  1. Hey

I've tried 3 times to file my TM.47 (90 day report) online on their website but it was rejected all 3 times with the reasoning "Please update TM.30". I have done one 90 day reporting before (in person) so this is not my first time. However, since then I have moved to a new address but my landlord has filed the TM30 two weeks ago and I have the TM30 receipt so the TM30 is updated/accurate. On the TM47 I also made sure that the address matches exactly the address on my TM30.

Any idea what's going on? Do they want me to visit in person because I've changed my address? If so, it doesn't make sense to just say "Please update TM.30".

    Thank you.

Just be sure you get a copy of the TM30 receipt or a screenshot of it if done online. Before doing the 90 day report.

Is it possible to attach a copy of the TM30 when you file the TM47 online? My TM47 was rejected because "Please update TM.30". My TM30 is updated with my new address and I have a receipt. When you changed your address, maybe the first time you do the TM47 you have to do it in person?

If it is a floor drain that you don't use much, you can also throw a few Urinal deodorizer blocks in.

The blocks will eventually evaporate and dissolve,  so no risk of plugging the drain up.

Just don't add too many, it will give a potent smell if u have a window less bathroom

Is it for blocking the drain or are the roaches deterred by the smell?

They're coming in thru the pipes...you need to use two methods: Cover the drains with inverse covers to prevent acess...but also baits for the ones that will get thru other places so they can take back to the nest and kill the rest.

Thank you! Any recommendations for baits?

  5. Hey

We live on the 12th floor in a pretty old condo building in Bangkok and occasionally we see some cockroaches in our bathroom. It’s newly renovated and there’s no cracks in the walls etc so they must come from the drains. One time I saw one come up from the toilet as well. This condo was empty for 6 months before we moved in and the owner said once we start using water etc they won’t come here but that hasn’t been the case so far.

How can we get rid of them? Pour some chemicals or chlorine etc down the drains?

We’re following the general tips and making sure there’s no food etc available in the condo and overall it’s super clean. There’s not a lot of them either and they’re only in the bathroom. There’s no nest etc in the bathroom either so they must live in the drains.

  6. Hey

I’m in Bangkok and my building offers TOT Fiber2U with the fastest package at 1 gbps / 700 mbps. The building is only 60m from the station and I believe it’s FTTH. I’m a heavy user as I play games on EU and NA servers so low ping is important.

What’s your experience with TOT Fiber2U?

Will I actually get the speeds they advertise and get low latency to EU and NA during peak usage hours in Thailand?

  7. Hey

Im going to mail my tax returns (just a few documents) to the US and it needs to be mailed to an official government PO Box (CA). However, DHL says they won’t deliver to US PO Boxes and we called FedEx and UPS (all in Bangkok) and they all said the same thing. Sounds very strange to me. Especially since it’s a government PO Box.

Can anyone confirm if this is true? If so, how can I send mail from Thailand to a US PO Box?

They are not open on weekends. You can do your report 14 days before the report date to 6 days after the report date.

You will do your report at the Muang Thong Thani office.

You will need a completed TM47 form and your passport.

Sorry but do you have the address to the office where we should go in Bangkok? We were told that it wasn't the same massive government building in Chaeng Watthana where we applied for the visa extension.

Would like to help but a little confused by your question. I assume you were married outside Thailand. Is your marriage registered by the MFI ? If it is you should be able to get the KP22 from your local Amphur.

Yes, we got married in the US. Not sure what the MFI is or the KP22?

I think we've got the process correct. We got an affidavit from the US embassy to certify our marriage certificate and now we're translating both of those two docs to later have them certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Next we just need to go to the local amphur and give them all docs to get the kror ror 22. But, the question is if I need to certify my passport or not at my embassy? Some posts on this forum says you do and some says you don't.

    1. You just write that the marriage is true, correct and valid. You include where it was issued and the date.

    2. You use a blank affidavit form.  See: https://th.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/local-resources-of-u-s-citizens/notaries-public/affidavit/

    3. That is not done as a affidavit. The can certify a copy of your passport photo page if the Amphoe you go to wants it.

You marriage certificate and the affidavit has to be translated to Thai and certified by the Department of Consular Affairs DCA) of the MFA. Same for the certified copy of your passport if needed.

Info for the DCA legalization is here in Thai. https://consular.mfa.go.th/th/page/cate-6441-รับรองนิติกรณ์เอกสาร?menu=5d68c88b15e39c160c008184

More info is on the Marriage and Divorce forum.

I have moved this topic to there.

Thank you! Is there anything I should bring with me to the US embassy besides my passport, my wife (plus her passport), the affidavit and the original marriage certificate?

To certify the passport pages, I guess we just need to bring our passports and then the embassy staff will know what to do?

  11. Hey

I'm going to apply for the 1 year marriage extension. My Thai wife and I got married in the US so we first need to get the Kror Ror 22. To get that, from what I've learned here on the forum, we need an affidavit signed from the US embassy that confirms/certifies the marriage certificate. I wanted to ask you a few questions about that.

    1. What should we write on the affidavit? Been searching the forum but can't find anything.
    2. Which affidavit should we use? There's a few different forms/affidavits. If there's a link to the right form that would be very useful.
    3. One forum thread here mentioned something about including or confirming the passports in the affidavit as well. Any idea how you do that?

There was long wait times to get an appointment at the US embasy so we'll only have one shot to get it right before my current visa expires. Any other advice or something we should think about for this appointment?

I'm not a US citizen but I've confirmed with the US embassy that they still provide this service for non citizens so it should be fine. Just wanted to mention it in case it affects anything else.

    Thank you.

  12. Hi

Me and my wife are going to either Koh Tao or Koh Pangan around Christmas for a week. Which one of those two islands would you recommend going to? Partly considering the COVID situation which I assume affects the islands in various ways. We've been to Samui before and liked it but now we wanna try another island.

We like the beach, some nature adventures, good food and just relaxing. Party and scuba diving is not important.

    Thanks.

  13. Hi

Me and my wife are planning on going to Koh Tao and Koh Phangan for 3 nights in both places during Christmas. Mostly for beach and chilling, we're not interested in the full moon party. What is it like there now? Is it a good time to go?

Also, what's the fastest way to get to Koh Tao and Koh Phangan from Bangkok? Are the ferries still going as usual?

    Thanks.

You only need to file a tax form if the withholding is not correct.  If your broker withheld too much or not withheld enough, you will need to apply for a tax number to file form 1040NR to get a refund or pay the difference.

Estate tax exemption for non-resident non-citizen is only $60000. Anything above that is subjected to up to 40% tax.

Ok but everything else is correct right? I’m planning on starting to trade US stocks and ETFs but was worried about tax implications or the need to make filings or other complications but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Taxes like the estate tax upon my death is not a major factor for me.

  15. Hi

As a Thai resident, what US taxes does nonresident aliens (non citizens) have pay in the US when trading US stocks and US ETFs? And what tax related filings do we need to do in the US?

From reading some of the sources here below it seems like the only tax we need to pay is the withholding tax on dividends of 15% (if broker follows the tax treaty) but that’s typically handled by the broker and not very relevant for most traders. Capital gains and interest is not taxed. Estate tax is not relevant unless after death. It also seems like we do not have to do any tax filings in the US. Is this all correct? If so, then US taxes is not really an issue or a factor for Thai residents trading US stocks and ETFs.

IBKR is cheap, so that's a plus.  Service varies dramatically from excellent to hopeless.  I currently have major problems with their handling of dividends from stocks listed on the London Stock Exchange.  I have to spend a significant amount of time tracking what they're doing wrong just to make sure I'm not losing out.

IBKR is useless for mutual funds for non-Merkins.  (If you want mutual funds, then Internaxx is pretty much the only international broker to consider.)

IBKR does not report to the Thai tax authorities as things stand at the moment.  That may change.

Great. Thank you! Did you ever compare Charles Schwab and IBKR?

As a Thai resident, do you know if you can fund your IBKR account with a US bank account or would they only accept Thai bank accounts?

  17. Hey

I'm Norwegian, my wife is Thai and we got married in the US during a holiday trip. We're now planning on registering our marriage in Thailand (Kror Ror 22) so that I can get my 1 year visa extension as we will now live in Thailand. The only assets I have is cash saved in all three countries and I keep saving even during our marriage. I do also own a US company, but that company was founded before we got married.  I'm not a Thai citizen nor a Thai permanent resident. In case of divorce, in which country should we get divorced? Thailand, Norway or the US?

If we for example get divorced in Thailand, could she then get part of my assets in the US and Norway or does she have to go to court in both those countries to get the assets that I have in that country?

    Thanks.

  18. Hey

I came to Thailand on a 90 days non immigrant O visa based on marriage and I will get the 1 year extension based on marriage next.

However, to get some extra time before I’m starting that process, is it possible to first get a 60 day extension before my 1 year extension?

If it works, how do you get the 60 day extension and what documents do you need?

    Thanks.
