  1. Horrible. Why was he face down in bed? Died from smoke?

Have often wondered about burglar bars on windows.

Me too. Might keep them out but don't allow you emergency exits.

Nothing about this whole sorry story sounds right, except I remember there was some 80mill property deal scam which might be at the root of it.

A 72 year old guy cheating on his wife? Hmmm...

If I wanted to commit suicide then burning the house down around me would not be on my list of options.

    his

Indeed, always two-sides to every story and that is perhaps why this investigation still continues. Very hard to make a final assessment of this case based on what the police feed the media, Particularly, when you realize, in the end, that dead people tell no lies.

  2. Love or hate him, at least Suthep is not afraid to stay in Thailand and quite possible have to answer to the law in the end unlike the other guy who continues to remain in exile and has absolutely no-intention to answer to no one.

This seems to be one of the key points that resonates with his supporters. He has definitely enriched himself from corruption too in the past and must have amassed enough to live comfortably abroad, even if he can't afford Thaksin's two private jets (one is a spare). He now faces a significant risk of going to prison.

Suthep has declared last night that he will not run. Therefore, since there is no-where to hide in Thailand, Jail is a distinct possibility for his future. However, you would have to wonder if Surat Thani Police will ever enforce the arrest warrant in the end. You must also take into account, on this occasion, that no Police from the South are involved in this crisis as most have been carefully hand-picked from the North.

Also given the difference of opinion between North & South in recent times, the concept of Thailand being divided into seperate states, just to keep the peace, could not be ruled out in the future you would think, that is of course if the Constitution is ever reviewed in the future. Otherwise, we can expect more the same in the Los.

  3. Thailand clearly needs an independent arbitrator, somebody from UN, Martti Ahtisaari for example. He has been as negotiator in Indonesia, in Northern Ireland and in Kosovo. Otherwise, this metronome like tik-tok power game between reds and yellows will go on for many years.

Oh yeah? And you seriously think the xenophobic thais will accept someone coming and telling them what to do? I think you missed the fact that this country is proud of doing stupid things, as long as it is the "Thai way".

Moreover, the use of arbitration has been severely restricted since July 2009. Predominantly the judicial system i.e. the courts, controls most disputes these days.

  4. Protestors look like they have the ultimate weapon now to remove the remaining barricades …”A front end loader”…hand-shakes, hugs and kisses with Police is coming soon ( as stupid as it sounds but true) once they break through to the other side.

  5. so 5 dead now in total.

I'm really interested in all of TV opinions, what u guys think what will happen the next days.

I'm not sure. Before I thought it will be quiet till 5th of December. But well, we saw today and last night it's not.

Now I am confused, if the red's are gone or not. Well....the stadium is empty, but I think and heard there are still many around.

I THINK tonight will be MORE trouble than yesterday....but for the next days, I've no ideas. What do you think?

5th will be quiet - that's pretty much a given. I think Suthep failed to achieve what was called for - if the called for strike goes nowhere I think there will be a second round after HM's birthday.

How nasty it will get will depend on provocateurs and the police/army response. The tear gas kept them at bay - but it was a high level (8) tear gas which is not usually used against civilians (it burns the skin rather than just tears the eyes and minor choking - been a lot of hospitalisations due to that today - Erawan reports 33 out of 46 injuries due to tear gas). Also rubber bullets were starting to be used (according to several reports - not seen any evidence, so maybe/maybe not? - but likely I'd say). I think if there is another hit more will come better prepared - more use of diggers, trucks and buses to remove razor wire and cement blocks with less danger from the gas. Once the barricades are down - it all depends on what orders have been given to the police and troops the other side and how carried away the demonstrators are by that point.

Strangely, if they find the PM has taken a flight out, then it may calm things - as it will be seen as a minor victory by Suthep's people. Not sure if that will stop the second wave though - I think not.

What's it they used to say during the war - early 40s? "It'll all be over by Christmas"

I think the best result for Suthep, though not what he wants, is an early new year election (or spring election with stone clad agreement from government to not re-raise the amnesty or senatorial bills).

I think the best result for Yingluck is that they all go home on the 4th and don't come back - although that's probably unlikely.

About the strike : if tomorrow my accountant is not at the office at 9 am and goes on strike (she already told me last week she wont be there for 2 days to go rally and i agreed to let her go) she will be fired..she has been warned yesterday and today.

And no i m not a pro thaksin, neither i pay her minimum wage (30k a month)

I presume your accountant works for private firm and not the government so there would be no need to be concerned.

  6. So he pleads guilty and as such his sentence will be halved 12.5 yrs. Good behaviour and he could be out in 5.

    Didn't read the OP?

He has already pled guilty and has been sentenced already to 25 years...

He should/could have had the death penalty but because of his guitly plea got his half sentence..=25 years...no 12.5yrs involved facepalm.gif

However, he no doubt has the right to appeal the sentence one would imagine, if he chooses to to do so.xunsure.png.pagespeed.ic.E7Vo3qsmeC.png

  7. Sure, let them build their own schools. They'll be funded by the islamic version of God botherers and teach intolerance.

Just what we need over our northern borders, ey Chooka?

Irrespective of Australia building schools for Indonesia does not mean Australia will have any control over the curriculum taught in the end otherwise the same result is likely to occur as in the Southern Thailand where Thai teachers become the target of separatist’s.

  8. Not quite sure what his game plan is at this stage but he certainly seems to be going for broke.

If the government does not buckle with the Ministries closed today then maybe they will have to resort to an old effective trick by closing down the ‘Airport’…Suthep has limited time so he will have to use whatever effective measures known him to bring about a quick end to this issue.

  9. Tony Abbott refuses to commit to spy code of ethics, flags security round table

    November 27, 2013 - 12:32PM

Prime Minister Tony Abbott has declined to immediately commit to the spying code of ethics demanded by Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, but suggested a ''security round table'' be established so both nations could be more open with each other and build greater mutual trust.

Addressing reporters in Melbourne on Wednesday, Mr Abbott said he would take time to reflect on the statement made by the Indonesian President on Tuesday night, before ''trusted envoys'' would meet to work through the issues.

The Prime Minister said he wanted to strengthen co-operation on combating bilateral issues such as counter-terrorism and people smuggling, but would not comment on the operational details of intelligence matters.

Mr Abbott said he wanted to bring ''something positive'' out of the recent tensions between the two countries, which followed revelations Australia had tapped the mobile phones of Dr Yudhoyono, his wife and senior ministers in 2009.

''Obviously, that relationship does depend on a great deal of intelligence sharing,'' he said. ''I want to deepen and extend that in the weeks and months ahead.''

  10. The Nation - breakingnews-Suthep calls for people to seize all ministries on Wednesday

    November 26, 2013 9:06 pm

Rally leader Suthep Thaugsuban announced Tuesday night that protesters would seize all ministries tomorrow so that they could not function as a plan to overthrow Thaksin’s regime.

Suthep said the government’s authority became invalid after the government refused to accept ruling and power of the Constitutional Court.

Suthep proposed all provincial governors to be elected like Bangkok’s instead of being appointed by Interior Minister.

"I don’t want to be a prime minister. I fight for the country not for myself and I did not fight so that Khun Abhisit became a premier.

Suthep said the protesters could seize government offices like Finance Ministry and Budget Bureau without violence.

He added the protesters and Bangkokians should siege all ministries and those in other provinces should seize the City Hall.

  11. I guess Thailand wouldn't mind less Australians going to Bali.

Indonesia think's, Australians perception of Indonesia are only the three 'B's; Boats, Beef & Bali. So maybe 'Bali' is next on the list of punishment measures. preventing Australians from visiting there, since this is the perception of the SBY spit the dummy team.

Nope, it's beef, they are now applying additional pressure by considering cutting back on importing Australian beef stock. Wonder how many screams/pressure from the Australian beef industry this will create. Maybe switch to India or Brazil. Off topic but not many people know Brazil has a reasonable presence in the Australian meat processing industry.

    http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/20028991/indonesia-considering-cutting-australian-beef-imports-in-wake-of-spying-scandal/

As I indicated earlier, Australia needs Indonesia, a dam_n sight more than the reverse

Indeed, we know its Beef based on todays news reports and we know Katter & Joyce amongst others will be kicking the drovers dog over this but presumably Bali could not ruled out too in the future given it's popularity over the years to Australians.

    The three B's were discussed on ABC Q&A program as mentioned in The Australian, Sept 21st 2013;

'The term "Beef, Boats and Bali" was coined on the recent ABC Q&A program was filmed live in Jakarta. It was a phrase that did in a way summarise how many Australians see our relationship with Indonesia; a relationship built upon misperceptions, fear and a narrow community mindset trapped in a 20-year-old time Warp'.

  13. The Kompas poll, published on Monday :

89 per cent of people support Australia being given a "harsh warning", while 39 per cent of people want further cuts to diplomatic ties.

The poll also showed 7.6 per cent of people would support some sort of military action, while an overwhelming majority of 91.5 per cent were against such a move.

63 per cent of people agree with the decision to recall ambassador Nadjib Riphat Kesoema from Canberra.

Military action, Indonesia would probably overrun Australia in 10 minutes. Much larger and more powerful military than Australia.

Run over ? Australia by its sheer land mass alone makes it almost impossible to run over. Any country trying to do so would be foolish to say the least.

Moreover, Australia also has the ultimate secret-weapon, elusive, undetectable and in sizeable quantities, lining the whole northern coast of Australia …CROCODILES ! …which are known to be very easy to underestimate their capability.
