OK this is a good post for me as I have not heard about this before and I have a year before I get my UK state pension and like to be prepared. I want to ask

who is eligible to countersign the form?

It is listed on the paperwork who is eligible to sign.

Definitely not in the TM30 context, which pertains to a police state.

Registering one's whereabouts are required in many countries. I travel to Europe every summer for an extended period. As I will stay for more than 90 days in a holiday flat I'm required to register with the local authority with a form signed by the landlord. When I leave I have to cancel the registration. When I travel I have to fill and sign a form giving my home address plus pers. details at every hotel.

Rules exist everywhere not just in Thailand. Live with it.

    Me and everyone else.

As I think my fall was mechanical, I am considering switching from my beloved beach resort SANDALS to something more sturdy like sneakers.

Do balancing exercises and you will be more steady on your feet.

Stand on one leg when brushing your teeth e.g. Learn Aikido. You learn balance and how to fall. My husband started at 72.

Keep physically fit, you recover quicker from a fall.

An omen of things to come for Thailand?

Buy yourself some earplugs...buy a headset for your cell phone...

He likely has an allergic reaction to Bangkok air pollution...not going to go away...maybe you "should" consider moving...peace and quiet are worth the discomfort of making the transition...good luck!

Chinese tend to do this. This is why they have spitoons.  They also spit around our pool. Luckily, they never stay long as it is a serviced apt.

Yep, grab is much better for avoiding the thugs that drive these taxis.

And Grab Taxi costs more and is driven by the same "thug" you want to avoid. Difference is a higher fare for Grab. I've not had an experience bad enough to pay warrant the surcharge for a Grab vehicle. I've been here for 15 yrs. My "Grab" attempts ended in time waste as the guys always cancelled due to more a more worthwhile trip like airport rather than Ploenchit-Surasak. I flag down a car when I need one. No unnecessary waiting.

You would need to contact your pension provider and talk it through, and/or set up an e-mail contact agreement with them. A request - usually an unfriendly demand - for proof of life is common and could be issued annually or longer depending on the provider.

Certainly, in the UK, these provider's staff contacts think everyone lives there and their comprehension that many pensioners retire to other countries, and are therefore less contactable, is very poor.

This life cert. comes every 2 yrs in my case, around about February. You can call them if you suspect you didn't get one. They will tell you what the case is. If you didn't receive it, you can arrange one by email. But they will not automatically email this form.

Certification cost me 4000 THB by a legal office in Bkk. Maybe there are cheaper options. If they stopped your pension due to missing cert. they back pay quickly. I always received helpful and friendky service from DHS.

He was ordered to be locked up in a room by a private company (BFS looks like the airport management company)

I wouldn't let a private company lock me up in a room.

This is the government form they use to inform people that they are denied entry. To be valid it does of course have to be signed by an Immigration Officer. So if this is the only paper they gave him, your friend was never legally ordered to leave Thailand.

BFS = Bangkok Flight Service. It is a services company.

Because its in print, it may not necessarily be so.... even more so when quoting clumsily written news articles in Thailand which are never proof read.

Its quite likely that what is really meant is that the flight originated in Singapore and the article therefore mistaken lends us to believe the lady in question is Singaporean.

Malays have often the same/similar names. They are Muslims and share some of the Arabic culture together with the religion.

I can advise you to check with Finnair, so you will get a stopover in Helsinki, which is ok for a flight-change. The flight schedule usually is good, and not too much waiting for the connecting flight.

The still pretty new A350 has a comfortable configuration for business class, and the airplane as well as the service overall is top notch. There are only 4 business-class seats in one row, so plenty of space.

Finnair has a business-class special from time to time (around 80'000 Baht). If you manage to get one of those, it is a very good deal.

Finnair has no high rating. Food is not very appealing and of poor quality. HEL airport is mayhem, long queues, no fasttrack, overcrowded lounges. Within Europe planes are old, and business class is nothing but 3 seats for 2 pax. Look at or Omanair. Omanair has comfy seats.

Most European banks let anybody open a bank account without all that "hanky panky" of the Thai banks.
Thailand has a long way to go to get out of their 3rd world image.

Opening an account in Europe has become a lot more difficult, and it has become more bureaucratic. They first question you why you want an account with them. They need tax no., proof of money source etc. when you are a newcomer.

I have lived in the 3 countries, Malaysia, Indonesia & Thailand.

I do prefer it here in Thailand to live.

In everyday life Malaysia being a Muslim State once the present Mr M passes on will become more so as he is desperately trying to keep a balance.

In Indonesia I never feel the influence so much & is not a Muslim state although Aceh is a

    place to be avoided.

Bangkok & upcountry will do me

Move to Penang and you will have bacon.
