Try again. A customer of mine had downloaded a smartphone application, typed in something in English or German, and the phone spoke perfect Thai, and displayed a perfectly written Thai text. Must admit it was a simple sentence though (I will go home), not sure if it would function well with something more complicated.
no. Not really.I not speak Isaan but with google translator iPhone and iPad is easy to talk with the people I write something in German and the phone talk thai!

No. Key money is a Chinese tradition: relatively low rent, but on signing the contract key money has to be paid.Funny thing is that the greedy westerners started the key money thing in Phuket. Sub leasing and making a killing.
Monkey see, Monkey do and now its common place.

Places where they make bamboo gazebos should be able to make one for you quickly, but maybe bamboo isn't acceptable for you.

Don't like it if in this type of thread, where somebody who wants to start a bar/restaurant asks a technical question, people chip in with comments like: " If I may ask, how long have you known this Thai woman you want to start a restaurant with? Take this piece of advice from an old Thailand hand my friend, yack yack yack"
Maybe answer the guy's question if you can, but don't patronize him, refrain from advice he didn't ask for.

The Quote function doesn't seem to work properly today. Confusing, you cant see who has said what.
Hans, you said "Bitter in khao lak. More likely than you think." Was bitter a typo, should it have been better? But either way I wouldn't understand, please enlighten me.

You'll find a lot of places on http://khaolak.de , click on the English flag to get it in English.

Patong, bar, restaurant, staff.
Mix it all together and what do you get?
Lighter pockets.
Irrelevant, if you can't answer the OP's question just stay out.
OP, you might also put up a sign saying in Thai "staff needed". And I hope you will belong to the successful minority, good luck.

Every bank has its own policy about which banknotes they accept for exchange. A batch of somewhat older 50 Malaysian Ringgit notes I had was rejected by the Katsikorn Bank, but accepted by the Bangkok Bank. Even at the Katsikorn Bank they told be that that type of 50 Ringgit notes still could be used no problem in Malaysia itself.

i guess driving away was the give away he had something to hide... better luck next time, hopefully in 5 years or more
Are you really serious somebody being arrested with 50 Euros worth of marijuana should be sentenced to 5 years in prison? Oh wait, he is a defense volunteer, maybe you're afraid he'll be stoned whilst trying to defend you, and thus doing the job less effectively.

From Chalong Pier is only one ferry, Tigerline. From Rassada Pier in Phuket town there are more options.
Steven and others, can anybody confirm Tigerline really has a regular ferry service from Phuket going south? Real life reports please, I can find the website myself.
In the course of the years, I asked this question several times, but never got an answer.

Leave Phuket to the Thai's - it's a sh*thole the same as Pattaya.
Thanks for your thoughtful comment. It would be highly appreciated if you could become a regular contributor to the Phuket forum.

Pakistan is free of corruption then?
I would think in Thailand, you should feel well at home,in this regard.
Pakistani, Indians and so on might be used to corruption, but this doesn't mean it annoys them less.

Don't believe they ever executed a westerner in Thailand, or am I wrong?

Could be outside territorial waters by now, or at least outside Thai territorial waters....isn't there any international supervisory body to report to when a ship has been lost?

I had similar issues with German passport. I went 5 years ago with wrong photo to the embassey. They where (for once) helpfull and pointed me to a photo shop nearby that knew exactly what the requirements were.
Now I got a new passport again a few werks ago. Meantime they have a photo booth inside the embassey. Very customer friendly.
Would it not be better for you to arrange new passport here in Thailand, instead of via Hong Kong
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
Exactly the same happened to me when I applied for a Dutch passport a few years ago, I was directed to a photo shop just across the road.
How surprised would the photo shop owners have been when German/Dutch embassy employees refused to accept a commission for this.

To those not living here for work/family related reasons who dislike the high season: it bugs me when you complain about the high season. Please respect that Thai families have to make a living. Why did you settle down in a touristy place like Phuket anyway, knowing it would develop further? Pack your bags and get a one way ticket to Madagascar.
This having said, glad that I live in Khao Lak, and not in Phuket, more breathing space here.

What I understood, social interactions take place more in the thread proposing the get together than in the actual meeting itself, if it materializes at all. It is an online community anyway. Last time KBB was highly entertaining, guaranteeing a heavy police presence in case the bickering between the board members would get out of hand.

After April 30 please. Quite a few people in here work in the tourism business, and cannot come during the high season.

I have been living at Ban Bang Niang, Khao Lak, Takua Pa, Phangnga since 2000. The high water line has been moving further inland constantly since at least as long as I have been here. Bungalows built 4 meter from the shore in 2005 now look like they're gonna collapse into the sea in the not too distant future. Individual beachfront land owners try to protect their land buy constructing walls, but it doesn't make much sense. Like the plot of land right next to it being empty, the water will come in from the side, and after some time the wall will be standing alone at the beach before collapsing some day.

Don't use ATM's in crowded locations, like JJ Market or shopping malls.
Rather thought it was like this: Don't use ATM's at isolated locations such as gas stations, where crooks have the chance to tamper with them at night.

To the OP, its OK we all make these mistakes. Everyone here in this forum has been played by a bargirl.
Some people choose to live with their heads in the sand and pretend like it didnt happen, they continue to shower them with gifts and buy them land in Isaan and houses in Phuket, the good thing is you recognized the problem early, hopefully you didnt make the mistake of putting a house in her name or buying the family some farming land.
....... everyone in this forum has been played by a bargirl.....????????????????????
Sure, crap. Besides that, never good to stereotype. The girl working in the bar might not have been there for long, or might just live on the salary/tips/lady drinks and not go with customers. She might make a good GF/wife. Don't accuse me of being naive/uninformed, I have been a bar owner for 6 years. On the other hand, a lady you met in the restaurant/travel agency might develop into a nightmare: she was working there just fishing for farangs with money.

Is not there a law that if you do not use land for 10 years, you lose certain rights? And a law which stipulates that squatters acquire certain rights after having used the land for 10 years?
I am not so sure about this, and I would appreciate it if somebody who has knowledge of legal matters like this, would chip in.

lol...maybe he hit a rock on the beach and tought he would go clean it out in the sea?
lol??? Relatives of the deceased guy might be reading this.
RIP to my compatriot.
