  1. By all means don't tip any Thai person. We don't want those Thai workers earning 300 baht a day to get uppity ideas that they are worth any more and as good as us. Just bicker and haggle over every baht, and pick up those fallen satangs off the street.

    What a horrendously racist rant.

    Shame on you!

  2. Sorry for the title I tried to edit the I'll to Ill but no joy. Predictive text etc. Could a kind mod please do it?

I forgot Chang Export. After reading so many good things about it I headed straight to tops and bought a crate. How disappointed I was when I discovered how tasteless it is. They sat in the fridge untouched for a very long time.

  3. Yes I know no beer is the best bet for no hang over but after experimenting with the usual suspects I have found that Chang pretty much annihilates the senses and tries to kill me the evening in question with my antics and the morning after with the changeover.

I then moved onto Leo but quickly grew bored of its overly sweet taste and moved onto Heineken which just doesn't taste right sometimes.

Recently I have been favouring Singha.

Sorry to go on what I meant to ask instead of waffling on is which beer is of the highest quality and least likely to produce a terrible hang over.

    Moderation is key I know.

Also has anybody experienced the flat beer syndrome plaguing Thailand? Every now and again I get a fresh beer and its perfectly flat like it has been left open sometime. I'm guessing this might be waiting staff getting the order wring and resealing the bottle so as not to incur wastage?

My last point is does anybody accept the free shits at bars, I'm sure its despicable home brew and I'm wary off what they might slip in it.

  4. "date 2-3 girls a week " &"nor do I pay these girls " & "my dates usually cost around 1,000B on average."

    why go to the bother?

i find the biggest problem is beating off the monks et al.

Do they return the favour or just take a charitable donation?

  5. All the best with the recovery and remember to use dettol/disinfectant cream as this tropical climate encourages infection of open wounds.

  6. I only ask as so many friends here simply can't eat the spicy foods on offer, including myself.

I tried conditioning myself upon arrival but this resulted in abject misery of stomach pains and emergency bowel movements.

But as falang are we designed not to eat spicy food bar the odd exceptional person or can we teach our bodies to accept spicy food stuffs?

  7. When tourists or people I meet out and about start telling me their life story.

I would if they were staying around longer.

    Guess I'm just insensitive.

  8. My job is so unbelievable. I'll try to sum it up by first telling you about the folks I work with:

First, there is this supermodel wanna-be chick. Yeah, okay, she is pretty hot, but damn is she completely useless. The girl is constantly fixing her hair or putting on makeup. She is extremely self-centered and has never once considered the needs or wants of anyone but herself. She is as dumb as a box of rocks, and I still find it surprising that she has enough brain power to continue to breathe.

The next chick is completely the opposite. She might even be one of the smartest people on the planet. Her career opportunities are endless, and yet she is here with us. She is a zero on a scale of 1 to 10. I'm not sure she even showers, much less shaves her "womanly" parts. I think she might be a lesbian, because every time we drive by the hardware store, she moans like a cat in heat.

But the jewel of the crowd has got to be the damn stoner. And this guy is more than just your average pothead. In fact, he is baked before he comes to work, during work, and I'm sure after work. He probably hasn't been sober anytime in the last ten years, and he's only 22. He dresses like a beatnik throwback from the 1960's, and to make things worse, he brings his big dog to work. Every day I have to look at this huge Great Dane walk around half-stoned from the second-hand smoke. Hell, sometimes I even think it's trying to talk with its constant bellowing. Also, both of them are constantly hungry, requiring multiple stops to McDonald's and Burger King, every single bloody day.

Anyway, I drive these folks around in my van and we solve mysteries and stuff.

  9. I'd rather listen to someone moaning than all the supposed internet entrepreneur billionaire american bullshit artists I meet almost weekly.

    Heaven preserve us.

  10. If it was just me I'd have possibly put it down to linguistic issues but with the thai missus there she put it succinctly "they're trying to screw you".

They were just playing a waiting game trying to put obstacles in my way so I flew home before the deposit issue was resolved. Very dishonest but not rare here for deposits not to get returned.

  11. First two places I got my deposit back no problem.

Third place by Lanna Muay Thai clearly wanted to keep the 15,000 baht deposit.

A week before moving out I asked to have the deposit ready for my last day and after inspection. OK they said but on last day said, oh no wait 14 days please. They thought I was leaving the country so I asked can you pay it into my bank account or to my friend. "Sorry can't do". Upon telling them lucky I was in country for two more weeks they looked decidedly sullen.

The 14 day point arrived and no one answered the phones on the previously ordained deposit pick up day. I arrive to a closed reception. Next day I call and they say oh we think you go home, we have to go bank to get money.

Very begrudgingly they handed the deposit over, minus the cost of a leaking tap which I had pointed out on moving in and requested to be fixed three times but nothing was ever done.

My close Thai friend was with me and knew the story and was more infuriated than I was.

Oh and they do bank transfers they just wanted to keep the deposit.

They asked me to sign some papers and return the contract at the end after the deposit was returned...I just politely walked away from a complete joke of a place to live.

  12. Sorry to get back to you guys so late but it has to be ENG1. I'm sure I googled it a while back and Bangkok and Pattaya came up. I'll have another look. Was hoping for someone who'd been to one here but no problem.

On another side note I'm looking like every other man and his dog at moving from what I'm doing to getting on the oil rigs, specifically the oil exploration/drilling ones off east Africa but have no idea what speciality the rigs are crying out for. Also what courses that profession would need. All help greatly appreciated!
