what affects the premium as I guess syou are already aware, and there is a dramatic difference between companies.

I ended up with a policy based out of Hong Kong called "NOW Health" and they were half the price of BUPA, but still offered USD2m per event cover. Be careful and read fine print - a lot of Thai based companies will get you 100,000 THB per event, not much help if you have cancer and there has been a bit of that in my family. I am on my first renewal and must say feel very reassured that where we are we are covered 100% for everything (except non-accident dental - which we assessed as cheap enough in Thailand anyway).

I ended up insuring the family of four for about 6k USD, that is worldwide all countries except US, and full repatriation cover. We are a bit younger than you, but in my book extremely good value and I have to say claim wise they have been brilliant, paying within two weeks or so to any account you nominate. I am a bit younger than yourself, naturally premium is age dependent so yours will be different. However literally the same or very similar cover was double the price with the other major usual suspects.

Not sure if this is useful, if you want any specific contact details pls PM me my contact there was very helpful through the pre-qaul process.

  4. WOW!!!

It always amazes me the amount of Farang that support the PDRC aka yellow shirts in Thailand since most if not all Farang countries are democracries. Do you ever take into consideration the simple and honest fact that Yingluck was ELECTED PM by the majority of Thai people and was run out of office by a minority of people???

Are you all in favor of over throwing democratically elected officials if you don't agree with their policies?? If you do I suggest you go home and do that with your native government instead of siding with a bunch of people who say that poor persons are too stupid to vote and anyone without a bachelors degree should have no say in who is prime minister....Or maybe that's why you've come to Thailand in the first place, you know to keep those young thai whores in the hole.

Don't worry though because the PDRC and Wealthy Thais have no need for Farangs like the poor working class does. Enjoy it while it last. Continue to watch Blue Sky television instead of any free media that shows the MAJORITY of Thais not even including red shirts that want a DEMOCRATIC country.

StLNYC - interesting post. Perhaps you have a theory and can further elaborate on the connection between the PDRC, Farangs, and the Constitutional court that handed their (tough) decision down today? How exactly was the Constitutional court assembled here in Thailand - was that the work of Farangs and PDRC?

To answer your question - and speaking personally - elections should over throw governments when policies are unpopular. These protests were ridiculous and cost lives and THB's. But did they overthrow her? She toughed it out and didn't resign, after all.

Here's a question for you: Do you think Thailand can achieve more with Yingluck or without her as PM?

  5. she was a great PM and really suprised me, i didnt expect she could step up but she did.

her standout and defining moment, apart from her excellent election campaign, was how she handled the protesters. patiently she waited them out, eventually they lost supporters every week and finally there was hardly any left.

compare that to Abhisit and Suthep who gave the order for live ammunition .... and killed almost a hundred.

also the way she dealt with some pretty ugly, fanatical, hate filled opposition groups in the public.... when she responded it was with grace, dignity, unlike the ugliness from her opponents. and im sure some of that will be on display again in the responses to this post.

    anyhow, well done Yingluck....

Surely most of your posts are not genuine, She handled nothing, by keeping out of the limelight gave you the impression she was waiting them out ???

You are now near the biggest wind up merchant, it is not your view-it cannot be because of the lousy government managing. It has to be posting for agro---other things to support my post is --How many topics do you post on---only political ??? why ???-----If the reds shot everyone in the country you would say OK just testing bullets that's all.

Another day, another incoherent hate filled rant!

Sent from my GT-I9300 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Clearly a fishing post so here's a bite - she was utter crap. C'mon, even those that liked her would surely have to say admit that even privately. How does a PM be so good and so great when there is a raging war left un-extinguished in the South that kills at least 10 or so people each week (women, children and police, school teachers) without effort to stop? How does Thailand's best PM rank when the US is about to condemn the country for human rights abuses in regards to human trafficking? Kroist - can't even get a population to wear <deleted>' motorbike helmet let alone stamp out corruption and get the economy singing. Let's not even talk about exploitation.

Probably a lot that happens in Thailand is because some folks here don't realise what potential they have in the country, people and resources - instead are buried in microbureaucratics and settling for crap PM's. Maybe there isn't anything better at the moment - but surely you can't hold her up as a bastion of political savviness just because her her was done up nicely when folks were shouting at her.

Wake up Thailand - you can settle for better than you've had.

  6. Congratulations and all the best for the upcoming birth.

Perhaps the Aus Embassy can assist with some consular advice and connections with the Thai govt, your situation is unique. Regardless - whatever is posted on this site is mainly postulation. Given Thai immigration is highly individual specific for complex cases, you may have some bum steers here only because the individual you end up dealing with has a different view.

Go to immigration if you can and get some advice there if you can pre birth.

All the beast for a safe pending delivery!

  7. Whenever I transfer money from my Kasikorn online I get the OTP one time password too. Sounds like someone has acceess to your online banking. Do you have online banking? If not maybe someone has set it up without you knowing. If they have access to your online banking they can transfer all your money to another account. They just change the mobile phone number registered to your account. If you have a friend, get to an ATM and transfer all your money to their account just to be safe.

It is with absolutely no difficulty that a 10 year old kid can download a keylogger which can start up as a hidden service in windows. It may even look like one of the hundre or more dll files in your system 32 folder....which...by the way, when opened, will delete itself and move to the temporary folder.

    So what?

well, if you have used an internet cafe for banking, every key pressed has been recorded, the webcam snapped a shot of your face, your banking password has been saved...(yeah those are asterisks, but the keys have been logged already anyways.

forgot to say...if you need more security...or you feel like everything you put on an international wire is being scrutinized, go ahead and at least use the onscreen keyboard to enter passwords. you mouseclick on each letter. That sort of helps defy keyloggers.

Such is the sheer weakness of Microsoft Windows. Please use a Live Linux Distro that leaves no traces on the computer...even yours. Small learning curve, but maximum safety.

If you like, look at sites such as AutoIt forum. A simple programming language, that, at one time, was not detected as a virus or script. Now it is.

    Windows is not for banking.

Really fascinating topics - what is your view on Safari/Mac security?

  8. Thank this is the worst joke forum!!

Reminds me of this guy who tragically lost his this arm in a chainsaw accident. Years went by and technology caught up to him so much so that he was able to get a robotic arm that was everything like a human arm, only that it needed to be told what to do. To facilitate this HMI, there was a cosy little microphone built into the arm socket - all the wearer had to do was bend his neck over, talk to the mike and the arm responded flawlessly. This invention was so good it predated Siri with far more accuracy, and won a cache of awards along the way.

So here's this guy now in his 50's and enjoying his new found limbido. He was the pioneering applicant and asked on several occasions to speak to armies of people curious as to how he gets on in life.

At one function, the beers are catching up with him and deciding to break the seal, he heads for the head to see a man about a dog.

As he finishes up pointing Percy at the porcelain, an interesting thing happens. He leans over and says "shake the drops" and his arm starts vibrating like a commercial peanut cleaner. A smile wrenches over his face and as he looks around he says to his arm "Shake it more".

By this time the arm is flapping like a bees wing and he's reaping the rewards and basking in some forthcoming sunshine.

Looking around again he says "shake it harder" - only this time his arm is oscillating like a honeymooners mattress. At once, Percy is snapped off at the base and blood squirts all over the place.

    "Aaaaarghh" he screams, "F#*% me"!

And so they found him lifeless, on the bathroom floor, the first man to have a robotic limb successfully attached, and the first man to have successfully had sex with himself.

  9. HI - a good friend is successfully approaching the end of an adoption process in Ethiopia and will soon have a lovely daughter to bring home to BKK. He has his own company here in BKK, and his lawyer is unsure of visa processes.

From experience, Ethiopians don't need a visa for SIngapore and any processing can be done there (no Thai embassy or consulate in Ethiopia). However, he needs to extend the Non-O facility to his new daughter and is unsure of how to go about it.

I suggested that a visa agent that could help, however beyond that do not know where to start.

Hope to hear some useful suggestions on TV, thanks in advance.
