  1. So Thaiflyer1 was out of country more than 30 days and had no problem. Cool.

Question to OMG: Were you out of country more than 30 days?

It's looking like there's been a lot inconsistency at Jomtien, with guys having to file the TM30 and some not having to file. TiT

Let's try to get one thing clear: All you guys reporting with a TM30 or not, are you all on 1-year extensions?

  2. So far then, it seems that for the extension holder:

Out of country more than 30 days, you have 24 hours from arrival to report on a TM30 form to your home immigration office. I assume it has to be your home office.

Along with the TM30, you need to show a rental contract or statement of residence from the apartment owner, or just a utility bill, as noted above. As well as all the usual photocopies of passport, entry stamp and re-entry permit.

But then the question arises, what has to happen when you might need to stay in Bangkok a night before getting a flight to Udon or wherever.

This is certainly starting to get a bit aggravating.

But since I'm renewing my extension next week, I will try to get as many answers as possible from an IO.

Heard the same thing early last year when I was looking for a place in BKK. I know of two Thai agents who had to get other work because of the lack of farang customers.

  4. Having passed by there several times in the last few weeks, I saw nothing. Same amount of nothing I saw in 2016 and 2015. There's only the hyperbole of the giant signs.

I think technically the law is written as you state, and some immigration offices follow it that way. However, unless things have changed within the past two weeks, Jomtien doesn't follow this practice. Tbey only require the 90-day reports if in country more than 90 days and upon return for international travel (after 89 days).

I recently completed an international trip and my 90-day report date fell in my absence. Upon my return, I did a 90-report during my 12th week after return and all was fine. I have done this many times over the years with no issues.

As for domestic travel, how would they even know you left unless you reported your departure?

    Good to know. Thanks.

Your last statement could be answered by the fact they would know if the Thai hotel did its mandatory reporting of the foreign guest.

  6. A couple of current thread discussions have led me to discover something I did not know. It's the law about reporting one's current address that immigration is enforcing with enthusiasm in some districts. It's not just about reporting your NEW address anymore, it's also about reporting having returned to your continuing address. Does anyone have experience with this newly enforced reporting condition at Jomtien Immigration.

I just signed up for an apartment on the Darkside and the complex owner got me the appropriate immigration receipt for address registration in Jomtien district, which I was told to put inside my passport. Never been told this before. I have an extension based on retirement (which I will renew next week) with the one-year multi-entry re-entry permit expiring on the same date as the extension, as per usual.

    Questions:

    1. If one travels WITHIN Thailand and returns to Pattaya, does the owner have to report me again within 24 hours as having returned to the same address?

    2. If one travels OUTSIDE Thailand and returns to Pattaya, does the apartment owner have to report me again within 24 hours as having returned to the same address?

There are hefty fines for both parties if the address reporting is not done. It's being said that upon returning to Thailand, reporting your address on the Arrival card is not enough and that you have to get your apartment owner to do a new report (TM30?).

I'm a frequent traveller but if the above is correct about reporting every time you return home, this is a whole new level of complication.

  7. On this topic, I had a shock today. Took the morning Sai Tai bus from Pattaya to Bangkok's Sathon Road. I've done this route maybe only a dozen times over a 7-year period and it's always been full, except today. Only 15 passengers, with no westerners except me.

I've done the Pattaya/Bangkok Ekamai round-trip bus easily more than 150 times in that period. The last two years I've seen fewer western foreigners. I used to meet people I knew on this bus. Hasn't happened in a couple of years. I am only guessing that there really are fewer long-term western residents and returning climate refugees.

No, this is not Pattaya bashing, because I will be moving back to Pattaya (Darkside) from southern Vietnam after only three months and a full year in Bangkok.  In Vietnam where I was (still am partly), most of the expats there were former expat residents of Thailand.

So nothing at all like hooters then, thanks for the clarification.

FWIW, the menus for the Hooters joints are online. But not the prices, LOL. Too scary to be published.

I wouldn't even turn my head to look.

I don't even step onto Beach Road. Or pass 2nd Road, for that matter, unless I have a mission in Central Festival. I might have been in a Hooters in Canada 10 or so years ago.

I have fiber installed on the darkside; I'm almost at the end of the lake, between the lake and the Highway.  No complaints, but remember that regardless of which speed you subscribe to, you are only subscribing to DOMESTIC speed.  Just like every other service, your international connections get choked.

    Is it 3BB Fibre?

  11. Anyone hooked up to fibre internet service out Noen Pub Wan, east of the railway bypass road? Hoping it's available out there when I move back to the Darkside later this month.

The good and the bad? Was interested in AIS Fiber as it worked well in Bangkok. But will listen to any other options. Thanks.

  12. Maybe s/he will be along to expand on his/her post. Anyway, the important goal is, having SSCC lights operating so that we can exit Klang and cross Suk at the SSCC junction. Then  either go south to Numchai or NPW in order to get to NPW. But it seems the SSCC lights are non-functioning, in any case.

They were not on on Sat - junction there was still blocked with concrete barriers.

Let's wait till they open the SSCC junction and activate the traffic lights there, it is already a disaster now with only the Klang lights activated.

So, Thailand J has actually not been through that junction since the old days,  more than 2 and a half years ago.

Instead of NPW I prefer to go to Soi Siam, wait for the light when the South bound traffic on Suk is stopped to cross.

When I go from Klang I also stop at the light, wait for the N bound traffic to stop to cross Suk. NEVER try to cross Suk when the traffic is flowing, it is suicidal.

Yeah, the short, sharp, mad merger from NPW into flying southbound traffic certainly was a challenge 24/7. So the lights are working at Soi Siam and Suk again? Excellent. Then one can motor up northbound Suk to the bus station instead of going up to Hwy 7. I'm seriously considering moving back to the Pattaya and the Darkside.

Sure can, but you need to fight the traffic to get across just like the old days !!

Yeah, exciting times, battling speeding mini-trucks, impatient Thai moto riders, south-bound tour buses full of Chinese and motorcycles with no headlights at night.  The good old days, indeed. LOL

and who are you to be concerned about why he wants to know?

lord man you must be bored.

Once the OP expanded on the reason for his question, that got me interested. The bar's FB pages, if it's the one on Buakhao, was updated regularly until early May, then nothing. So it doesn't look good. But it did get good reviews.

  17. I left the Pattaya area a year ago, but up until that time, Friendship was my No. 1 supermarket for years. It was never because of the service in any part of the store. I liked what I could buy there. At first, I put a lot of effort in being friendly and smiling when dealing with staff. Then I just gave up and ignored them as much as they ignored me. The staff were up unresponsive, unhelpful, and sometimes even rude. Friendship was an ironically named supermarket.

  18. I would not want to be on the BTS when they add more stations beyond Sam Rong.  I don't think adding another car to the trains will be enough. Good luck to anyone who has moved out to Bearing or beyond. Or lives along the inner stations such as Phra Khanong or On Nut. or even Odum Suk.

  19. So that's why we waited at each outbound station for 5 or more minutes per station. It was around 5 pm. Fortunately I only had to go to Phra Khanong. Was chatting with a fellow headed to Udom Suk. From Prom Pong to PK, must have taken 30 minutes.
