  1. You visited Bangkok for only 2 weeks and yet it appears within hours of meeting this local girl (who apparently speaks good English), she was staying with you.

I would like to ask the OP, how and where did he meet her? How soon after the meeting was she staying with him?

I have mentioned this before and for the OPs benefit will mention this again:

Down my way there is a Thai family. The guy has a very attractive daughter in her late 30s. She is not and has never been a bar girl but has her own business as an exporter of antique goods.

All sounds good and would appear as an ideal catch for any discerning farang. But this woman is something like the black widow spider. Over the years she has had a string of profiles on dating websites.

After the first couple of dates she invites the farangs to meet her family, than the process for extracting these men of a lot of money begins, with stories that she requires money for her ailing business, the father needs a stomach operation and so on. Within the last 2 years the parents have had a new home built, new vehicles purchased and so on with the monies obtained by scamming these farangs.

It is well known by the locals how this family have acquired their new found wealth. There was one particular German man that we know gave this woman almost 1.5 million baht before she dumped him.

Whatever you decide to do, you do at your own risk and discretion. No one can really advise you on these matters. If this were me and I had no intentions of forming a permanent relationship with this girl, then I would either remain friends with her from a distance, or just consider the situation as a short time holiday romance and wind the whole thing up.

Why you mention that she has never been a bar girls, as it is clear that she's one of the bigger whore's nonetheless

because bar girls are bad and mean and mighty unclean.......not even human according to some......but a good girl doing something more evil is seen as something to admire, lookm up to like it is her business and she never lowered herslef to become a bar girl....she has ethics and morals.

  2. Heavy drinker is spot on...lived here more than 30 years....absolute nonsense what foreigners perceive..there is still a lot of conservatism here..way less than 20 years ago maybe..but it's still there..

Absolutely no one sleeps with someone within days or weeks even without knowing them first be it through work or social circles..

You have to have lived your life here, worked here, bought property here, educate your children here all the normal highs and lows, not just come and experience the periphery of Thai life and then assume to know everything about it..I still don't, and it is nothing as I initially perceived..

There are no exceptions to the rule hey with you guys.

Girls like to shag in the west....girls like to get orf.

Girls here....while granted fewer....like the same things.....its not rocket science to realise if a girl is a little horn bag, she'll like to fulfill that urge.

  3. Where is Baan Mo market ?

Pratunam you mean the baiyoke tower complex...the smaller one ?....or the newer one just before Pantip, around the corner from world trade centre if walking from there.

How about this for a useless tip:

Baan moo specialises in lava lamps. But you wouldn't be interested in those....

I actually know soeone who can drill holes in glass shelves and wire the entire cabinet whit out breaking the glass.

Really.....does he live near me ?

As for lawa lamps.....I have 2...a red one and a blue one.....but would like a 3rd one if can find a hip 70's styled one.

  4. Also the coop conducts regular checks among its suppliers and have already kicked out a farmer for not producing everything himself and buying and reselling product of unknown trace-ability.

So no way even that could just be a marketing scam?

don't think so... Actually it was only because I asked where the farmer had disappeared that they told me the whole story.

They clearly display the price they themselves buy the stuff next to the sale price. (most of times a couple of baht difference) and the farmers come themselves to stock the shelves, so they can see the prices ...

So I believe they are indeed a non-profit organization, hence money not being the motivation, scams are in my opinion automatically ruled out. ... Anything is possible but I would rather trust them than any supermarket.

Where are these coop places....I live too far out to be of use, but used to know of one in a soi off of Suk 21

  5. If you're looking for low prices, you'd only visit a supermarket once every couple of months for thosevery few items you just can't find anywhere else.

The largest wet market in your town will have all fresh goods at very small fraction of any shop with air conditioning, and most of the so-called foodstuffs you can't find there aren't very good for you anyway.

Cheddar cheese? Grated Mozzarella? Western Style Raisin Bread?

Croissants? Hummus? Pita Bread? Peanut Butter? Natural Yogurt? Sour Cream?

And actually, there was a news item here a few weeks back on pesticides in locally available vegetables, and if I recall correct, the report recounted a survey and testing that showed a lot of the veggies available at some of the largest wet markets around BKK tested very high for various potentially dangerous pesticides.

Of course, there was also a different report some time earlier about some of those same kinds of pesticide laden produce items showing up in some of the higher priced supermarket chains around town (although the news report didn't name which ones, as best as I recall).

I wouldn't presume that getting something from a wet market anywhere in Thailand means it's likely to be better for you or safer than anything you purchase in a supermarket. Might be... Might not be.

The wet markets come direct from the farms....so I would presume a lot less likely to care about what they sell as long as they sell it.

  6. Also the coop conducts regular checks among its suppliers and have already kicked out a farmer for not producing everything himself and buying and reselling product of unknown trace-ability.

So no way even that could just be a marketing scam?

One would hope it has even just a little more likelihood of being real than other places that do not check or give a hoot.

  7. No need to lump all of them into the one basket.

    Mines different.

Look in the mirror...it could be you also you know !!

  8. "Rip-off" means a bad financial transaction.

Buying "more expensive" things at Villa is a choice. One is willingly buying their products with knowledge of the price beforehand. Now one may do that for whatever reason they fancy (convenience, quality, brand, etc) and be perfectly fine with the more expensive price. If one isn't fine with it, they shouldn't shop there. The fact that there are at least 10 Villa markets around Bangkok tells me that there is indeed a market being catered to. Why would they shop there if it is a "rip-off", aka engaging in "bad financial transactions"? Its business. Villa has a niche market it caters to.

Let me put it this way; Would you say Mercedes Benz dealerships in Thailand are rip-offs because they charge 2 or 3 times what a dealer in the West would? No, because there is a market here willing to pay that price. Villa is the same thing.

No...because the market charges what it does for benzs because of taxes......the same benz is not available down the street for 1/3 the price.....as are the bananas.

While on an expat package salary buying fruit and veg at villa during the weekly shop is a no brainer- it's being able to use cash to buy yourself time ( there are plenty of things many would rather be doing than driving somewhere else to buy cheaper veggies !). And, lets be honest, we would all be doing the same if we could afford to.

No I would and I actually buy my fruits&veg organic, much cheaper than villa.

Eating pesticides in a regulation-free country might save you a few bahts in the short term, but not for long.

    Where do you buy your f & v ?

  9. @ OP

    No, it isn't.

    NEXT THREAD

    yes it is.....

    Mouldy crumpets at near 200b...

    Vegemite priced higher than tops...

    Steak at outlandish prices.....

Butternut pumpkin..<deleted>...(solly)....490b compared to my local royal project ones at 40b....

So am I right in thinking that you had already formed a fixed opinion, and you only started the thread of with the sole purpose of starting a bickering match, or was there more to it than that? Did you also want to slag off Villa while pretending to be open-minded?

There really is no excuse for obscenity when discussing fruit and veg, although that joke about the effin' fish may be a different matter

    SC

    More to it than that.

I am not very open minded.

What about obscenities re fruit n veg in a porn movie ?...is that ok ?

  10. @ OP

    No, it isn't.

    Charge for everything...plact packaging.....glass bottles....tin cans.....cardboard stuffs....the lot and watch the dumping ground...the earth....breathe a sigh of relief over next 10 years.

400 odd years for a plastic bag to go away......day after day after day after day.....

  12. Did the OP learn from his lesson but ??

No I didn't, I might not be able to go back to Thailand and see my wife and child , what sort of stupid question is have u learnt my lesson u fool.

Diddums I think you miss understood his reply when you asked if he is still drinking and he said yes he didn't say he was still drinking and driving. Trust me he fully understands the possible implications of what was an act of stupidity but also something I am fairly sure the majority of us have at least once done ourselves.

He knows whats he could lose here he isn't a fly in/fly out tourist he has a wife and child here thats on the line.

Now how long before a hand-wringer posts 'he should of thought about that before he got drunk' I reckon not more than 3 posts.

    Looks clear cut to me.

If what he wrote has come across wrong...then fair enough...can only go by what he writes and his attitude to it.

Too late to shut the gate after the horse has bolted.

  13. No I didn't, I might not be able to go back to Thailand and see my wife and child , what sort of stupid question is have u learnt my lesson u fool.

Drink driving you fool....it kills people you know....usually innocent people.

With your attitude then thank god you are not allowed back.

    nobody is innocent, NOBODY

Yes, but people can learn from it...my point is it seems he did not from his comments.

  14. Recently ....Mangoes at 195 a kilo.....I can buy them where I live for 50/60b a kilo for the same type....others even less.

Grapes were 280 a kilo.....in tesco here they range from 80/180b a kilo.

    Bananas 125 a bunch......I buy here for 30/60b a bunch.....some 10b on a good day.

    Huge ripoff.

  15. Any signifigance to what you dream here ?

The other night I had a dream.....I was sitting on a toilet...naked...in the middle of a lounge room watching tv with 2 guys sitting on a sofa and a bean bag also watching tv while I bog.

Sat there for a long time cos tv can do that to you.....then when done there was no toilet paper or bum gun in the middle of the lounge room and nobody would go get anything for me....being naked I had no tshirt I could use or a hanky......so I just sat there.

Whats the hidden meaning behind this ?
