  1. If the OP would run aan own pub or disco he could understand the policy of that club. A beer or a coke you can drink even you are standing anywhere..... but if you come with friends and wanna open a bottle of Whisky and Champagne then you need and expect a table and a place chair where you can sit.

I had my own discotheque a few years ago and I had the same problem. Some customers come to drink only 1 beer all night but they blocked my chairs and tables while other customers who came to celebrate with friend, buying whisky bottles, ordering food etc cannot find a table. I also asked those guys to move, coz it was my business to make money! Is that so hard to understand?

  2. You should not think of how to keep the ants out of the water cooker. It's better to find a way to keep them out of your house. This is what I did and since they aren't in my house anymore they aren't in my water cooker as well. Problem solved!

  3. I just had a chat with the lady who sells Döner Kebab in Pattaya. Her investment was about 50K. All you need is a small kiosk in a good location. With 1 kebab spit per day -she told me- she can sell 180-200 portions which is 10,800 to 12,000 Baht per day. Her daily costs are lower than 4K/per day. It's a monthly profit of more than 200K. Enough for you? If you want to see people who became millionaire by selling Kebab then go to Sukhumvit Soi 5 in Bkk. It's only 20 meters inside the Soi on the right hand side. They offer chicken and beef kebab and soft drinks and within 1 hour they sell approximately 20-25 kebab at 60 Baht each. In only 12 hrs they make about 15-18K plus the drinks.

  4. Everyone can attend a language course whenever he/she wants it, no matter what kind of visa he/she has. An ED-ED-Visa allows applicants to stay for a longer period (e.g. many years). Actually,... people who are on an ED VISA and REALLY interested in learning a language, wouldn't complain about the new rule (8 hours in class every week). Only the people who are looking for an easy way to get a long term visa are doing that. They are not interested to learn. All they want is a visa.

  5. The time during semester break is the time where Thai parents don't know what to do with their kids. So give them a few baht to go to the next Internet shop playing onine games or to meet friends. I have rarely seen Thai parents doing family activities, playing games together, etc. Even when they go to the beach together the parents sitting in the shadow, eating Somtam and drinking Red Label Whisky.... but not an eye on their kids. They give them a motorcycle and never care if they are wearing helmets or not. Nothing has changed and nothing will change! T.i.T.

  6. Forget to find a list! Attending a Thai language course is the BEST investment you can do. Even just a 20 or 40 hours course helps you a lot. Otherwise the Thais will treat you as a KWAI (buffalo) for the rest of your life in LOS, because you need their help for every little thing. What a shame!

  7. Forget the book! Attending a Thai language course is the BEST you can do. Even just a 20 or 40 hrs course helps you a lot. Otherwise the Thais will treat us Farangs like a kwai (buffalo) because we need their help for every little thing we do, even just to order our food. What a shame!

  8. Very easy to check that everything is okay with the car.

    1. Ask to see the blue book. No original book - No deal!

    2. Compare the name of owner in the book with the person who is going to sell the car. Ask for ID card. If that matches then....

    3. Make a small cash deposit (e.g. 10,000 Baht) to show your interest in buying that car.

4.Go to the transport department together with the seller and register the car on your name.

5.If everything is done go to your bank with the seller and pay the full amount or give him a cash cheque in exchange with the blue book.

But. .... before you do anything of this go to a garage to check the car. Buying a 2nd hand car is always a risk. Be careful if the car is CHEAP, because normally second hand cars in Thailand are quite expensive. Probably it's better to buy a new one.

  9. The fact is: If ED visa is required not more than for 6 months the students must attend the class 4 times per week and 2 hrs each time. For a 1 year ED visa it's 5 days per week and 2 hrs each time. If Immigration officers come to check and the students are not in class the visa will be canceled.

Asking for the reason the Pattaya Immigration told us, they only want the people applying for ED visa who are REALLY interested in studying and not using the ED visa as a possibility to stay in Thailand in a cheap way. In the past, most of the ED visa students didn't study at all, they said.

As a result of this new law the ED visa fee must increase according to the higher amount of teaching hours (about 70,000 Baht per year) plus the new fees (5,000 Baht) every 3 months to pay at the Immigration. I'm sure that not many people can afford that.

  10. I'm running 2 language schools here in Thailand since 7 years (without having a Thai wife) and here is my advice: Don't listen to anyone. No one knows it exactly. First of all your wife needs a bachelor degree to get a license. Then go with her to the MoE department and ask what they require. Even the officers are very friendly and helpful but you will be lucky if both of you can do what they require. They are very strict, but fair. It's a real hard work to go through the process, because the paperwork is a lot. Don't try to offer tea money to make it easier or faster. It could destroy your plans. I know many people who tried to open a language school. They rented a building, bought all furniture and equipments, hired office staff and teachers, but they weren't able to bring all the documents they requested and to set up everything in the right way (e.g. the building, classrooms, etc). At the end they had to close down the school. Don't expect that anyone is waiting for a farang to open a school. The expectations are very high, the investment is high as well but the course fees are low and if you want to offer quality teaching with well trained teachers (this is what we do) then it's not easy to charge more because of the competitors. Some schools offer individual teaching (1:1) for only 250 Baht per hour. I really don't know how they can survive. To open a bar is much easier. Anyway GOOD LUCK!
