  1. The best thing about Phuket is..........

    Leaving

Leave as soon as you possiby can!

You guys should get together and post some more offtopic.gif crap...

Seems unavoidable that people who don't live in Phuket, or like in my case in the bigger Phuket area, come in here only to spew negativity. Just ignore them.

  2. Why does it have to be an island at all costs? There are a lot of lovely non touristy mainland beaches. There is a string of small beach resorts between Chumporn and Hua Hin, like Bang Saphan Yai, Bang Saphan Noi, Ban Krut, Thap Sakae and Sam Roi Yot. Or try Khanom or Sichon in Nakhon Si Thammarat province. You are not the only island seeking couple, islands tend to become touristy more quickly.

  3. Vachira has medical specialists in all fields, but they are all very young, fresh from university. They are obliged to work a few years in a public hospital, before moving on to a far better paid job at a private hospital. Of course when Daddy can pay this can be avoided.

I went to Vachira for a root channel treatment, and I was attended to by two young female medical specialists, real stunners, obviously freshly graduated. But they informed me I had to wait for one week and I was in considerable pain, so I went to the BPH where they have a good dental department. Vachira is far too crowded.

  4. On the way to Rang Hill last night for dinner and by coincidence seen the sign for Duzz. Never noticed before. Is it worth a visit Peter ?Yes has anyone else been to Duzz? I am also interested in a report.

    I've been.

Its open slather and they get naked be hind the curtains. Cute university girls just trying to pay their way through.

Well, that was the best advertisement they could possibly wish for. Guess tonight there is gonna be more of us there than at one of the official meetings. Put a T shirt on with your nick printed on it.
  5. Reading the forum, and talking a lot to tourists, consistently I get the impression that tourists feel happier than expats. Tourists keep telling me how much they like it here, and how mega friendly the Thai people are.

  6. Garbage being dumped some place inevitably attracts more garbage, hence all the signs at remote places saying in Thai: forbidden to throw away trash.

If you have a hotel, and you get stuck with garbage which cannot be chopped up and thrown into the green Orbortor garbage can,in many places your choice is:

A ) to burn it illegally, or

B ) pay somebody to take it away, who will probably dump it illegally

    Rum

Thought I had a bottle labelled Similan Rum, but rummaging through the liquor cupboard apart from Bacardi I only found Seabird Rum, is it any good?

When I used to have a bar, once when I was absent for a few days, my staff bought and served a type of gin which was called Harpoon. Months later some British expats who had been drinking at my bar one night during that period still complained about the terrible hangover that stuff gave them. They were harpooned....

After a six-hour wait, the judge informed the court that an English-Thai translator was not available.

Remembering his posts, written in poor English, a Norwegian-Thai translator would be more appropriate. Sure he would be able to conduct a conversation in English, but when it is about translating court proceedings there should be no room for misunderstandings. Reckon if I would run into similar trouble in say Australia, they would at least offer me a Dutch-English translator.
  8. Have you ever seen an old farang man that wants an old Thai woman for a girl friend or a short time. If so, he needs to have his head examined.

Well, I see plenty of farang men with 40+/50+ Thai GF's/wives, and they seem completely normal to me. To everybody his own thing. Those in their fifties/sixties who enjoy chasing girls who are around 20, should by all means keep doing so.

  9. Right. My recent experiences with KBank: transfer from South Africa arrived in 1 day, and from Germany in 2 days. All the customer needs is my name and account number, name of the branch office, and the SWIFT number.

I find KBank to be excellent. As for transfer of funds between Australia and the LOS. It usually takes about 3 hours for KBank to deposit the funds from my
National Australia Bank account, in Australia.[/size]
