Queensland Times somehow has a far better account of the event than Reuters. Sounds like a case of escalating humiliation for the guy. I would be interested to hear his side of the story before they string him up.

Odd detail: apparently the ex-girlfriend was sleeping with her new boyfriend in the family home (they were shot together in bed). Call me old-fashioned but that sounds a bit degenerate to me.

Austria doesn't "string up" people. He may go to jail and into psychiatric care.

    And... greetings from Kitzbuehl.

For an extension of stay based upon marriage there is no allowance for a parent to get an extension.

The police order only allows an extension for children.  From clause 2.18 of the police order.

"(4) In the case of children, adopted children, or spouse's children, said children, adopted children, or spouse's children must not be married, must live with the alien as part of the family, and must not be over 20 years of age except in case of the person hereof is of illness or disability and cannot live without support of father or mother:"

For an extension based upon retirement and others under clause 2.20 of the police order that is for family member to get extensions it is allowed. "(5) In the case of parents, the father or mother must be 50 years of age or over."

    I accept what you say.

However, a friend of mine piggybacks on her son: he was married to a Thai, has 2 adult kids.

At first both his parents piggybacked, now it is just his mother. She has been here for 12 years.

    May be rules changed?

Totally disagree - taxi drivers are mostly hard working members of society and provide a legal and reliable service at a very low cost to passenger.  Have been using since 1969 and have only had a handful of negative experiences, non serious and non costing more than a normal tip in a western country.

    Agree 100%

  4. I came here in 2004. Intention was to stay for one year to see if retirement in Bangkok would be an option. My husband continued working in Cambodia. He retired in 2014, joined me in Bangkok. We have been considering to return to Europe, had a 6 month holiday in Austria last year, enjoyed the super summer, swimming in the lakes, food etc. Then autumn started and we were happy to fly out on 1 Nov.

It had become cold, grey sky, short days. We missed easy access to a gym, weather plus small conveniences like just hailing a taxi, frequent BTS if needed instead of waiting for a bus in the cold and rain. A big plus for Thailand is easy access to medical service instead of waiting weeks for an appointment.

Life here is easygoing, cheerful faces, helpful people, no aggression.

All adds to a pleasant life which keeps you young at heart and mind. If you can afford to stay, stay in Thailand.

See www.integrity-legal.com or search for many videos about expats insurance and other matters.  Suggest you reconsider your relocating as the 500,000 baht per year won't get you here.  Yes, if you were here you could 'exist' on your budget but without enough income to start with you may never be able to get a retirement visa.  Suggest a couple of long term tourist visits to talk with local expats and get to up to date information first hand.

Op can apply for non-imm O multi entry and doesn't need 800.000 in a local bank. Only downside is that he needs to leave every 90 days.

Really? Another denier? She gives us all hope. 'nuff said.

She enjoys publicity just like the attending politicians. If they were serious they would have travelled on commercial flights.

5 Germans travelled on 4 govt. flights. Merkel didn't even want her defence minister on the flight with her. This shows how serious they are about carbon footprints.

Hardly, the worst nightmare is remaining in the EU whilst Germany sinks into recession, and the Italian banks collapse, and the British public are left having to pay for it like Germany did for Greece:

This statement comes from someone who is clueless.

British public to pay for collapsing Italian banks?

May be British bankers made bad investments. Who knows. Then go and complain to your bankers, not blame EU. And Germany never paid for Greece.

Do you know that Britain does not belong to Euro area. Therefore, they are not affected by bad Euro loans to defaulting countries.

  8. I agree this saga is a rather sad one from beginning to end.

Tiger breeding doesn't just happen in Asia but also smack in the middle of the EU. 2 cubs were rescued from a woman in Vienna. She was "fostering" them and kept them in a bath tub. Origin is a breeding station somewhere nr. Bratislava. Apparently, the animals are being bread for sale as pets.

I have not read about any action to close this centre.

Bad things don't just happen in Thailand.

In the past people were getting a income letter showing a small income from their embassy for proof they are retired.
Some have also done a statement that hey are retired at the embassy.
It think the consulates in Penang and Savannakhet have gotten a bit more flexible now for the proof of retirement.

British Embassy doesn't provide any proof of retirement

That's correct. However, Brits get a letter from Work&Pensions every year about increase or no increase of pension. Germans send a similar letter. This is accepted as proof of retirement at the Thai consulate back home. Finance is another proof e.g. bank statement.

The EU would be well aware the current government is still the same old junta with the same old leader trying to disguise itself as a democracy.

One of the things the EU doesn't like about Thailand is it's human rights record. This story yesterday about human trafficking and unpaid wages won't help their cause.........nor should it.

    Won't they ever learn.

EU also trades with China. Their biggest market. Never mind human rights. Thailand is chicken feed in comparison.
