  1. Get a quote from transport office for back pay over the 5 years. Could be a lot more than you think. Please let us know. Then , any "perishables" such as tires , gaskets , hoses , brakes , even exhaust , could have suffered more from not being stored correctly , than if they were used. What is the vehicle and the price.

  2. The basics of the bike is fine for a run a round / commuter. The designers have tried to spice it up a bit. For some people , this is all the bike they want , need or can afford. Cant really compare the Honda,s 40+ HP with the Italians 80+ HP , and style , even if the prices are close.

I agree with the first part but what new Ducati can I buy for around 200,000B?

Posts above were talking about the Benelli,s. Ducati for 200K would be nice.

  3. A viable alternative seems to be the Stallion 400. There was a thread on TV just a few weeks ago. 120,000 Baht

thanks for that - just googled and read about this model.

that certainly looks retro and is priced well, not as cool as the enfield but still a simple bike that has some old school about it and priced sensibly as well.

i don't get where they think the enfield is worth 3 times as much as this as it is well known that these are still a cheap bike to produce (the enfield)

any idea who sells these in thailand?

In Chiang Mai , Stallions are sold at the Keeway dealer on highway 11, near the junction with Charoen Muang Road , near Macro. This shop is just 1KM North of the Benelli dealer , also on HW 11. The 400,s are due to be on sale , or soon.

  4. thaiguzzi , i will be seeing Sammy Miller in a couple of weeks . Now theres a rider .

Bring me a pair of tires back in your suitcase please. Square you up this end c/w postage to Udon, and a nice drink on top.

I,d be glad too , but with the internal flight baggage limit of 15KG (Thai Lion Air) , i struggle myself . Im after a set of tires for my everyday run-around , a Platinum PX 250 supermotard , which im after some 17" dual sport tires for. Similar tread pattern to a Keeway / Lifan dual sport bikes , but 17" .. I will ask here , and in another thread.

    Unnerstan.

    Thanx.

No 17" tyres for your application? Try perhaps big bike shops Kawa/BMW etc.

I can get 17" rears in the correct size , 4.60 , but the fronts are 3.00 , and i can only find rears in that size . Only 17" fronts are 70 width. If you find a picture of the standard PX , you will understand the tire problem. Best bet so far is IRC Trails - not trials - GP1. IRC also do Trials tires , available from 29 tires , Bangkok.

  6. Inlet over exhaust , havent heard that for a while . I dont know of an engine with both valves are in the barrel / block , that you refer to as S V. Single cam lobe on Lifan , interesting. Keeps it simple , cheap and narrow. OHC is more efficient for independent cam timing and gas flow .

Sorry for being pedantic, OHC cannot have ADJUSTABLE independent valve timing for IN or EX. DOHC can, as well as OHV designs with twin cams a la Meriden Triumph twins, unlike single cam designs a la BSA, Norton etc.

OHV pushrod motors like the HD Sportster can have fantastic adjustable individual valve/cam timing as it is a 4 cam motor, one cam per valve. Original design from the SV racers of the early 50's.

Gas flow is another thing entirely. The big advantage ohc or even better dohc has over ohv is much higher rpm limits due to lighter valve train and mass. Pushrods and cam followers can do funny things at 9,500 rpm...

Me being a luddite, i like pushrod motors...

thaiguzzi , yes , your correct for "adjustable" independent cam timing needing DOHC . I meant "independent" cam timing , as in the IN and EX valves having independent cam lobes for independent valve duration / lift . I didnt explain clearly , your not being pedantic , just made my brain have a re-think. Never knew of a OHV engine having 2 cams in trumpet , or 4 in the H D , ( all in the cases ) . Bikes before early eighties are not my area , but still interesting , thanks .

  7. At 50K they could make cheap runabouts , or even a base for a special project , however , i believe Honda has yet to identify the problem areas of this engine , so if its one of the ones that lets go , it wont be a cheap run around when a new engine and gearbox is required. Just depends if you want to take that chance or not . Your Honda has been OK hasnt it. If you fancy a gamble , you could start buying up all the "cheapies" and sell on when they become collectable.

  9. Welcome Tom welcomeani.gifwai.gif . Choose your riding buddies carefully , when it goes wrong , it can be bad . Make sure you have good ( 1st class ) insurance . For town riding , a supermoto / motard style of bike is one of the quickest . Observe the local riding style , and "rules of the road" . Have a look at the Kawasaki 250 Tracker at 156,000 baht. For everyday use a bike like the Yamaha Exciter 150 is perfect , as it has bigger wheels than scooters , for the potholes . And yes , you will feel a prat on it - we all do !. cheesy.gif

  10. pokerkid , you are correct that people are now asking 50K for their Honda,s , but this may be on the back of the known problems with the 250 / 300 engines . People are getting rid of them , quick and cheap . Some are taking the chance , and keeping the bikes , and their fingers crossed. I dont know if the Benelli will depreciate more or less than the Honda , but IF it costs 10K more over the time of ownership , then that is simply the small cost of riding a bike with 25/30% more power from the 300cc twin cylinder engine , along with its fancy wheels , brakes , susspension and Italian style . A small price to pay .
