  1. This case is a watermark for me. I always thought that if you took intelligent people, brought them to the west, gave them good life, good education and a chance at a great life, Almost no one would turn to this type of deviant behavior.

This is a clear case where i am totally wrong. There are some people that are wired in such a way that even with all the assets available to them, they still chose to hurt other people.

What is it about the Islamist Muslims that make them so different from moderate Muslims and the rest of humanity? I dont think any other religious subset causes so much pain. please correct me if i am wrong.

Is it that they believe and obey their religious clerics without question? Do they? If so, does that make them more susceptible to deviant ideology?

I'm not even sure about moderate Muslims now. It seems that these young men started out as moderate Muslims they suffered no injustices in the US, but still were turned to radicalism without anyone moderate knowing it. If someone noticed something, they are not saying it, there by perpetuating the radicalism of others.

I'll probably get flame for this, showing my ignorance and all, but i'm really at a wall here. Any enlightening thoughts from any one? I'm really troubled by my conclusion that even all moderate Muslims could be radicalized, and the only warning sign is a showing of slight discontentment.(who hasn't felt disenchanted at one time or another?) And if any moderate could be radicalized, its not really deviant behavior, but something that is a part of the religious nature, albeit a minor part.

I hope the investigations in the next several days, weeks months, years, will add some clarity to my thoughts.

Muslims are good and bad as any other of the Abrahamic religions.

  2. Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party, was referring to a decision by the Lower House on Thursday to designate the bill a top priority for debate when Parliament reconvenes in August.

Abhisit threatens and attacks Parliamentarian democracy, again.

Zhou Zhou: I don't know what planet you are on. Certainly not the same as the majority of Thai Visa users. Now answer this question honestly: Where do you stand on the political spectrum? Would you have supported Hitler or Churchill? What is interesting to me is that you are so predictable and you have not answered previus points I have made. There is nothing in what Abhisit has said that could lead to the point you make. The job of an opposition leader is to point out the pitfalls and errors in any administration's actions. This is surely what Parliamentary democracy is about. Unike Thaksin who would brook no opposition which is not what Parliamentary democracy is about. What you say in yur other post is absolutely off the wall and incorrect. Come on ZhouZhou, get real and start to understand, not only the nature of democracy but also the nature of fascism.!

I don't know how that has something to do with Churchill or Hitler nor would i think that Abhisit compares to any of them. so don't know what your question here really is.

but Hitler or the Nazis were anti parliamentarian.

I am all for a parliamentarian democracy. it is the peoples and the electorate decision who they vote for. if i am believe in democracy i have to accept that and don't threat with a new round of coups, violence and party dissolutions.

  3. The rudest and loudest people I ever seen.

i had the misfortune of traveling with a large grop of them on Airasia from Don Mueang to Singapore last night. <deleted>, it was chaotic from the time the announcement for boarding till the plane took off. Why is it so hard for them to queue up orderly, and why is it so hard to figure out what seat each has been allocated? They were arguing with each other, standing on the aisle, and blocking everyone behind them, where they should be seated! And, they seem to be all half deaf, cos they were all shouting at the top of their voices to each other even to the person sitting on next seat. Good thing I had my earphones and music.
Must be a cultural thing , I've experienced the same ,even at a lodge in NZ once (so they weren't low class Chinese).

Generally seem unaware of the concept of "consideration " unless pointed out to them .

    must be your cultural problem.

most Chinese i know behave totally normal and proper.

and if it happens that i stay over the weekend in a hotel on Phuket and i have the choice to share the hotel with a group of Chinese, male American collage student who have a the same hair cut or large group of middle age white single men - i would prefer the Chinese group. they are the least disturbing ones. check in late quiet, having their breakfast very early in the morning and move on - you will barely notice them.

  4. You only have to look at Hong Kong and Singapore to see examples where eradication of wholesale corruption has had enormous social benefits in raising living standards of the general public. It is no coincidence that both share impeccable public transport systems and airport links. Both airports are superb (Changi almost to a fault) and both easily accessible by rail link from nearly anywhere.

In stark contrast, Thailand has an airport which even when built couldn't cope with the volume of traffic it was expected to handle, has had numerous problems including; corruption on an incredible scale from the land to the building right down to the escalators, fire trucks and scanners, Duty Free concessions involving corruption, criminal activity, and it is widely acknowledged to be under the control of not the Airport Authority, but of three 'mafia' families.

Three wheels on my wagon and I'm still rolling along.

the airport is good. getting good rankings in international comparison.

it is not Changi, yes. If you like Singapore more why don't go work over there.

I'll join in on this. It's fun.

If you are Chinese, why don't you go back there?

i worked in Singapore. Now i am in Bangkok. it is not perfect here. but not that bad that i would complain all the time.

if i dislike a place or dislike a job i would not stay but move.

if you not work here but are just a tourists - move too. China is recommended for having a visit, a lot of nice places there.

life is too short for boring moans. be happy.

  6. The rudest and loudest people I ever seen.

Do you mean Chinese people or do you mean tourists?

some tourist can be very rude and bad mouthing people. like talking bad about the local people. i have seen such people here to. but i don't think they are Chinese.

It is called freedom of speech, troll!
i think freedom speech doesn't have to mean to be loud, rude and disrespectful.

Agree with you so many tourists are bad mannered, I visit Koh Lhan frequently--difficult to know the difference between Chinese Taiwanese and Korean unless you speak their language, The Chinese stand out more as their clothes-particulally the mid age bracket are somewat old fashioned and the Chinse DO tend to argue about deck chair prices and goods more than the more well behaved Kor/Taiwan tourists.

Another feature with the Chinese is they spend Little on every day shopping, As Nisa and other google fanatics/TAT figures show what they pay for their holiday rather than what they spend locally. BUT I agree it goes into the Treasury--good---

An item on Thai T.V. said that tourism is Thailands biggest earner ????? figures give us 8% but we are overwealmed with tourists at the minute. We have to believe what we can, rather than google up TAT or a.n. other. seeing is the best guide to how many tourists are here. What they spend is very dubious, I never see Chinese spend big ammounts---it all goes on their ?? day package.

Reports say Chinese spend more than the average tourist. maybe not in beer bar but in other places.
  8. One thing that gets me is. The victim who woke up in hospital, and wrote a note saying he saw one of them drop a bag next to him. If it was me I'd have been shouting and making folks aware. Not every day some one drops a bag at your feet and walks away.

yes that poor guy will ask himself that question every day now until the end of his life.

but not everyone things everyone else has bad intentions. now you cannot leave your bag unattended for a short time anymore.

The thing is we are not in the mid-west 50 years ago when you can just leave personal belongings lying around. I would have thought it was unusual - to leave a bag then walk away. Certainly can't do that in an airport these days.
Its a sport event with many people having their sport bag with them and not much distrust between the sportsmen.

i would probably get blow up by such bag, thinking that person want just grab a hot dog around the corner and not that he is a terrorist.

  10. The government doesn't seem care about the drought, while my village has no water, the government is concerned about passing amnesty bills and couldn't care less about getting water to my village. Yet this is suppose to be the government of the people.

no worry the government is already at work. the rain weather minister will open the monsoon season soon and take care of your village.
  11. How many houses and buildings have storm water gutters. How many houses and buildings have large storm water storage tanks. The answer to both these questions is NONE ! Thais just let all that storm water run into the ground................ Mai pen lai ! a typical attitude especially here on Samui.

typical tourist attitude. knowing things better than the locals.

    but Samui is not Thailand.

  12. Publicus, are you saying if a coup were to take place, then North Korea would retain it's borders and continue on as it's own country (with different leadership)?

What do you think would happen if there was an actual war? New borders and N. Korea is no longer it's own country or what?

    Yes.

War on the peninsula would be avoided by a coup orchestrated by Beijing. With secrecy as the way of life in both Pyongyang and Beijing, the coup could occur up to two weeks or so before we'd know it, perhaps a month. Kim's father was not seen for months after he'd had his first stroke.

China will not play dirty tricks and force a regime change in Korea.

why should they? Kim Jong un stands for reforms. it is expected he will modernize the country. he likes mickey mouse and that sport from America.

but of course never give up to be a proud Korean and don't let foreigners dictate him what to do.

  13. The U.S. removed its tactical nuclear weapons from S Korea in 1991. The U.S. hasn't any known nuclear weapons in NE Asia. You are regurgitating Pyongyang propaganda. Pyongyang recently sank a S Korean submarine resulting in the loss of 43 S Korean sailors. Pyongyang also bombarded a S Korean island which also resulted in fatalities. In these and other instances S Korea has shown wise restraint. However, the unified U.S. Korean military command needs always to show it is prepared to fight a war in response to N Korean belligerence and aggression. You do recall that N Korea invaded the South, without provocation, in June 1950?. Try not to be so confused by the facts.

As to the report U.S. B-52 nuclear armed bombers have been sent to Guam, I haven't heard or seen that, but I wouldn't be surprised. The bouncing baby boy Kim Jon-gun has to be made aware that nuclear weapons are not cherry bombs to throw at the guys in the other classroom for laughs. Openly threatening to initiate the first use of nuclear weapons in the present context of perpetual hostility on the peninsula is not child's play.

The U.S. anyway has boomer subs in the western pacific and near the Korean peninsula. Sending B-52 and other bombers to Guam is just a much more visible forward military posture.

Pres Obama is befuddling Pongyang's long time strategy of blackmail. Obama has turned the table on Pyongyang, saying he will remove the new anti-missile missiles from the region if Kim & Co will negotiate over their nuclear weapons. Obama's de-escalation would still leave the U.S.-Korean Combined Forces Command with at least the same level of defensive posture as existed before baby boy Kim started his dangerous antics.

Beijing meanwhile has lost face over its brainchild N Korea and continues to loose face, severely.

I remember you called the Russians in Korea occupier. but the Russians left in 1948. The US never. why?

As for a North Korean "Invasion" to the South - The North Korean are Koreans after all why should they accept some foreign rule that divided their country? What was the business of the US then? protect their installed dictator?

In the Korean POV the US is the aggressor and the current confrontation was triggered by the US show of force with that B-2 bombers dropping dummy bombs. new training version of Operation Hudson Harbor.

I don't know if that story about nuclear warheads in Guam is true or not, but it doesn't sounded like NK propaganda to me.

And if i listen here on all the experts on haircuts and how "we" could turn NK into a glass clots in under five minutes than there might be something true.

Furthermore any of these sanction probably doesn't help much either. it just brings suffer to the people as history has shown.

i wish for the Korean that they can be one united country one day. like Germany. I don't see American war games helping there much. is just tearing the country further apart.

And where does China lose some face here? I don't think so. They focus on what really happens and not on haircuts.

  14. Obama voiced anger over the move as he stood alongside parents of children killed in the school massacre in Connecticut last year and former congresswoman Gabby Giffords, who was wounded in a gun attack.

anger and emotion don't make good judgement.

Background checks for guns bought online and at gunshows makes obama a "DICTATOR"? Wingnuts unite!!!!

Sent from my GT-S7500L using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

If he gets angry over that his bill got rejected by the hundred senators, than he doesn't sound much like somebody who can easily accept democratic decisions.

  15. The bill was bs...in America you have background checks regardless of where you buy a gun legally. Criminals don't follow the laws, don't do background checks. Eric Holder is guilty of running guns illegally to Mexico, and should be arrested. This bill was nothing more than an attempt to control the population by an elitest, statist government. That's not a statement against Democrats alone, the Republicans are just as guilty. America is in trouble, it's freedoms eroding daily, and the sheep lining up mindlessly. Obama lied in his press conference, 90% of Americans don't agree with this bill. To buy a gun online requires it to be shipped to a federally registred gun dealer, who then runs an FBI check on you before he allows you to take the gun home. Gun shows the same way. It's the mindless sheeple who fall for the lies that Obama, Bush and their kind spew.

    All true, great post.
But something seems to be still okay in the US when the bad bill was rejected by the Senate.

    Good balance system.

  16. The boy has been educated at the best universities the West has to offer for a decade or so, undiscovered by anyone.

    Except you yes?

If there was a self opinionated fat tank of a kid with a pudding bowl haircut in roll call, stood on a red silk cushion, I think someone would have noticed.

Or were these secret underground CIA funded universities?

What has his haircut to do with it? Why some posters here are so obsessed with his haircut? Is that an American thing?
  17. It turns out our fugitive became an American citizen on September 11, 2012. coffee1.gif

Younger brother? So he is an American after all.

What about older brother, he wanted to become American too and disliked his Russian citizenship.

His older brother turned out to be a dedicated Jihadist terrorist. Who cares what he wanted to be? I think the living fugitive probably wasn't as dedicated but it's a bit late for him too.
did he made a Jihadist terror statement or how you know?
