  1. Same question, different issue. I may also lose my UK address (my sister's) next year. It's useful for showing proof to the bank of residence and other financial services but I receive their monthly statements electronically anyway. I'm more concerned about how it would change my status vis the Inland Revenue and my claim to UK residency, tbh, esp. in view of when I have to ask for a new passport. In fact, I have permanent residency in Spain but I am not a citizen. Bit worried about not having any real claim to proper citizenship. Any advice much appreciated.
  2. Looking to do a border run via mini bus (or ferry to Langkawi) from Koh Lanta in mid Feb. Any info appreciated. TIA
  3. I do not plan to renew the visa when it expires in Feb. 2025. Am I required to notify the authorities or is it just a case of leaving on the final day of its validity? If so, can I travel to a neighbouring country and come back in on a Tourist Visa Exemption Scheme?
  4. A truly remarkable and very distinguished character who went by the name of "Tiger" (surname Fleming, I think) died at the age of 99 sometime in the latter months of 2022. He had been a CM resident (City View Tower Condo) for many, many years but I have not been able to find any info about him or his obituary anywhere. He was British. Curious to know if anyone knew him...
  5. I live near Warorot Market and have to get to the airport by around 12:00 on Monday. Being the peak of Songkran, I'm wondering about the availability of Grab/songthaews/taxis as well as the best route to get there as expect gridlock around the moat (tho perhaps that is not an issue till afternoon). Advice please and/or contact details for a taxi I can book in advance.
  6. The mechanic in Krabi is trying to sell the car on my behalf. I have already sent him all the paperwork required such as copies of passport and visa etc. Now he tells me my visa is out of date, but it isn't; I only renewed it for another year in January. Am wondering whether to approach the police here on Koh Lanta (tourist police or directly, Traffic cops) for further guidance as I just want to make sure it's either properly sold or scrapped so that I am no longer responsible for it. I have also asked for some kind of document confirming the sale. At some point, I have to inform my insurance company that it is no longer on the road, too, I imagine...
  7. It's too expensive to fix my old car (1994 Nissan NV, engine needs replacing) so I had it towed by my breakdown service to a garage in Krabi. The blue book is in it. I told the mechanic that I would not repair it and to scrap it and that he could keep anything he made from selling parts. My mechanic in Chiang Mai says you don't need to do any special paperwork when scrapping a car - all you need is to have its blue book. Who else - if anyone - do I need to inform (the Roads Dept., my insurer etc.)? Is there anything else to bear in mind? Thank you
  8. I bought my car and got my license (a trade-in for my EU license) in 2014. My license expires next November. Since I am now on a "retirement visa", will I be able to renew it?
  9. Thank you for the helpful answers, have a good day.
  10. Where can I buy foam like the one shown in the pic? Quite dense, ideal for making cushions etc.
  11. I've had an account at Bangkok Bank (unnamed very downtown branch) for years. Over that time, the service has gone from respectful and welcoming to indifferent and now simply disdainful. So I'm wondering whether to a) change my account to a different branch or b) switch to a different bank (KTB or SCB) at which I already hold an account and where customers are treated in a more fitting way. However, I believe that when it comes to receiving payment from abroad for the purpose of visa extensions etc. Bangkok Bank is the clearing house through which all international payments are channeled. Is this the case and, if so, is it wisest to stick with them albeit a different branch? Any pointers? In addition, are there are banks, or specific branches, where you feel the customer service is exemplary?
  12. https://aqicn.org/city/chiang-mai/ shows readings in the 150 range today, Oct. 18. Earlier than expected? What is going on?
  13. As confirmed by you experts, on check-in in Europe I was indeed asked (by Qatar) for a return within the 30-day exempt entrance method I chose to enter even tho' my actual return with Qatar was for March 2023. Fortunately, I had bought a ticket via onwardticket.com. Issue solved. Thank you so much
  14. So, if Qatar request one, even tho my return is with them in March, I may need an onward ticket with another airline within the 30 days?
  15. I arrive on Sept.30 and have a return ticket booked for mid-March. I intend to enter visa exempt then do border runs or a visa run from a neighbouring country once my 30+30 days are up. Do I need an onward ticket that is earlier than that as a precaution to show at border control when I arrive in BKK? If so, what date should I choose?
