For all the criticism, demonstrations, and obstruction the Democrats have made of the registration and election process, and to the Government's insistence on seeing the election process proceeding, is there any doubt that if it was Suthep's Government instead that he would use every violent means available to conduct the elections? And blame any injuries on the opposition? I think so.

Good for Srichaphan. Sometimes you have too many professional politicians who have led dubious ethical careers. I wish Srichaphan all the best to bring fresh ideas and ethical convictions to Thai politics. If elected, he might even start voting.

“We were unaware that Mr Jirayus was coming to register for the election." So what, the polls are open for registration, it's not like seeing the doctor. Where does Kittipong get off being told anything, so he can have the candidate ambushed and blocked from registering, or worse? What is he, the anti-election police?

EC wants to mainly use civil space for election registration, noting that using army or police premises could lead to losses. So losses in civil space is acceptable because police will safely withdraw out of harm's way. But if held on army or police premises, the army or police might have to stand their ground and get hurt or hurt demonstrators? Thai voters have a constitutional right to vote in these elections and the Government should see to its responsibility to protect those voters and registrants. To walk away is to concede democracy.

Substantial alcohol consumption causes rapid body heat loss through constriction of surface blood vessels and if you're in subfreezing temperatures with inadequate clothing, you'll suffer low heart pressure with possible death. Even Alaskan natives, ie., Eskimoes, die from such effects. Given the moderate Thailand winter temperatures I don't see this typically happening.

Stricly from a constitutional law viewpoint, EC seems to be completely useless. They seem to be the authority on the election process but it couldn't tell Yingluck whether it was constitutional to delay the elections - so she didn't; Yingluck is told it didn't know if it was constitutional for her to resign as interim prime minister - so she didn't. Now with regard to election results possibly producing fewer than the required minimum of 95 percent of House members, the EC "will assess the situation and make their decision (PM resignation) when the time is right." Then follows up with "Under the current election law, there is no clause to break this "deadlock." !! So does this mean according to the Constitution (directly or by estoppel), elections will just continue to be held until the 95 percent rule is met? Maybe an HRM ruling might clarify options available other than a deadlock?

The US offers only encouragement but did not make any formal steps to remove Thailand from second-tier watch list. So Thailand is still on the hook for proving itself and that effort has to demonstrate irrevocable actions in its national policies. Sothere must be more than Thai government platitudes. time will tell.

Such a tourist fee would be a disappointment as it's something you see done typically in fourth world countries like the Dominican Republic. I think it demeans Thailand as a moden country. That said, in the US taxing foreigners even by cities is a common practice for things they may never benefit from like a cruise line passenger tax for a new NFL stadium or performing arts center. Thais at least have their heart in the right place. But you know that once a tax is in place, it's tempting to increase it without good cause.

You should check out strapless heart rate monitors like the Mio Sports SD. Much more convenient but you may have to order it.

The Democratic Party saw the Phra Viharn Temple issue as leverage to gain back political power, forcing the issue into the International Court and embarassing the Yingluck administration. Thailand lost the ruling (as could have been predicted) and now Thailand needs to show the world community through its leadership that it is a mature, democratic nation capable of respecting the rule of law.

Treason charge against Democrat party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and former Surat Thani MP Suthep Thuagsuban were long overdue. Abhisit's illegitimate government was a coup engineered by the army and he maintained that government up to the point of almost outright civil war by Thais to restore an electorial government representing their needs. Continuing to make former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra the boogieman is just a political diversion.

Democrats say they will focus on the PM and Thaksin in no-confidence debate late this month
Why are Democrats so fixated on Thaskin who is not even in Thailand, much less not a even member of the Government? Their fear spoils their integrity.- 2

I think Pakistan currently represents the Asis-Pacific Group so I don't think Thailand would be any less qualified as a non-permanent member. But Thailand would have strong competition from countries like India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philipines and Australia if they wanted nomination. Bangladesh and Mynamar might make interesting nominees. If consensus building is key to selection, Thailand would seem somewhat alienated.

You are a thai citizen yes? If you are a foreigner last I heard you cannot own land even if married to a thai. In which case you are just giving the current owner free money and you will not get it back.
NSA intercepts data on Thailand and neighbouring countries
in Thailand News

I am glad for the clarification that Asia includes Thailand and neighbouring countries. That's real news. Some positive notes about NSA data collection: no country is left untouched and it helps US employment. And the countries that cry foul the loudest are the ones that most envy NSA's abilities compared to their own.
