I would like to open a U.S. Dollar account in Thailand. Is it possible? If so, where?

Ronald Reagan wisely stated "We will trust but verify". I think that is smart in all aspects of life. I would never enter into any business deal with out doing some back ground checks and that especially includes marriage.

In America I installed a electric wire on a fence that my 2 dogs were jumping over. I installed the wire, got on the other side and called them. With great eagerness they jumped the fence and got shocked. After that, they wouldn't come closer than 3 feet to the fence. I left it on for about 2 weeks and accidentally got zapped several times by it. It didn't hurt but was uncomfortable and certainly got your attention. After several weeks I turned it off but the dogs never again jumped the fence. As I remember there was 2 transformers to choose from. One for cattle and one for small animals. I bought the one for small animals. If you google electric fence, cats you will see remarks about this being cruel. (Rubbish). If you combine the fence with a yellow plastic band, you can be sure that the cats, that will only ever touch the fence ONCE, will associate yellow plastic with discomfort. Seems like a waste of money to install something that will only get utilised once or twice a year, but it works. If you live near Buriram I can give you a cattle fence box, no guarantee, I haven't used it for 20 years. Needs mains 'lectrics though.

Wow! A civil servant lived very well during the reign of King Rama VI. And a 100 years later not much has changed. There are select civil servants with a life style much higher than the average man. I've always thought "civil servant" was somewhat of a misnomer.

Is your thai girlfriend OLD like youI too sold my 560 SM house in the USA, all my "stuff" and left behind a life time of friends. I discovered having lots of possessions including friends has it's obligations and is confining. I now live in a 120 SM condo and consider it huge. I have a lovely Thai girl friend, a few nice Farong friends here and lots of time for myself. I don't think I could ever fit in again in the US. I would just be another old man living alone. I have a grown daughter and a brother that I chat on the phone with each week and visit each year but other than that I have no connections with my past life.
My gf is 45 but looks 25. Each day we both spend an 2 hours in the gym or on the bicycle. It seems to work better for her than for me. No matter what I do, I still look 67. ;-)

I am wondering if the USA crashes like in the Great Depression, would social security payments still be safe, and what about peoples retirement from hospitals would that still be safe? Some of us live on this alone without savings, and have to live outside of there own country in order to get by.
It's not a matter of "if" but "when" will the US dollar crash. Remember this famous quote, "Something that is unsustainable won't last forever". I would imagine IMF/Federal Reserve will eventually downgrade the value of the dollar and we will be left with something with 1/2 the purchasing power. It will happen quickly and enexpectantly. Gold, land and foreign bank accounts are worth consideration prior to the inevitable crash. -
I live on the 27th floor in Pratamnok and lots of dust. After 6 months I cleaned the A/C filters and was shocked to see the dust build up. I can see it must be done every 2 months from now on. I have a great housekeeper that comes once a week and leaves it spotless.

There is a shop on the ground floor of Tukcom that specializes in Apple. It's located SE corner. It's set up like an Apple Store but I don't think it's a real licensed Apple Store. That being said, I have taken my Mac in for RAM upgrades and they did it quickly and without issue.

Most people want to "fit in" and dress to mirror others in the culture. In 1967 my buddy and I traveled by train to Mexico City to participate in a wrestling tournament prior to the Olimpics. The train had a 6 hour stop over in Guadalajara. Dressed in Bramuda shorts, T shirts and sneakers we went off to explore the city. From the reaction we got from the locals you would have thought we were stark naked. Men on the street would whistle at us and cars would slow while occupants ogled us. We were confused about all the strange attention until we bumped into another American who lived in Guadalajara. He told us that men ware pants in the city and Bramuda shorts are only worn only at the seashore. Things have changed a lot in 50 years in Mexico. Culture and dress continues to evolve all over the world - even in Thailand.

I ride my bicycle each morning along the beach in Jomtien and it's shocking how few tourists are there. I realize it's low season but to say that tourism is on the rebound is a bit optimistic.

I have never seen anyone benefit from "free money". In the USA parents have heaped money on their children only to have them become angry and useless adults. For years the federal government has given huge handouts to once proud segments of the population only to make them unhappy and more dependent on welfare. Having to make your own money encourages people to make wise decisions in life. Giving people handouts allows them to continue to make poor decisions with out the unpleasant consequences.

In December of 2013 I went to Numchai Pattaya and bought a washing machine, big side by side refrigerator, 36" TV, microwave, boshe toaster, boshe mixer, coffee maker, water filter, and blender. I also bought 3 water heaters as I was told they were not furnished with my new condo. I asked for the items to be held for 2 weeks until the condo was completed and cleaned. In the meanwhile, I discovered the builder was furnishing the water heaters. I returned to Numchai and asked that the undelivered water heaters be credited to the purchase of a 60" TV at a much higher cost. I was passed from one person to another and after several hours I ended up with the store manager who agreed to the credit but with an attitude. I paid the difference for the TV and as I was walking out the manager caught up with me and said "next year we will NOT allow any exchanges whether they are delivered or not" I thanked him for the information and told him that policy would not effect me as I will no longer shop there. He seemed pleased to have one less customer keeping him from his Facebook, games and texting on his Smartphone.
Bottom line is Customer Service is non-existent in Thailand and the customer is an interruption in a retail salespersons day.

That's a good idea except for the fact the chest measure aprox 1 M X 1 M. x .6 M. Unfortunately my condo isn't equipped with a walk in freezer. How nice it would be to lock myself in on a hot day like today. :-)Place it in a plastic bag and put it into a freezer for 24 hours. It will kill everything.

No, I'm not hilusinating on drugs. I really do have bugs in my Chinese wood chest. In the USA we call them powder post beetles. I would assume its a similar bug here. I've tried spraying the interior/exterior with a bug spray like Raid. It seems to slow them down but not kill them. Does anyone have a DIY solution or better yet know a reputable exterminator that could get rid of the little bastards.
Thanks

What a ridicules statement. Because you defend yourself from a biting wild dog you have a "violent and criminal behavior"??? While in the Philippines, I watched the 8 year old brother of my Filipina housekeeper die from rabies. It was a ugly and horrible death. It is estimated that there is 10 million stray dogs in Thailand and that 10% of the wild dogs in BKK carry rabies. I will do everything possible to protect myself against a dog attackWhatever you do, don't pepper spray any dogs. That's cruel! It could kill them!
The idea of treats is a good one.
Also carry a stick, just in case. If they see that they are likely to back off.
I have always found that people who resort to violence to control a few dogs are people I wouldn't like to be around because they would also use violence in other areas of their lives when confronted with adversity.
Since the 1970"s, research has consistently reported childhood cruelty to animals as the first warning sign of later delinquency, violence, and criminal behavior.

I ride a bicycle and always carry pepper spray to defend myself from the dogs. I have used it several times when dogs have been biting at my ankles. It stops them immediately. I carry a pepper spray brought from the USA but you can also make ipepper spray solution easily enough and shoot it from a spray bottle. Search You Tube for the recipe.
Another solution is this:
At the end of my Soi there were 15-20 dogs that waited in the street for me to ride by. They would circle my bike and attack me from both sides. I realized there was one red dog that was the pack leader and he would lead the assault. I decided to fight back and the next day armed myself with about 5 golf ball sized rocks. When the red dog charged towards me I hit him with a well aimed rock and he quickly retreated. I continued to throw the reminder of the rocks in his direction until he was well out of range. The next day the dogs saw me coming and retreated to a safe distance and I again threw a rock at the pack leaders direction. From then on, when the dogs saw me coming they would beat a quick retreat. I would often fake a rock throw to keep them worried. I "owned" those dogs from then on and never had a problem with them

Thanks to Dr Jonas Salk, who chose not to patent his vaccine thus making it accessible to all the world's lesser-developed countries.
For once, somebody did what was right, rather than what was profitable.
The current cost if the vaccine is just 10 cents (USD) per dose.

I'm 67 and if I remember correctly the Salk polio vaccine was administered in my 4th grade class 57 years ago. I wonder why it's taken so long for SE Asia to irradiate Polio? Just a lack of interest?

I have a Visa Card with Bank of America and have had no problem at all. I use it frequently.

Why is this a news story except for a morbid interest? Will those in authority try to remedy the life threatening dangers in Thailand? The answer is no! If there is no money in it then no one cares. Just throw the body on the heap and move on. Life is cheap and the carnage will continue unabated.

No it wouldn't have an effect on the Thai driver. The Thai's have a major disconnect with what we call "common sense" in the West.
-
" because this type of crime is ruining the tourism image of Pattaya city."
Yes, because it's not about what's right and what's wrong or about law and order. It's just about the money!

So if I don't like your post, is it ok for me to come over and slap you around with a stick?? Of course not! Why then is it ok for a grown teacher to physically abuse a defenseless child? I don't understand your thinking. So, what's wrong with a bit of punishment? We've all gone through it and it has made (the most of) us into upright, honest and good citizens. I'd congratulate any teacher in Thailand (on any other country for that matter) for teaching my kids a bit of discipline.
Why have we gone soft in the West?

Is it possible to open a U.S. Dollar account in Thailand

My thoughts were to transfer dollars in and take dollars out. But after reading the BKK Bank web site and the replays here, it doesn't sound that it works that way. Do all withdraws need to be in Thai Baht?
