  1. There is a shop in the small shopping mall right across the street from the Intercontenental Hotel in Bkk. The hotel is very near Central World right on the Suk, the BTS station is Chit Lom. As exit the station stay on the sky walk heading towards Central World, the little mall is on your left and has a big modern McDonalds fronting it... there are several shops that specialize in outdoor equipment plus a highend bike shop... The shop that sells the Gps/ cell phone holders is in the vicinity of the shops I mentioned... They sell kits plus pieces and parts to build your own mount...I would plan to get there before 7pm as they tend to close early....

Sent from my GT-N7000 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Thanks for the info; could you pinpoint it at google maps and give the coordinates(right click whats here); would it make even more easier to find(or put in your GPS)wink.pngthumbsup.gif

  2. Another Pattaya bashing thread?w00t.gif

Isn't there a quota system in effect on that?

I love Pattaya bashing threads, especially when performed by up country guys with bar girl wives they met in Pattaya. The hypocrisy is wonderful !!! Plus since I live here, I can easily judge the accuracy of the bashing comments...

Not living in Pattaya and not bashing on it either, but when you state critics general being married to bar girls makes me wonder who unbiased

you are "easily judging the accuracy of the bashing comments".............whistling.gif

  4. Not true.

even though a good forum they are incorrect.

One of the legal sites has a copy of the act in English. Search for Por Ror Bor.

If you do not have it you can be fined 10000baht and also liable for injuries..

I think the confusion it that techically since that date the insururane is recorded on youjr tax disk by the traqnsport department. Although police still ask for it you technically do not have to carry your insurance papers if you have a tax disk. It will still cost you though.

No Por Ror Bor no tax disk.

No Por Ror Bor no tax disk. TRUE! Just renewed mine; without Por Ror Bor the Tax disk is not been sent to you

  6. Being a relatively newbie to TV I also was touched and moved by your story Steve. Wish you good luck on the aftermath of your

operation and sincerely wish you do can get some quality out of the life that is hopefully still given to you.

  7. so the only way i can get it legal again is to find out who the owner is and track them down?

    is that correct?

any idea how i could go about that? could i talk to the traffic office here and ask them to contact the last registered owner??

That is a lot of work for a $300 bike eh?

depends how rich / lazy you are i suppose.......

it just a shame to let a nice bike go to waste..... i feel she wants to be back out there amongst the oil and grime and soi dogs, but at the mo she is just gathering dust down our side alley....... like a caged and shackled tiger sad.png

you give her a good-night kiss too?

  8. Many TV members have had check ups at hospitals in Bkk.

Personally I've had them at Bumrungrad, Samitivej and Bkk Christian. All were fine in terms of efficiently doing the tests but only Samitivej did a reasonable job of reviewing the results, that tends to be the weak link in the process. There is a tendency both to overlook significant abnormal findings and to mistakenly give importance to minor variations of no importance, and i ngenera not to put much thought intop it nor analyze in context given the specific individual's history etc. Samitivej on the other hand did a good job on all of those counts. I like both Dr. Phuchai and Dr. Snchana there.

The other glitch is that you need to know yourself what tests you need. The packagers are designed for Asian populations and not that well thought through (I have yet to see a single one that is appropriate for post-meonopausal women, for example).

At 50+ you should have: CBC, ALT/AST. creatnine, fasting glucose, a a lipid panel (LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, triglycerides), PSA, stress test (unless you've had one recently) and stool test for occult blood. Other tests according to any specific complaints.

You'll find that the packages that include stress test them often also include an ultrsound of the upper abdomen, which you do not need. It's included because there is a high incidence of primary cancer of the liver in Thailand, but it is rare in western populations. Sometimes it is cheaper to get a lower end package and add on one or two things than to get the "higher ned" package complete with things you don't need.

Thanks for the excellent information once again, Sheryl. For a 63-year old male who swims daily, has BMI of 22, and a resting heart rate of 43, would the stress test be necessary? The last stress test I had was about 6 years ago and was normal.

As it has been 6 years, personally, I would.

  9. Just bought a motorcycle in Thailand and looking for a shop that sells special bike goggles or specs,

the glasses themselves MUST be custom-made as I am pretty much near-sighted.(Did see the bike

    that I bought clearly thoughbiggrin.png )

Went to several optical shops or bike-accessory shops, first ones gave a general "non-available"; the bike shops do have goggles/sun-or protection glasses but unfortunately only with normal glass.

Found one shop at Paragon BKK, who sells Oakley but they have to send the the prescription-glasses

to U.S. to be made there.

Must be a more easy way or is'nt there????

    Does anyone know a shop around BKK/Pattaya that provide motor-cycle goggles/protective eye-wear

    with prescription glasses?

    Suggestions welcome!!!

  10. To all forum-members who contribute useful information to this topic; I would like to thank you as it give me some valuable insight

information about buying a motor-cycle, spare-parts,green-books, grey-importing, service and maintenance(and the lack of it) etc.:

Thanks very much for your input smile.png

FYI; just bought a second-hand yamaha dragstar 2009, well-maintained and with greenbook.

  11. As many of us choose chicken to be a regular companion in our daily meals and Thai kitchen favors it a lot; have to give

a warning about consuming chicken-meat(no pun intended)too much.

First the Thai governmental controls on food are sloppy and "mai pen rai" just like any thing else in Thailand.

But over the last year I was confronted with 2 Thai friends, one developing gout and the other one developing kind of

    breasts(while being not fat).

To cut a long story short, both went to (different)hospitals, doctors analyzed their food-consumption and they ate both large

portions of chicken. Doctors told them in Thailand chicken-meat is stuffed with grow-hormones and anti-biotics, beyond

any level acceptable in e.g. Europe or U.S.

    In fact supermarket-chains who import large quantities of chicken-meat, have their own "food-control" inspectors here;

chicken-farms which are not under contract(the vast majority)use any method to raise their profit quickly and scrupulously

  12. I find it hard to believe he got fired, they normally transfer them if they been a bad boy.

Only thing he did wrong was getting caught on video, everybody know a police man can't live well on his salary and has to make extra money to support his family.

It's a general believe Thai policeman are underpaid; yet I never see any evidence of this anywhere to substantiate this. Asked my Thai GF and(for what it's worth; just an individual opinion and not able to verify)she told me once a policeman graduates from "police-academy"; he starts with around Baht 10.000 . Granted not a royal salary but then again many common company/office-workers get less. Others?

  13. I have been a happy user of Kasikorn for many years now. The web service is easy to use and I pay all my bills, transfer money and top up my mobile phone through it. I even have a virtual Visa card to purchase things off the net. Only problem is I can't seem to pay TOT through Kasikorn! but everything else is great.

Use Kasikorn Cyberbanking and am very satisfied with it. Also the call-centre can be recommended; once lost a password while in europe; called and within 2 hours everything fixedsmile.png

  14. I think the op needs to actually decide what sort of bike he wants ,seems he hasn't mentioned once even what style of bike he wants.

I think the op needs to actually decide what sort of bike he wants ,seems he hasn't mentioned once even what style of bike he wants.

Mentioned in the first thread I was looking for a bike in the 900 ccm or up class; that leaves a lot of options indeed. General outlook is to a have bike with which I can make trips through

Thailand and neighboring countries with my best friend, who will join me to live in LOS end of the year. As the days of Hayabusa high speeding are (far) left behind me, I opt now for

a more cruiser type of bike; shaft or belt-driven and torque more important than speed/hp and with saddlebags that can be attached. Like Jbrain stated the optimum for me would be a

Yamaha MidnightStar or comparable(Honda VTX 1800); the minimum being a Yamaha Dragstar, Kawasaki Vulcan or comparable.

  15. Will stay away from grey-importers who can't provide the green-book and have to cut much bureaucratic red-tape

Who told you grey importers can't provide the green book? I have the green book, not a bogus book but one delivered straight from the department of land transport.

If you do it the right way there are no problems.Mind you also that my bike wasn't imported in parts, but in one piece.

No red tape to cut or backhanders, just deal with the right people.

Based on speaking to many bike-enthusiasts(both farang and Thai)I would at least say the (vast)majority of grey-importers can't/will not provide

the greenbook; suppose every herd has one "white sheep" too

Or you could say, people at the sideline always know better.

This my 3rd import bike, all were with legal green book and I have many friends who have imported bikes all with legal green book.

Of course I can name you the dealers you have to stay away from, and they are also well bespoken on this forum.

Another fact is that many " bike enthusiasts " refuse to shell out the extra money for the green book at the time of purchase, because it is no problem to ride without a book, and when they found out that in fact it is a problem it will be too late to get it legal. So let's blame the dealer then.

It should also be a known fact that older bikes can not get a legal green book as they will have no chance to pass the emission test.

As I said, if you do it the right way, then there will be no problem but don't expect to get it in under the table since that door has been closed recently.

how i can say this in a polite manner; generally speaking i'm not

expecting too much from people who show their self-esteem is a bit on

the delicate site; a disagreement can make

them feel revengeful, yet they need it. last thread from me on this and enjoy your bike!!

  16. There is a Yamaha big bike shop on Sukimvette in Pattaya. Right next to the true value store Soi Khao Talo. They have a bunch of little bikes outside & a small amount of show bikes (imported) for order. I think its name is Yamaha watersports. they also sell jet ski's & such. I found the staff to be kinda rude & not to knowledgeable at all about their product. Kawasaki is much easier to deal with instead of duh I dunno can write them & find out in about 3 weeks. they walked me on a chance of a sale on a 600 or larger. I bought Kawasaki instead. They were able to answer basic questions. Good luck. If their service shop is as poor as the sales that will be one hella bike to get repairs done on. Pattaya is nor renound for big bike repairs. You have to beg them to adjust your valves & bring them the guages to check the clearances on the valves.

Watchara Marine is printed on the big sign out on the street. Yes, they don't seem interested in customers there.

Watchara Marine has been named(or should it be shamed)several times so their reputation can't be tied down to one grumpy/dissatisfied customer; you have been warned. Can we roll up

the sausage from the other end and recommend sale/maintenance for their good or even excellent service? Are there "white sheep" or is this utopia in Thailand?
