He tried to open Pakistan's first gay nightclub. He got sent to a mental hospital. - LGBTQ Nation Wrong place, wrong time, apparently. It's always discouraging to learn about the persecution of LGBTQ people in so many countries. We hear about great progress in Thailand with marriage equality and sometimes forget that it's still the dark ages in many countries and in some countries such as very severely Russia, China, and even parts of the U.S., things are going backwards. Those in friendlier countries may well ask, who the heck needs gay bars anymore with all the apps? Aren't gay bars passe? Well, if you aren't allowed to open one, no, they're not.
