  1. Relating to madmitches comment in F1 thread joking this underpass being a great part of F1 circuit..

Hypothetically ......if F1 could use this road never happen, but?

Here are some guestimates [and fairly close at that]
I figure the tunnel at Monte Carlo to be about 400-500 metres long and the F1 cars go through it in about 4-5 seconds secs..

That would be 100m/s eg 360km/h. The F1 cars don't drive that fast in the high down force circuit like Monaco (and they are not allowed to use DRS on that spot). 70 meters per second would be closer to the real speed smile.png

Ok.thanks...minor point,... was more about the time through Central ''tunnel''....i watched the time on video replay and was about 4-5 seconds.and a guestimation of length of tunnel at Monte off a diagram gave me ''about 4-500 meters....[cant find any info on the actual length of it]..OK , say 250kph[70 m/sec] makes it about 280-350 meters long...

The point is its still even at 250kph a 4-5 second tunnel.

Our own hyperthetical central tunnel at the same 250kph is still only a 5/10 sec tunnel..blink again and you still miss it...

Apply this to the Central underpass
A F1 car will go through this one at the same speed as above will take about 4/10-5/10 second..[blink and you miss it} Edit..based on a very doable 300kph on this straight part of the hyperthetical track....
I'm hoping those of you who don't agree with this will be intelligent enough to prove me wrong [or right] I will unreservably appologise and correct this guestimate if i got it wrong.
    Sorry ,but it interests me...wink.png
  3. High comedy...Of course it will never happen, but still begs the question of where the best location for it in Phuket would be. I'd say Koh Sireh would be an interesting candidate...Saphan Hin has had small-scale races before, but is way too small for an F1 circuit. I don't know of a single Thai who has any real interest in F1, so I guess it's all about the parallel religion here: tourism promotion.

I thought they would already have the Central Underpass earmarked as Phuket's equivalent of the tunnel at Monte Carlo.

That would be great but let me refer you back to the 'central underpass thread and see the info...you may be surprised...smile.png

  4. ridiculous .... they only know violence in this country ? next to my house 3 weeks ago a guy came with a gun and try to kill his sister for money issues ... police came and caught the guy ..... Amazing Thailand

And nothing like this ever happens in the rest of the world, no violent crimes in the US, UK or Europe?

    NO cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

HUH??? "Police have charged the dead Mr Phonthakorn for the murder of Mr Piboon". and why?? to close the case?? methinks more investigation is necessary, appears to be a case that needs weeks and weeks of investigative sciences to determine who killed who, or who committed suicide.........meanwhile BIB confiscate the land and whatnot in question as evidence.......

Mate, its all there in black and white if you care to look properly

Amazing display of inability for many posters to read the info provided, before ''foot-in-mouth'' type posting...this is just one more example..sad.png

  5. Sorry to Hijack - BUT what about the new Mosque -esqe looking place on the road from Patong to Kata?

Is it a restaurant? How the hell did they get permission to build that thing??

    Oh wait.........

Stopped and had a look inside lastnight..a couple of workers but no communication of what it is.

I don't have any time at all for the crazy radical muslims and their beliefs, but their architecture is really something amazing IMO and this place is no exception....the design and finish is first class...beautiful.

    ..

Anyway on leaving i look up on the outside ,both left and right of the giant entry doors and there are some carved wood exterior light fittings.

Carved into them says ''Baray Villa'']..

Isn't there a same name place in Kata?

  6. It's because of the price of eggs <--- Blame them wink.png

price up everywhere but not phuket town wow...

    They will follow eventually !!

or low season, less people buying, let's put the price up 555

Nothing at all to do with low season,IMO

Obviously you yourself dont go and buy the groceries.

Everything has been increasing [inflation maybe] but lately more and more increases over the full range are very noticable every time we shop.

I really feel for the average Thai workers..the increasing costs of staple foods must make things very hard for them

  7. come on how to design n build a "proper" track / facilities in 2 years

The same as Monaco does, or Singapore it's called a Street Circuit!

I have a feeling that the standards of streets in Monaco and Singapore are a wee bit higher standard than most on Phuket...smile.png

  8. Where were the two potential buyers Paiboon brought with him?

The whole story in this paper does not make sense, also the link to the bank is missing.

The bank according to ''not to be mentioned'' site is Krungsri Bank [complete with action photos at the scene]

PN above report shows Bank of Ayudhya..how wrong can they get it all? unsure.png

OOps i got it wrong mate tells me its the new name.., i dont know for sure but building looks same in both sites.....

PN must have used old stock photo......wub.png

  9. Once again...the site that can not be mentioned has a different story, they say it was a murder-suicide and once again , i believe that that site has it right.

.PN needs to re check its info before releasing it..its near always flawed

The 60 yo guy is actually 50 yo[have a pic of his ID card on line]

A shocked Phuket bank manager looked on today as one customer stabbed another customer then killed himself with the same knife.

The murder-suicide took place in the conference room of the Krungsri Bank in Poonpol, Phuket City, soon after the three men kept their noon appointment.

First to die was Piboon Vachwanichsanong, 71, who owed money to the man who killed him.

Wielding the knife was Ponthakorn Treerabenjakul, 50, who had sought replayment of a loan to Khun Piboon.

  10. If the road has a traffic problem and the project has a money problem solve both in one hit...

Charge traffic for using the road until the funds are sufficient ...

The BRAINS at PEA should have thought of this already, not?

"long-awaited plan to bury the power cables running along Patong’s sea front road, Thaweewong Rd, "

The project is about putting unsightly cables underground, not about ''a traffic problem'' smile.png

A ''traffic problem ''will for sure come about as a result of the project...but at present is not so [apart from parking ,taxiis,tuk-tuks and rentals takeover of all spare spaces..which is another seperate problem altogether]

  11. As quoted in the article;

The planners hope to use money from the 2014 budget, which takes effect in October, to start construction this year

So, i read it that the money will be available in October, and the construction will start ''this year''..meaning, i presume , after October..

Brilliant...what happens at that time of year?

Oh yes , thats about the start of ''high season''...great time to start work on probably the most used stretch of real estate in Patong....the mind boggles at the actions of these clowns...really does..w00t.gif crazy does not describe it enough.

  12. Those sprouting the abilities of Italthai...take a road trip up to Nathai and have a look at the pier built by them a few years back. It is currently under repair as several sections have fallen into the sea.

Haven't seen any evidence of sprouting of the outfit, and i've no knowledge of their operations at all apart from what i posted earlier, but one thing is for sure

For any construction company to be in operation more than 50 years has to point to them being rather successful, wouldn't you think? rolleyes.gif

  13. Alright.

I have watched this project closely over the last few months. This is my new call.

The tunnel will NEVER be completed:

    • Missapropriation of project funds
    • Inability to solve water ingress problems within the tunnel
    • Wet season flooding
    • Collapse
    • Unsafe for use due to poor cement and structural integrity
The end result will be a large and rather embrassing fish pond.
So far it looks like you are wrong. Even stronger, the forecast is the tunnel will be opened way before the planned completion date.

Was there today at 08.00 coming from the North, could drive all the way through to the lights with only about 10 cars in front of me.

The tunnel might be opened earlier than we expected but the project is not completed at that point as they will be closing the roads around it to complete the work in stages. The two years is for the entire underpass project, not just the tunnel.
The only planned tunnel is through the hill under/near Kathu and wont even start before 2014 last time i heard.

So.....how does the underpass pass the Patong to Phuket Town road?

Flyover? No. With a tunnel? Yes.

The answer to your second question is found in your first....u-n-d-e-r-p-a-s-s.......as opposed to an overpass[flyover] or a tunnel.

I was in the civil construction industry some 25 years and to us when a tunnel is constructed it is '' defined as underground passages driven through the ground without disturbing the overlying soil or rock using blasting or nowadays more common a TBM [tunnel boring machine] and shoring up with a concrete layer for stability''...That is the industry definition of a tunnel.

Relate to the proposed ''tunnel'' which is planned under Kathu hill.....It really is a tunnel, using a TBM to construct...

    .

An underpass is simply a road excavated to a depth suitable for the passage of [usually vehicals ]to continue on under the cross road [similar to a bridge construction] to be built over it..ie doing away with a same level intersection for hopefully unimpeded cross traffic flow [as is the case here.]

In reality it is exactly the same function as an overpass, but in some circumstances an underpass is preferable to an overpass and vica-versa.

Talking to some people just now about this and OK i can see the layman calling an underpass a tunnel ...so we can agree to disagree on the terminology smile.png
