  1. Seems not an easy task to get one, however these lucrative deals push me further to enquire about cdit cards, i guess the best way out is to deposit an amount of about 70 to 100k and then get one. Based on card to card approval probably after 6 months of usage i can apply with another bank..

Thats the way it goes in my country , get one card based on it get another and so on, the best part is that the bank issuing credit card never gives li it less than the previous one you gave for reference. For eg if i give citibank credit card statements to icici then my card limit will be 170 or 200 percent of what i had with citi..

  2. As I eat out a lot, this happens more often than some might think ... getting UNDERCHARGED.

Yes, getting overcharged is more common but this is about when you're undercharged at a restaurant in Thailand.

It happened to me again last night.

I "complained" about the bill, well the staff assumed I was complaining because why else would you question a bill.

It seemed to really shock the staff that I was insisting they put ON an item they forgot to charge me for.

I reckon they thought I was totally bonkers and perhaps they're right.

Well this was a place I am fairly regular at and I didn't feel right about getting a freebie there unless they explicitly say, this is a special freebie for you, going back there and being remembered as someone who underpaid before.

But I do that in any restaurant here ... insist on paying for all I should be charged for.

Perhaps that is "very white" of me but conditioning dies hard.

So how do you react when you're UNDERCHARGED in restaurants in Thailand? Do you just let it go?

My situation was very similar, had the same experience thrice i believe, when i asked them to add on charge for another dish or drinks, they would thank me for doing so and yes they are surprised cuz i believe its not a very common practice out here, i mean thats my best guess, not sure..

I was very surprised once when i asked a young lady to add on another 40 baht to the bill because the big chicken cutlet i ordered was supposed to be 120 and not 80 baht to which she replied the bill is correct actually as it was not a full plate of what i had ordered, little more than half dish but not full as her stock for chicken was over for that day, to which i was surprised. She thanked me for being generous.

Finally respectfully joined her hands, bend a bit and very politely said khapun khrap....

You get an apple for an apple. Land of smiles.

  3. Hi all,

I would like to seek your advice regarding credit card application and approval chances in ant thai bank. I have seen many offers like free EMI's for 10 months, discounts and promotions which you can opt for only if one has a thai credit card.

I have checked out with few friends about the same and they told me its pretty hard for foreigners to have one, however i have witnessed many farangs using credit cards issued by thai banks.

I have 2m baht company and a valid work permit, which bank should i approach in order to get a credit card without much hassle. On papers i have put my salary 35000 thb, however this is a new company that i have set up recently.

Any suggestions about the kind of limit offered?

  4. My umbrella was quite expensive so I'm not keen to throw it away if it can be repaired, which I'm hoping is possible in Bangkok (it's simply a matter of replacing two of the spokes).

Anyone know where I could get this done?

You can always get it fixed online

  5. Ive seen loads of bag packers who will walk for several miles to save 15 to 20 baht bus charge, when i ask them as to why they make demselves suffer dis way, to which most of dem reply its more of an achievement to travel x number of countries and survive for several months or years in a very limited budget and few of them take it as an survival experience of life. I met a traveller who had plans to head forward to few south asian and south american countries for around 1 year with a budget of 6000 dollars. Ive seen rooms as cheap as 100 baht per day in bkk and mostly fully occupied. I fail to understand this idea at times but i respect it as altogether a new wAy of surviving. These guys have nothing like 6000 dollars. If they're on a survival course , good luck to them, but I think that sitting in busy bars at prime time without spending any money shows a lack of respect for the business owner and the staff. My favourite backpackers are the ones that travel thousands of miles to come to Chieng Mai to sit in the gutters late at night drinking Chang. I wonder if they ever sat in the gutter drinking beers back home. Along the moat and around along Rajavittee rd seems to be the favourite spot for that, particularly late at night. That side to them I think is quite funny. Almost as funny as the ones that think they're going native by walking around town barefoot.

Again we canot stereotype bag-packers, where you find good fishes you will surely find bad ones and not so good ones as well. Budget travelling and cheap travelling are different.

I believe one can travel at a limited budget but not at the cost of skewing up others. I understand your point.

Losworld, your pm's are out of order. Your questions were already answered in my posting, the rest you have to do yourself. Still you ask me for specific advice with the remark that you're on a "tight budget". Which, in my views, means 'I don't want to pay for advice or services but want to reel them in for free. Neither do I want to understand any of this or put some energy in it to go after it myself.'

If you expect me, or anyone else, to hold your hand while you do this, you have an other thing coming, mate.

It is hilarious though, that your " friend" bought an ice machine in China, paid for it in advance, have it send here (if they really did that) without any research or preparation for the whole thing before ordering. Let's just hope that the Chinese intent is genuine...

For others: I'm not a shipping or import agent and do not answer personal questions about import or export procedures. Everything you need to know can be found on the web, just google for it. I did it and found everything I needed to know. So why would you not be able to do the same?

This is an useful platform to help out each other, share news, events and ask for opinions or advice. OP was not directed towards you as an individual but when you responded back probably losworld felt you are in a better position to guide him. If everything can be googled whats the point of having this community , you shouldn't have replied at the first place.

  9. I just bought some clothes from the US and the company i bought from ships via iparcel who adds on the tax and vat to the shipping fee i paid. I dont mind because its so hard to find 5xl in thailand. Now tracking says its in thailand waiting on customs etc. i will keep u posted if thai postal try's to get more $ from me when they deliver

are you serious , do u think they will charge for ur clothes. I guess not, let dem know nowhere in thailand you can get 5x size so had no option left dan 2 order it outside thailand.

  10. If I was to buy something from the US or Europe while in Thailand (and have it shipped to me in Thailand of course) would I have to pay any custom fees?

It all depends on the customs guy at the time processing your goods. I bought a $200 Polar heart rate monitor from the US and I paid no tax at all, I also bought some $200 motorbike boots from the UK and they hit me with a 4000 baht customs tax. Bought weight gain powder from the UK and paid nothing the first time then 800 baht the next time. Like I say all depends on day.

Very true, nothing happen as per books. Period

You can take measures , like invoicing them fairly, stating them as stuff for personal use and not commercial.

  11. I regularly import many products to thailand via air and sea cargo, my products are bulky so usually if the CIF value is less around 60 to 80 dollars and on the declaration and goods invoice you have mentioned personal use items and samples then the goods come via green channel or else customs charge duties, which depends on Import duties percentage. Duties on commodities may range anything from free to 40 percent of CIF value + Cess charge, so better declare them as samples under 40 to 50 dollars, there have been times when i have got material without duties and at times paid over 60000 baht.

Better to have port to port shipment and get goods cleared by self if the cost is pretty high and its bulky, In thailand you need not to be an shipping agent or duty clearance expert to go and talk to the customers. All you need to do is go to the port, submit your passport or any other id like wp or dl and they issue you an pass for 40 or 60 baht, which allows you to talk to custom officer incharge and get your goods cleared.

Once goods go to the red Chanel, you will have to pay some duties.

  12. Don't listen to all of the BS about runt of the litter and hereditity problems. You now have the dog and believe me if you treat him right he will be a friend for life. My avatar was the runt of my last litter. Since moving here I have had 54 golden pups all born and raised in my house, no pens and no cages. One time I had 23 running free without any problems. All slept in the house at night. Sure he might have heredity poblems such as hip displysia but I guarantee that if you treat him as a member of your family he will amase you with his love and faithfullness. Goldens are a wonderful loving breed. Good luck!

thanks for being so supportive. this comes from d bottom of my heart, thanks mate.

  13. I understand what you mean to say but won't this practice result in weak bonds between the puppy and his owner as he will be staying in a different environment with different set of people for initial few months for training , I mean once his training period completes and he returns back home, won't that emotionally deprive him of the trainers who were his instructors at the training camp. is that an issue or nothing to worry about ?

Not really an issue as at some point there will be direct interaction between you and the dog at the training center. Plus, your initial bonding period has already started. We have a sponsor in the Chiang Mai forum who is a trainer and here is a pdf file of the method they employ.

    Training Courses .pdf

Of course this is in Chiang Mai but you can look up trainers in Bangkok or post for recommendations/experiences.

thanks for the info provided, I strongly feel that got to enrol him in one of these program's this will give me ample of time to shift over to a better place for him and at d same time he will be groomed as well. makes sense.

  14. So, you bought a 40-day old puppy that should have stayed with its mother 8-10 weeks into Condo knowing that you aren't allowed to have pets.

No reputable breeder would allow you to take a dog so young, so it sounds like an impulse purchase at Chatuchak.

This story does not have a happy ending for the dog.

    Bingo!

Chatuchak is the clearing house for dodgy, get rich quick breeders of questionable morals.

Chances are you bought the runt from an inbred litter and it is probably infested with all sorts of diseases and hereditary problems.

Next time, buy a squirrel or a guppy. Less headache.

it's not that bad. 1 can't be sure about that, they have good and genuine breeds as well.

  15. OHHH GAUUDDD I am so tensed as I don't want to let go this gold. I have multiple options of letting him stay at some thai friends restaurant or parlour or several shop owners i know close by but don't want that to happen. hope god helps me and I find a quick permanent solution.

Another option is to put him into a training school which takes up to 3 months for full obedience training. I think it would make things much more comfortable with you and him as he needs to be socialized among other people, dogs and children. It will pay in the long run.

  16. however I take full responsibility to ensure he is a happy life.

Good to hear that. They are remarkable dogs and will bring you a happy life also. I have to admit I cringed at reading the OP and the idea of keeping him in a condo and glad to hear you are looking at alternate living arrangements. We had a pedigree GR that weighed in around 45kg and not overweight but had a house with large yard and a waterway nearby for his swims. Sadly he passed on last year at 10 years of age.

Be sure to make regular appointments to see the vet and be sure all his inoculations are kept up to date. Believe he is still too young for the inoculations but check with a vet and put it on your calendar.

I have everything in place, starting off from his vet schedule and dates, watching videos about training them, flooding, shampoos, combs, nail cutters, collars for inside and outside house. I pay monthly rent here for 15000 baht, however I am tied up into an contract which still has another 7 months left. All I need now is a decent place for him.

I am sure I can get a suitable place for him real soon, my main work premise areas are jatuchak , wat rachanadataram and I have clients all over bangkok. I am seriously looking for options available. infant today the receptionist saw him but kinda ignored it as I treat them with due respect and I am in good books of admin and security staff. however I know this hide n seek is not good practice.

I am a responsible person and now I am fully aware about the kind of surroundings this puppy needs. didn't had much info before but now gather enough to make a logical and sensible decision. I would move out of here real soon and I believe 7 weeks of time is good enough for a puppy to be with his mother. I am really looking forward to quick solution of this situation as I was so tempted to buy this when I saw him as chatuchak that couldn't stop myself, however I take full responsibility to ensure he is a happy life.
