My insurance company is MUANG THAI LIFE INSURANCE, they offer health insurance combined with life insurance. (life insurance is just a small amount, I think it is due to company regulations). I entered at 71, two years ago, inpatient premium is 135.000 Baht, i have no preexisting issues. Premium is modestly increased every five years. The company was founded in 1951 and "was the first life insurance company to be appointed under the royal patronage of King Bhumibol Adulyadej", Wikipedia. Where I live, the insurance company has a very helpful English-speaking representative. Anyone interested may send me a board mail.

Perhaps I have missed this aspect in all these many posts. My girlfriend is a recognized “poor person” and is registered as such. All treatments at the hospital are free of charge for her and she can also travel free of charge on state buses. She also receives a monthly allowance for “poor people”. I have supported her with substantial amounts over the past year. Does anyone know in the forum whether I can declare these amounts in my tax return and if so, under which item? Also is there a threashold?

I live in a small soi around the Index area. Try these sois around the Hua Hin hospital. There are a couple of nice houses. My neighboring house is empty since 9 years. It is for sale only (not rent). As far as I heard they reduced the price but still should be around 4 M. And, of course, buying a house in Thailand requires Thai citizenship.

As for your other concerns: Hua Hin is build along the coast line and stretches 15 kilometers in width. Also a lot of houses and resorts have been build during the past years beyond the hills, so it is necessary that you need some means of transportation. Rent is tolerable for long time renters. Should be anything between 10.000 and 20.000, depending on your preferances. I am living here since more than 20 years and I still think it is decent place. What are the cons: poorly maintained roads, the terrible sidewalks are not a glorious chapter for a so-called “paradise city”, scattered rubbish dumps everywhere. As there are only two roads for entering Hua Hin from the north, traffic congestion is a big issue, especially during holidays. Well, come and find out yourself

My GF has 1 Rai land upcountry (Sakon Nakhon) and plans to offer part of it for rent for making a new 7/11 in the area. The land is located on a major rural road, large road side, plenty of space, between two villages, no 7/11 around within 20 km, chanot, electricity, water. Does anyone know who to contact? Not saying there are no other options I agree 100% percent. This is really an annoying and rather maddening nonsense, which you find in more and more restautants and bars today. The louder the more Sanuk. The sheer level of noise prevents any sensible conversation. Seems Thais are afraid to talk to each other. Worst place here in Hua Hin is the well-known Baan Khun Por place, where you have to shout to each other with full force just to say simple things. It's so sickening. The Thais never complain, it is part of there culture. The restaurant owner thinks when he plays laud music it makes the guests feel well. The louder the more Sanuk. I wouldn't mind some nice background music, but why restaurants have to be turned into live performance shows I will never understand.

I am familiar how things work in government hospitals, anyhow, thank you for detailed description of processes, and esp. for the freezing environment, which I also experienced at the Institute of Dermatology the other day. So i will keep this in mind. In HH hospital creatinine values differed a lot in several checks from 163, 1,53 and then 1,75. So still high. eGFR was 45,08 an then 38,32 Ultrasonography showed kidneys in small size: 8.3 and 7.9. It is time to have a more in-depth examination carried out. Can anyone recommend a nephrologist in a government Hospital in Bangkok? I am diagnosed stage three renal failure (from Hua Hin hospital) and would like have a more in depth analysis of the root cause and possible treatment. I have already some experience with state run hospitals (in other matters) and would like to prefer one of those. Doctors usually speak decent English and I speak enough Thai to get around with the nurses. Maybe Sheryl has some good advice…

This green moss is extremely dangerous. I think I saw warning signs out there, but some visitors may not see them or underestimate the danger. It can't be said loud enough: Don't step on the moss!!! And yes it is Pak Nam Pran Beach.

Apart from the little green buses cruising the main road up and down there is no public transport in Hua Hin. The mentioned Hua Hin Car Company Limited is a private company presumably offering private transportion services.

I got a ticket for passing a red light in the middle of Hua Hin. A former neighbor came to bring me the ticket as I had changed my living place in the meantime. I went to the police station but they send me away as paying the ticket is done at the post office. I went there and paid but was not asked for my driving licence. As a warning: Respect the red light of the main crossing on Phetkasem Road of roads 77 and 55 as it is heavily armed with CCTV and many reports in the meantime.

This camp is really off the beaten track but a little treasure in itself. Way back in time we enjoyed picknicking on the green lush riverside meadows of the Pranburi River and even bathing in the shallow waters. The camp is well worth a visit not only for nature lovers as many places/installations can be accessed free of charge or with a small fee (swimming pool). It even has its own hospital and a small evening/night market. The camp is vast in exent. So be sure to have your own transportation. At the entrance you have to leave an id document, which you will pick up when you exit. Enjoy!

As for the green songtaew (the locals call them "rot takiab") the price increased to 15 Baht (previously 10). As to my knowledge prices for motorcycle taxis have stayed the same. They might range from 30 to 60 Baht, depending on distance.
