  1. Didn't really want to go into how i managed to do it but seems i must .............. i was on my last 30 days of my non "0" visa and was gonna squeeze the extra 90 days by leaving and coming back before the visa runs out, now what I did was mix up the Visa expire date with the date stamp, hope that clears that up :) basically at some point i had read the dates on my visa and mistaken that for my stamp date, silly thing to do i know and i wont make that mistake again, I know it was a very silly thing to do ect ect but things like this do happen hence my question.

  2. speaking from experience I was told to go to police station and they will do new one which they did, took about 10 mins and I'm not sure but I think I paid 100 baht.

Did you had a (full) copy from your departure card?

If not then you will indeed mostly asked for a police report when applying for a long stay extension.

no I had my passport thats it gave it to them they they then rewrote a new arrival card and departure stapled my new one in the passport and i paid the money.

  3. can anyone tell me if these bans are flexible or applied regardless ? The reason I ask is last year i read the wrong stamp on my passport and overstayed by one month,i had no idea i had read it wrong until i was trying to do my normal 3 month border run,so paid the overstay fine which they gave me even though they could see i obviously had made a mistake, who is gonna overstay a valid visa on purpose checking my passport for visa's and stamps could have easily shown it was an honest mistake. Any way the point im making is what happens if anyone makes an honest mistake like i did are we now gonna get banned from seeing our family's for a few weeks overstay ? common sense should play a role here but its Thailand so wont hold my breath on that one.

  4. Ok, I get it now. One other question, the consulate website has 2 forms - an Affidavit and a Notice of Marriage. So I need to type out and print both of these, and take to the embassy ?

This is the page I'm looking at with sample forms : http://www.british-consulate.org/marriage-abroad.html

there are lots of different ones heres another from British Embassy in Bangkok http://www.british-consulate.org/british-embassy-thailand.html and a couple more...

    http://www.ukthaivisa.com/other/affirmation-of-freedom-to-marry

    http://www.baanlaanta.com/facilities/weddings/sample-letter-of-affirmation-for-marriage

neither of these are what I used about 6 months ago smile.png

as for the affidavit one I'm pretty sure they gave it to me at the consulate but DL it and print it off anyway just in case smile.png

  5. Umm.

So to sum up I'm in Bangkok , with non O never reported.

    Need doctors cert,

    Letter from embassy 3K

Then down to transport office ?

But before I went to immigration and asked for residency letter and got it,

That was 4.5 yrs ago and in udon,

Thinking now to go and get a yellow book,

That can't be that diff , can it ?

yellow book will do it so i'm told

    doctors cert need

letter from embassy need (unless yellow book) also if you get the letter it needs translating to Thai and official stamp at immigration

also International driving license unless you want to do all the tests

    passport need

    then to transport office

personally if immigration is pretty close to you id go there first and see if they give you letter, no harm trying (thats what i did) no luck for me though 500 baht as opposed to to 3080baht is quite a saving :)

  6. So many conflicting views of what should be a simple procedure from which I can only conclude that you can have a different experience depending on where you are. I'm 2 months into my non im o visa by marriage with uk car license but IDP stamped all categories. Got medical certificate but need residency certificate. Can I get this from my local korat immigration office before my 3 month extension? If not how do I stand with the supposed 3 month validity of IDP uk license. ? Im currently driving motor scooter,is my IDP covering this and will I be able to use it to get motorcycle and car license without taking motorcycle test.? ...or am I just going to have to wait and see what actually happens to find out the truth?

probably need to go to embassy to get letter of residency 3080 baht as you havent done any 90 day reports to immigration, and yes if you have the stamp on your IDP for motorcycle they will give you it I was never asked to see my UK license even though I have motorcycle on it.At least thats how it was for me :) nothing in Thailand ever seems the same information wise, Also as I found out even going to them and asking what you need just got me wrong info, but had to plod on :)

  7. last update, today I went to land driving office in Bangkok with my IDP and a few photo copies of passport and IDP and medical certificate and letter of residency, sat waited, then do depth perception test and colour blind test and a peripheral vision test using colours, pass them, took a ticket and waited again, was called to a cubical and some forms stamped and car license handed to me,confused I asked where is motorcycle licence? she said you want I said yes, she got me to photo copy some forms also the 1 letter of residency I had and the medical then sent me back to the testing line to get stamps strangely enough I never had to redo the tests accept the last one ? took ticket again waited and called back into cubical stuff stamped ect and licenses handed to me, took about 3 hours to get both.I have car and motorcycle stamped on my IDP not once was I asked for my UK license.

so after all the hassle all done bear in mind this is only my experience I am not saying my way was right or wrong just what happened to me,hope it helps someone :)

  8. As promised heres an update ! I went back to immigration to pickup my stamped translated letter of residency which I left there 2 days ago, I arrived at 10am got a number and sat to be called, eventually I was called at 10 30 am only to be told there was something wrong with the translation ! so off we went to see the guy that did it, he took it from us and went away and corrected the errors and gave it back to immigration,we asked immigration how long it will take they said come back in 3 hours :( so we did this and we waited for my name to be called, 4 hours later as it was closing we got called, so I spent another full day wasted and more expense on taxis, taxi home took 2 hours to go 12 miles I've just got in now :( so now I am up early tomorrow to go to land transport office, see what fun I have there, what a joke 3 days to get a piece of paper stamped :(

  9. i have many options available , having considered them all i guess it gets back to protecting the best interest of my family ..... i can end the problem swiftly ,however the fallout for this individual will be life changing ....

What do you mean by this exactly?

Are you actually legally running a company yourself? If not than you have no clout of cause for complaint if you do not practice what you preach.

yes of course i am, that is my beef , the other individual is not and its damaging legit companies .

as for the part you dont understand , i can do it legally involving lawyers and govt officials or i can do it the Thai way ...however i also have a heart and feel for the huge problem this will cause for the offender ....

If you go the Thai way you best be very careful as he may reciprocate and that can get people killed, life is cheap over here so I've heard personally I would do nothing and just up my game at work, but If you feel you should do something I would go the legal route :)

  10. Why do I need a damn Thai driving License? I have a German one.

you'll find out if you have a bump :) if you dont have an international driving permit to drive here technically/legally you dont have insurance or driving license unless of course you hold a Thai license, now I for one wouldnt want to find out the hard way weather or not this would be the out come if I did have a bump, or worse.

  11. I love the give way to the left rule, obviously when they where been written up someone got it wrong, and because its Thailand nobody wants to lose face so it has stuck lol,I would say what a stupid rule if it wasnt Thailand as I often come across cars and motor cycles traveling the wrong way down a road/duel carriage way.Why on earth would anyone want to give way to the right when all the traffic is coming from there lol.

  12. I went through exactly the same thing. 3080 baht for 5 minutes of their time and a whole load of inconvenience to you (because of the embassy opening hours) is a complete let down IMHO. If you want 2 copies for a motorbike license as well, you have to pay exactly double !!.

You can't get the certificate from the immigration police if you never did 90 day reporting. Something nobody tells you until you've spent an hour or two in traffic to get there.

Basically, if you are on 90 day tourist visas then this route is your only option.

When you go for a license, don't go on the day when they are doing the testing. It's complete chaos with people milling around everywhere while they wait.

I got an International Drivers Permit before I went which has motorbike stamped as well. I got a Thai car license (mainly for ID) and use the IDP for motorbikes. Saves risking my passport.

So I need 2 letters for both licences lol, why on earth cant they photo copy the 1 I give them as I'm apply for both at same time <deleted>, is there no common sense in this country or do they just like messing foreigners around, im not paying another 3000+ baht to go back to embassy to get another then another 1000 + baht to get it translated and stamped and wait another 2 days to pick it up, I'll try to get both with 1 letter, if not looks like i'll be becoming more Thai than I expected by riding motorcycles without a license.

  13. I guess you never talked to anyone before you attempted to get your license . You don't need an international license just go to a doctor tell them you need a certificate for a drivers license 100 baht , if you are renting get a copy of the landlords ID,dated and signed confirming that they are your landlord ( not sure what to do if you own your own house ) ,passport copies along with photos and take them to immigration who will then issue you a letter to take to the transport office allowing you to get a license 400 baht . Take the letter along with copies of previous documents to transport office sit through 2 hrs of lecture all in thai ,complete a written test then take them practical test . If you are getting both motorbike and car in the same day you need to double up on all documentation and sit the written test twice once passed back inside get your photo taken and walk out with your new 1 year temporary license(s). Well that's how I obtained mine about a year and half ago completed in 1 day . Best thing I ever did in thailand now I never ever carry my passport have been stopped 30-35 times at least by both army and police and just waved on apart from the helmet checks when not wearing a helmet . The license has your passport number on it . I've booked hotel rooms ,cruises ,plane tickets ect ect using the license for ID and it has always been accepted .

see post above :) and I maybe should have wrote in my first post getting licenses without sitting a test :)

  14. well everything I've have wrote has happened in the last few days, it seems Thailand makes its rules up as it goes along it seems very dependent on who is sat at the desks,my wife also came with me and did much of the talking even she was not happy been told by the transport office that we can get letter from immigration, she said why they lie to me I just laughed and said this is Thailand lol. I wouldnt mind but we purposely went to the driving license office first to make sure we knew exactly what we need and where to go, expecting to be told the right info :(

  15. I thought id put this up as I'm doing it now smile.png I'm from UK and here on a none "O" Visa married to a Thai.

Firstly you need to have an international driving permit. Then doctors certificate this one is easy to get take passport go to any doctors, they listen to you breath and then get you to hold your arms out and try to push them down takes 10 mins cost 80 baht.

next you need letter of residency this one can be a pain in the ass,I've read on here that you need to go to immigration and they will do it for 500 baht I was told this at the land transport office,(where you get license) I tried this in Bangkok and they said no, have to go to your embassy sad.png this may just be a Bangkok thing as I know of others that have done it in Korat and various other citys. So off I trot there only to find out you have to go between 10-11 am so next day (today) I went, needed documents were passport and house book and photo copy of passport and house book, 2 short forms have to be filled out whilst there, now the house book (condo) is in my wifes name this didn't matter, the forms are easy, name passport number and address, also it asked about income but I left that blank as I didn't see it been relevant (maybe a duel use form) then the big shock, the cost 3080 baht for a letter ! Now if I had known this I would have drove to Korat where I have a house and used immigration there for the letter, too late now sad.png

next step we had to go to Immigration to get the letter translated this cost 400 baht whilst still at immigration we now had to get the translated letter officially stamped this cost 400 baht and on top of that it takes 2 days so I have to return on Thursday to pick it up then off to land transport office to attempt getting the licenses (car motor cycle)also spent about 2000 baht in taxis.I'll update further on Thursday when I've been to try and get the licenses so check the thread up to now nobody has asked to see my visa smile.png
