  1. I personally recall one date from when I first arrived.

I got the number of a girl working in a pharmacy and arranged a date. On the day in question we were supposed to meet at 2pm. At 11am I got a text off her friend saying 'please come collect her she is very drunk'.

This set the alarm bells ringing so I said 'ha ha send me a picture'. The pictures that followed were frankly hilarious, mostly 4 drunk girls with 3 large Chang beer towers empty in the background and lots of empty plates stacked up.

All girls were drunk, getting on it at 9am? Bear in mind the girls were mid 20's but 9am?

More texts were exchanged with the dates friend and it became clear they were after me collecting her as she was throwing up everywhere and becoming a problem for them. Oh and the bill needed clearing.

I'm sure they were nice girls but possibly got carried away aided by alcohol.

Needless to say I did the decent thing, I sent a text complimenting them on their astonishing good looks, turned my phone off and went for a nice bicycle ride.

  2. I don't think that will do you any good.

If you are worried about being raped put some weight on and don't wear make up.

If you are worried about personal attack buy some pepper spray or a 60kg pit bull dog.

    My usual consultancy fee applies.

  3.

I beg to differ Guesthouse, I have known a few guys back in Scotland who were very mild mannered people who would not say boo to a goose, but when they started drinking, they wanted to take on everybody.

You knew a few violent people who presented a persona of being mild mannered, the facade fell away when they got drunk.

Embarrassed to write this but I have to disagree with this.

Unfortunately I suffer from strong personality alteration after too many drinks, and I believe it to be a form of alcoholism more than anything else. Since a teenager, having hit a certain point of intoxication I quite suddenly switch. I get belligerent and offensive until someone rises to the bait.

For me it's verbal aggression, I'm don't go around throwing physical punches (though I certainly trigger others to do so). I have no idea why I do this - it's completely illogical, but I will state opinions that I don't hold simply to provoke conflict.  There have been some serious incidents along the way.

Thankfully I've learnt to get better at stopping before I hit this point, and loved ones know the signs and help me away from the situation, but to this day I regularly have sleepless nights thinking back ashamed about things I've done under the influence of alcohol. It's debilitating to be honest.

I'm not on a sympathy-trawl here though, my point is, I strongly believe that for some people alcohol triggers strong personality alteration, and that this is a form of alcoholism. I can accept that this type of behaviour could be symptomatic of a disorder (APSD perhaps) however I believe that in many of the cases of the 'mild-mannered sober person to violent drunk person', it's the addition of alcohol that causes the right chemical conditions in the brain for the disorder to exist. For many, without the introduction of alcohol, it is not there.

I believe the condition you mention is more commonly known as <deleted>.

    Carry on.

  4. Usa invading Thailand... And I will be out...

If England & Great Britain & United Kingdom & UK & Britain & U.K. tried to colonize 1/3 of the world again and this time included Thailand, I'd be out.

Oh wait. UK expats have invaded and colonized Thailand. Never mind.   Posted Image

  5. You know the Dali Lama only wants to get Tibet back because the monks were the ruling class and they want to usurp power for themselves again!

  6. "We've all had times when a helping hand really sent us in the right direction so whilst he was still asleep I slipped 1000 baht in his shirt pocket."

Holy S**T !!--you really do live up to your online 'moniker' of 'Britgent'--that was really a large donation by anybody's standards.

I applaud your generosity--now where exactly did you wander across this 'sleeping' dude, must get my map out--and my old clothes.

Giving 1,000 baht anonymously is a really nice gesture, but why break that anonymity on here?

You think said drunk uses thaivisa or that you can find me by using my moniker of britgent?

Anonymity is still intact though thank you for thinking about me.

  7. I was out for my daily walk and happened upon a 50-ish, dark Asian guy sleeping on the inside of the moat opposite the Ford dealership.

I thought this guy was homeless and asleep out in the open in the blistering midday sun poor guy.

We've all had times when a helping hand really sent us in the right direction so whilst he was still asleep I slipped 1000 baht in his shirt pocket.

My intention was to provide him with a chance to get a room for a few nights, a bite to eat and look presentable for potential employers.

Without fail for the next few days I saw him blotto sat in exactly the same place when I went past.

    Caveat Emptor!

Probably the same drunk Bangladeshi guy that told me to give him "F***ING money" or to suck his... My brother wanted to knock him out and push him into the moat. Then we decided that was probably a bit hash, just for swearing at us. He needs putting in an immigration detention center.

I don't begrudge giving the guy the cash. I just wish he was a genuinely in need homeless who just needed a helping hand not another Chang.

    Oh well, lesson learnt.

No he was not if Indian descent this fellow.

  9.

By all means don't tip any Thai person. We don't want those Thai workers earning 300 baht a day to get uppity ideas that they are worth any more and as good as us. Just bicker and haggle over every baht, and pick up those fallen satangs off the street.

    What a horrendously racist rant.

    Shame on you!

I thought my sarcasm was obvious. I guess not. Some people are thicker than I thought.

    Apparently so it appears.
