Almost all offices though are enforcing the requirement for a new TM30 to be filed (Notification from the House Master, Owner or Possessor of the Residence where an Alien has Stayed) when an alien has exited then re-entered and taken up residence again.
I rent from the building manager of a very large condo complex in central Bangkok. I never advise my comings and goings and I'd be very surprised if they lodge anything with Immigration. I simply include a copy of my lease when I make my annual pilgrimage to Immigration and have never encountered a problem

A rather unpleasant question here if you don't mind answering, How many Farangs get STD in Thailand? Not talking about HIV. Just normal STD, e.g. Herpes, Gonorhrea , Cold sores, Pubic Lices. Hepatitis B from body fluid interchange.
Where and why would such statistics be collected? Does your home country government collect such data on non-citizens and make it generally available?

Central Bangkok, proper 2br condo will cost you 45k/mo + electric + water + internet. Sure you can go cheaper but the line between living and existing isn't exactly 'fine'.
Seriously? I have friends living off Sathorn, and other living around Phra Kanong who are paying 30K for 110 sq metre 3-bedroom and 100 sq metre 2-bedroom

That's between the person and their embassy. Some embassies need full bank statements showing the income. I think if the Thai immigration people thought there was a serious problem about false declarations they'd tighten up on it very quickly. I have a vague memory of someone saying that their immigration office wanted to see bank statements to back up the embassy letter. At the end of the day - it's the immigration officer processing your application who decides, so be nice to him/her and don't look or smell like an unwashed hippie. :)
Not of course that I'm advocating any such thing (heaven forbid) but it's easy enough to dress up a passbook showing 65K deposits over a few months

Obviously I only mention the income method because a lot of people don't know how it works, and the advantage of not needing a bank account in Thailand, and the interest that can be earned on the 800K if placed correctly.
Plus of course with some embassies you can tell a pack of bare-faced lies because that's all they're certifying - that you told them, not that it's true

800K locked up is not needed if you use the income method
And have a regular income

I don't trust Thailand enough to put 800.000Bt in my bank account. I would rather leave it in my own countrys bank.
I agree. However I'm in the fortunate position of someone in Thailand having loaned me 800,000 baht which is a back-to-back fully secured loan by me to him in another country

I actually work in international trade and my employers would fire me if I wasn't assuming at least a 10% fall in GBP within two years.
That sounds like the same mentaility as "No one ever got sacked for choosing IBM" or "You can never go wrong implementing SAP". If your employers already "know" of a 10% fall in GBP why do they bother employing you?

One of the downsides of clearing away the street vendors in many places in Bangok is the difficulty of finding cut up fruit vendors. My lunch every day only costs me 20 to 30 baht when I can find one. Eggs on toast or muesli for breakfast - another cheap meal for the day. Am I up to 100 baht yet?

If you want to believe that site you are welcome.
My "beliefs" have nothing to do with it. Every Thai web site (remembering that we are, after all, in Thailand) uses the same language. That's all -
Apart from the fact that you won't get, and your friends don't have a "**retirement visa**"
Do you reckon it would be possible for you to pop over to the offices of Siam Legal and set them straight on this? Their web site has numerous references to a "retirement visa". And while you're at it, could you let them know it's not a "renewal" but an "extension". I think we owe it to the Thai immigration legal fraternity to set them right on these Thai immigration issues, don't you?- 1

As an aside, do all the banks have passbook update machines at Chaeng Wattana? I bank with Krungsri

In conclusion then - your greatness risk arises if you're driving a car. Day to day walking around without your passport or a copy is a very low risk activity

And I believe that if you don't like paperwork, if you leave Thailand after 89 days (or anything before 90 days), say go to Cambodia for a few days and then come back to Thailand ( re-entry permit) stay again for less than 90 days, you won't have to file the 90 day report stuff.
But if you're prepared to spend that sort of money just to avoid 90-day reporting there will be visa agents prepared to do it for you for less

I carry my passport with me at all times when I'm outside. I bought a "Kangaroo Pouch" from Amazon. I just adjusted the cord so it rests under my shirt and you would never know it's there. I believe I found it on Amazon... I think.
For how many years have you been doing this? How many times have you been asked to show your passport to a policeman?

No not at all the biggest problem is they quote for a job but have many jobs ongoing at any time. Then they quote for a bigger job with more money so guess what job they do. Its very family orientated here.

You'll have to make your own decisions here. I see a big difference between basing your life on a violation of the law and an occasional violation.
My view of "the law" is best expressed by Macbeth (about life, but applicable to most things including the law) "full of sound and fury, signifying nothing"

If one wants to live in a country it makes sense to do so legally and according to the intentions of the immigration laws. Do differently and dont be surprised if life gets more difficult.
OK so what's the general rule we're deriving here. Immigration laws are unbreakable but other laws can be broken?
