Because of the mans age, I think they were wrong in this punishment.  There are rules the temples are supposed to follow.  De-frocking is not the one for this incident.  The temples appear to use the de-frocking excuse way too easy these days.  A theft of 2000 baht, approx. 60 bucks US is laughable.  The police should never have been notified or if they had, sent the old man back to his own temple via police escort.

I guess you never lived in Thailand

    Thanks for the response.

I guess time will tell, however there is absolutely no evidence to suggest Thailand, or any other country in this region, is on course for an Italy or USA type outbreak. Therefore, that is good news for all of us.

I suggest you look at Indonesia

Again, good news. No exponential increases like other countries have seen. Yesterday's increase was solely down to the 40 - 50 of the cases returning from Indonesia.

As long as there isn't another explosion of related cases like the Lumpini Boxing Stadium then this is seeming to be controllable at the moment.

    Nonsense

20% of immigrants worldwide are citizens. How can you tell which ones are and which ones aren't?

I would be put in jail if I went to the Indian corner shop and told the family that they are only guests and I have "all the right in the world" to complain about something they are doing.

Try Australia, most British living here are not citizen they are just permanent residents,

they have the same rights as Australian citizens.

I'd like to see you try to throw a dollop of butter that has been sitting on the counter at 35 degrees for 10 minutes at me. The point of the post is that this is why the numbers are lower here in Thailand than in Europe or USA, where is is still cold outside. Obviously it is transmittable from human to human.

It hasn't been cold in Australia we just getting over summer well maybe in Tassie in WA we still have

33 to 35 forecast and still getting infections (most of them from the cruise ships and visitors)

True, Australia started social distancing and then lockdown pretty quickly and the rate of new infections and deaths has been quite low.

Only 34 total deaths nationally to date.

Five have been from one old people nursing home where initially they didn't follow the distancing directives and eight have come from cruise ships which did a poor job of hygiene etc.

34 less 13 = just 21 deaths nationally.  Social distancing and lockdown works (but of course people (preferably only one person per household can go out to buy groceries, medicines, etc.).

And yes 84% are imported from overseas travels or cruise ships
