  1. "Are you against non residents posting in TVF OldChinaHam ? ..... I do hope not"

Absolutely not, of course. But one of the things I find intriguing is the lengths some posters will go to put on a convincing charade, pretending to be living in Thailand when they actually are not. I find such attempts fair game and make no moral judgement. I only wonder at the attempts.

Once you have been posting for a while, I imagine that it requires quite some effort to keep up this farce.

Who does not like to read good posts about Thailand written by anyone, where ever they happen to be?

It is interesting to hear from the writers who are not in Thailand, or have left Thailand. I think it is very interesting, as Smokie36 said in his comment. I like his comment about the cookie and tea, especially.

  2. It still boggles the mind, how avatars can take on lives of their own.

They so easily become imbued with all the qualities we find so irritating in real life.

When someone is offended, it is now always,

    "The Avatar did it."

  3. Yes! Again with the power failure for about 20 seconds, hardly long enough to rev up my flashlight.

Now the elevator is out for lunch,

    The electric continues to flicker.

    What is happening?

Just a bit of rain and a breath of wind is all.

What would happen if we had a Super Typhoon?

We'd all be blown to the land of OZ, no doubt.

You can see the bright lights of a few transformers in the distance going nuts and arcing.

I'm going back to my Bach.

  4. In fact, Shaggy, I really do believe that most people here do seem to show a relatively good amount of respect for others.

If it were otherwise, I believe that TV would not enjoy the degree of success that it has.

I very much like the point that you are making, because no one enjoys being part of a forum that tolerates behavior such as belittling a poster who may be new or weaker. I think your concern was for those who might like to post but are afraid to do so fearing that they may be made fun of or ridiculed.

I think it is also important to know what kind of a forum this is. Because if one knows that he or she is likely to take a bit of good-natured ribbing from the outset, and knows that this is normal, then when this happens, it will seem normal and not derogatory.

And then there are just some jokes that should never be made under any circumstance, but I do not see these very often on TV.

Thank you for the topic, I think it is something to continue to consider.

Are we friends now? (Just Joking, Shaggy! I have been in your corner, all along.)

  5. The reason I mention Itchybum and Japanese is that every time I read one of his posts, I always say to myself,"ICHIBAN"!

And then I thought, well, if I pander he might share with me one of his likes, which he just stated he received after he asked for them, less than 2 hours ago.

  6. This question has been plaguing me. How many, or what percent of posters, submit comments on this worthy forum, while not living in Thailand?

I am sure I would never admit to not being in Thailand if I had first said I was.

The TV website admins knows if I am in Thailand, and probably where in Thailand I am, or am not.

So is anyone here, who regularly posts, willing to say they are not in Thailand?

(Please, though, it would be rotten for anyone to guess about another poster's Thailand whereabouts.)

But are there any pretenders out there?

    There always are.

This is not a comment on morality.

Even though, this is the Pub.

    Where much goes on,

    under the table.

  7. The only reason I mentioned recalling likes is that I was wondering if it is possible to make a pandering comment, and then when one has reaped the likes, there would be the chance to state what one really believes without risking the loss of already tallied likes.

Can you see the advantage of having this software feature?

  8. Thank you for the Fiction writer list. I will give a few a try, although LeCarre I have read. My preference for Non Fiction has nothing to do with the author being or not being an intellectual. My problem is that my mind wanders back to the real world when I read Fiction. (Films are much the same for me these days. I have no patience with fantasy.)

  9. Does anyone know if it is possible to "hit" the 'Like This' button, and then about two, ten minutes, or 1/2 hour later, if you cannot make up your mind, then recall the decision and withdraw the 'Like'? Or is this not part of the software as currently configured.
