I was recruited for a job here 11 years ago as a category 4 person, with a work permit and have paid a good amount of tax each year.

I have not experienced anything that made my remaining here year to year easier, doing my 90-day report, and in fact the paperwork requirements have increased.

i do have to admit that showing a copy of my WP has resulted in my getting the thai price for entering some double priced places

I have never experienced an immigration officers saying that a slight error in the paperwork, or missing one out of 4 required signatures was not a problem, lets stamp your passport and work it out later.

In fact, an immig officer made a mistake one time, and when they realized it a few years later, said too bad, you need to do all this to fix it.

Same thing happened to me! When I moved to Bangkok from Khaolak, CW told me “they made a mistake in Phang Nga “. I asked how that was my problem but they just walked away. 20,000 baht later an agent “fixed” it!

When the original order for the insurance came out in 2019 it did not state a reason.

In my opinion they consider those using the OA visa as not staying full time in the country and not having any ties to the country and were more likely to leave the country without paying a hospital bill.

    If you don't mind putting 800k baht in a Thai bank or can prove 65k baht income you can get a extension of stay based upon retirement without insurance being required.;

    UJ,

Can you clarify this? I thought you need both insurance AND 800k in the bank to get a renewal?

I wonder if they would do a 60 day covid 19 extension.

How long will you have the money bank when your permit to stay ends?

Maybe try doing your extension and having it rejected and then ask for a 60 day covid 19 extension.

    UJ,

800,000 total will have only been there for 5 weeks. I had maintained a balance around 600k because I thought  I was going to qualify under the marriage  extension. Trying to get the Covid yextension. Will go back to CW next week.

OP, take it you now have the 800k in your Thai bank account.

When does your permission of stay end. It's on stamp in pp.

Obtain a covid extension. That gives you 60 days permission of stay.

Then apply for your 12 month extension based on retirement.

Dr. Jack, this is what I am working on. Don’t know what reason I I’ll give for Covid extension but the IO said to do it.  Hoping for the best outcome.

It's not done that way. An agent almost certainly would not be using the immigration office where you live and not Bangkok.

Exactly. I spoke with an agent that said if they did the 60 day extension I would have to do all subsequent extensions through them as it would be done outside of BKK. What a deal!????

    UJ,

yeah they said that they might do that but I have to come landlords id, lease etc.

  7. I have an OA visa. Because of mistaken info given to me by an agent, the money I have in the bank will not have been there long enough when my visa runs out. So today I went with my wife and all the right papers to CW to apply for a 60 day extension to visit my wife. I was told, contrary to what I read here, that I cannot get this kind of extension on an OA visa. So what do I do know? Either leave the country or pay an agent. I  so frustrated that I can’t even explain it. I have more than the required amount in the bank and had I known that I couldn’t switch to an extension based on marriage  it would have been there for the time necessary. It’s all too much. I don’t  know what else I can do. Maybe move back home? Getting too old for this.

  8. Dr Jack.

yeah. That is what I am doing. Unfortunately because I thought I only needed 400.000 in the bank the 800.000 will be there but not long enough so I have to deal with that. To make matters worse I just realized my visa expires on October 26th. I arrived in Thailand on November 11! I had a stroke a few months ago so I get a little fuzzy sometimes. This will all work out just going to cost me. I learned an important lesson though about trusting some people to do their job.

  9. Dr Jack,

let me back up! My OA is good until November 11. I had enough money in the bank to cover the marriage extension because that is what I thought I needed. Now I was told that can’t be done so I got insurance and transferred more money but it won’t arrive for a few days which I believe will make it so that the money hasn’t been in the bank long enough! Had the agent, whom I have used before, told me that he couldn’t get a marriage extension for me, told ma that before I would have had all of this taken care of. He claims that when I asked him it was possible for him to do outside of BKK but not possible now. It makes my head explode!

  10. Ubon Joe,

Sorry, I misspoke! I meant an extension of stay! Thanks. That is what I was hoping to hear. I am now married and wanted to change the extension reason to "marriage" but just learned that isn't possible with an OA. I had hoped to avoid the 800k, though I have it, I just didn't want to keep it in Thailand. No choice now as leaving the country and reentering on a different visa isn't really an option. Oh well. another covid snafu!! Thanks again.

There is so many different news articles from various sources I think the best thing to do is wait for the IATA site to show what is required to board a flight to Thailand. Check: https://www.iatatravelcentre.com/international-travel-document-news/1580226297.htm

I just checked and the new requirements are not there yet.

Ubon Joe, Interestingly enough IATA site has no mention of the "Ongoing local Transmission Zones" of which the USA is one. Looks like I will be stuck here for a while. It is virtually impossible to get a test for Covid19 in the USA. They are tremendously behind in their ability to test people even those that really need it.

  12. I am stuck in US due to a missing passport until Saturday when I was supposed to fly to BKK. Today I read this. https://www.khaosodenglish.com/news/crimecourtscalamity/2020/03/19/prayut-orders-all-travelers-to-present-virus-certificate/

There is so much conflicting info that I don't know what to believe. Do any of you know if the above article is correct? If so it will be impossible for me to enter because Covid tests are hard to come by and they certainly aren't giving them to anyone not showing symptoms. Thanks.

  13. I am an American currently in the USA. I live in BKK. I was due to fly back to BKK on March 14 and then discovered that I lost my US passport! In it, of course, were my extension of stay and re entry permit. Does anyone know what I need to do when I finally land in BKK with a new passport? Do I have to enter as a tourist or is there some way for them to check my status at the airport? Thanks.
