Go to the Southern Bus Terminal in Bangkok and get a ticket for a night bus to Phuket, you'll arrive early in the morning at Phuket Town Busstation. From there take a shared taxi to the port (Ratchada). Avoid backpacker busses which travel agencies at Khao San Road (the backpacker ghetto in Bangkok) will sell.

Stay at the beach where the ferry arrives, the whole place is not bigger than about 2 square kilometers,.and walking around you'll find the good vibes soon enough. Plenty of young western women. When I was there myself a few years ago, I felt like a stegosaurus: when I had finally discovered a tourist who looked like he was about my age (50+) I felt like slapping him on the shoulder and inviting him for a beer.

I remember quite a few "lawyer" threads the last couple of years in which a lot of names were mentioned negatively or positively, wondering why nobody reacts now. Maybe that generation of posters has become extinct already.

You'll have to change trains twice, in Kuala Lumpur and in Butterworth opposite Penang.

Koh Phi Phi sounds like exactly the right place for you, it's a party island for young people, Ibiza in Asia. Have fun.

Cheapest places are unfurnished, but furniture you can buy locally at a low price, and maybe sell it when you move out.

Koh Si Chang is very quiet and untouristy. Once I went there coming from Pattaya, a bigger contrast was unimaginable.

When they were paving the soi in Hua Hin where I was running a bar, lots of big centipedes came into my place, nor exactly a good advertisement. Once I grabbed a kitchen knife and hacked one in 4 pieces, each of which walked off independently.

Never heard of snake powder, wouldn't the first rain wash it away? Or do you want to use it to prevent the snakes going into the bedroom from the living room?
Once somebody told me that in Australia they use a round type of gravel around the garden perimeter, snakes dislike slithering over it.

Tigerline travel does the ferry from Chalong to Langkawi. 10 hour trip. Sumatra would take much longer.
Would like to hear a report about somebody having used this service recently. Not so long ago, a customer of mine booked with Tigerline to be brought from Phuket to Koh Lipe. She was taken to a port just opposite Koh Lipe by a minivan belonging to another company, and was put on a ferry there.

There should also be a bus from the airport to Khao Lak, a lot of tourists would use this service.

This thread is so off-topic it is unreal.
Agree. Maybe not so nice for people who knew and loved the guy who has passed away.

I have a persistant problem with leakage in a room which is under a flat concrete roof. Removing the top layer of concrete, and putting new concrete in place, didn't solve the problem. Recently a builder put tar premixed with gravel on the roof, but also this didn't help. Later he tried to seal the cracks with epoxy, applying it to the ceiling of the room, but because of the concrete still being humid, the epoxy didn't stick in quite a few places.
Any suggestions?

Haggle with the drivers which will approach you when you step out of the arrival hall, you should be able to get it for 1200 Baht. Have the telephone number of the hotel in Khao Lak at hand, so that they, if needed, can explain the driver where the hotel is.

It doesn't feel right to me to sit somewhere for a very long time and hardly order anything, I have spent enough time at the other side of the fence, being a restaurant or bar owner. Last year I had to kill an hour and a half in between buying stuff and picking somebody up from the airport, so I settled down in a coffeeshop, where I had just one coffee. But I left 50 Baht tip on top of a 45 Baht bill, didn't want the people working there see me as kind of a freeloader.

What transport possibilities are there between Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang, how much do the different options cost, and roughly how much time do they take?

Well, the whole anti smoking trend certainly made me smoke less. There are more and more places where smoking is not allowed. But even if I were a non smoker, if I would operate a place like a gas station or a shopping center or a non smoking hotel, I would create a small area outside where smoking is allowed. People will smoke anyway, and if they do it somewhere clandestinely, things get messy.

If the guy has to flog timeshares, he obviously wasn't moving much product in the States.
Unless he started his stay in Thailand as a big spender.

If some people want to bring their kids and some don't want kids there, I suggest that it starts in the afternoon with kids allowed until a specified time.
Oh well. As far as Farang father/Thai mother families are concerned, I think a children cut off time would strike the Thai woman as a pretty bizarre concept. Maybe better if the venue sets up a children's room with toys and a television tuned to the cartoon channel, and maybe 2 adults to keep an eye on it.

When people ingest insecticides, it can happen they seemingly recover after a few days, but die maybe months later, when the poison has reached their organs. Don't know about weed killer.I also tend to believe the French guy didn't really want to die, but he should get a very thorough medical checkup.

This morning just before noon I was waiting in the car to make a right turn at the main road in Khao Lak, when I saw a farang passing by on a motorbike with a bottle of beer in one hand, sipping from it when he drove by.
The guy didn't look down and out, but still it made me reflect how different his lifestyle must be from mine.
In your country, what would the police do if they saw someone doing this?

One Two Go was horrible, cancelling flights all the time. At least Orient Thai nowadays has a considerably better record as far as that is concerned.

Kah Yao Noi and Koh Yao Yai, take the ferry from Bang Rong in northern Phuket close to the big roundabout, are still nice and quiet. But not much snorkeling to be done there.
