On a two week motorcycle trip through California, Utah, Navada and Colorado my TGF would ask for Tom Yum Goon and Kow Pow at each restuarant we stopped. She was shocked each time they told her that was not on the menu.

If my TGF is any indication of how Thai people think, the car give away scheme is a winner. When we travel, she's always so impressed with the "free" soap, tooth brushes, tooth paste, mouth wash and ear buds at the hotel. When I told her the breakfast was also included with the room she was speechless. She asked why they would give away breakfast for "free". I trid to explain that nothing is free and the cost is included in the cost of the room. Nothing I could do or say could convince her that the breakfast wasn't free.

After living in the Philippines for 3 years, I find common knowledge to be at a far higher level in Thailand. The Filipina takes pride in telling you that she is "simple". Knowledge is not valued there like it is in the West. I had a Filipina g/f that graduated at the top of the class from the University of Cebu in Accounting. Yet she struggled to solve "what is 10% of 100". When I questioned her about it, she said it was a difficult equation with out a calculator.

Last week I saw a BIB stop a wrong way Thai motorcycle driving on Beach Road in Jomtien. I was shocked as there is a constant flow of wrong way Thai drivers that are ignored by the local BIB. Maybe I misunderstood the reason for the stop but it was lunch time and the BIB looked hungry.

When I shipped by the Post Office, they just wanted copies of my green book and passport. I took the originals and they made copies

How did the seat modification work out? I have a 300 SYM and would like to redo the seat. Every motor cycle I've ever had needed seat improvement. It makes such a difference in the comfort of a motorcycle. I'd love to see pictures and get your comments. Thanks!

Check out the thread "Shipping a motorcycle in Thailand?" I just shipped my Sym 300 from Kho Samui to Pattaya using the Post Office.

What the post office wanted from me was a copy of my passport and a copy of my Green Book. Maybe the papers from your dealer will work but you should go to the post office where you live and check on it.

I have a large Givi box on my PCX 150 but often need more room when hauling goods home from Big C or Home Pro. I have 2 reusable cloth bags (bought at Big C) that I tie together at the handles and throw them over the seat like saddle bags. I'm always amazed how much stuff we can haul back home. When not in use, I fold them up and keep them under the seat.

Yesterday I shipped my 300 SYM from Kho Samui to Pattaya by the Post Office. I was at the Pao at 830 AM when it opened and was finished in 45 min. The shipping was 4,200. and the insurance was 1000 baht. Very easy. I gave the man an extra 500 the wrap it well for shipping. They had many different sizes of boxes to ship other item if needed-some very big. I think they will ship anything. They said one week to arrive in Pattaya.

I'd like to find a friendly group to ride with. A moderate pace. My racing years are behind me. Any suggestions? Thanks

There's a shop at Big C Extra on Pattaya Klang on the 2nd floor in the aisle between a drug store and a bra shop that has many magnifying glasses.

I hit a dog in Lao last year and went down. Also got skinned up good. It was a painful incident but kept thinking "so happy it wasn't worse!" I hope not so painful and you bounce back quickly.

I don't give anything to my GF's mother except for birthdays. I give 12,000 a month to my GF's daughter for college and living expenses - as long as she maintains an above average grade point average which she does.

Thank you Samran and Bangkokrick for the Netflix info. I will follow up.

I can't get that "loin cloth made of tree bark" out of my head.

3000 odd baht for an Apple TV at MBK, $10/month for an IP and DNS package, $8 per month for a Netflix package = all the telly you could ever want.
I also have Apple TV and very happy with it but Netflix is not offered in Thailand. Are you able to get it in Thai?

I'm thinking of riding my 300cc motor cycle from Pattaya to Surat Thani (Koh Samui). Has anyone made this trip? I see the VIP bus takes about 12 hours from BKK to Surat Thani, so that gives me a rough idea of the time required. I think I would allow 3 days each way. How are the roads? Traffic? Anything I should know in advance? Thank you!

The Post Office?? Really? I would have never guessed that route. Thank you very much. I will check it out.

Has anyone had an experience with shipping a motorcycle by truck within Thailand? Thanks!

Thank you for the post Andrew. I found it interesting and now want to know more about the Burmese Wars. Being an American, I really didn't learn about the British wars with the exception of the one in 1776 against the "Colonies". I was surprised the Thais had the technology to cast a cannon back in 1623. When I toured the King's armory in BKK I noticed the majority of cannons were of British manufacture with a few from the USA.

Thank you guys. Those are great leads. I will go check them out.

It seemed like such a well thought out plan. I'm surprised it didn't work out better for the two.
