  1. As far as I am aware any oil or gas found belongs to the king. So no get rich quick opportunities here.

This is correct. The legislation states 'Minerals belong to the state. No one can explore for minerals or undertake mining unless a prospecting license or mining lease is first obtained.'.

  2. From an email sent by Thai Air, EVA was also due to move on the same date.

Due to unplanned testing of Heathrow’s baggage systems, Thai Airways' planned move into Terminal 2 on the 2nd of July 2014 has been postponed until later in the summer. Until the new move date, flights will be departing as normal from Heathrow Terminal 3.

This is to allow Terminal 2’s baggage systems to be further trialled and tested so that everything works as it should. Journey times will not be affected and we apologise for any inconvenience caused – we look forward to welcoming you to the new Terminal 2 in due course.

When all 23 Star Alliance member airlines have been phased into Terminal 2, it will be the first time ever that they all operate from a single hub. This will provide passengers with a seamless experience, providing shorter connecting time between flights. The terminal will also have more automated processes and common facilities than currently exists in any of Heathrow's other terminals, thus providing passengers more control over their journey.

Thai Airways check in area will be located in zone A at the new terminal.

  3. Question for Bender. We know Thai Air losing lot of money up to last week, please tell us what has happened that they are booming this week, does not mention Thai Air in this article.

Look at Thai Airlines own reports its pretty sorry reading as regards passenger loads. I can only really comment on UK-BKK travel and frankly they are the most expensive. With THY now promoting heavily Europe to Asia via IST they just don't know how to respond.

  4. These days I actually prefer EMirates simply because it breaks changing in DXB breaks up the flight. With meals on each leg and watching films on their excellant ICE system the time does seem to go faster. One thing that puts me off BA is the arrival time at LHR 16:55 is that its rush hour both for flights and getting out of LHR by road or rail. Thai and EVA are due to move to the new terminal 2 in a couple of weeks.

  5. Lat month just before the coup we stayed a couple of times in a 3* hotel near Secon. Yes they were noisy but only usually when they first arrived, usually about 4am. My biggest gripe is that the hotel turned off the internet when they were around. When the tour buses left at 9am back came the internet. They seemed to be all well dressed. Seemed to find me interesting as the only westerner staying there and with a Thai wife and our 23 year old daughter.

Don't forget foreign travel is very new for all the Chinese you see in tour groups. As a previous poster said they just need a little education on the fact that social habits are different elsewhere.

My wife talked to the owner about them. They weren't liked BUT without them the hotel would probably have closed. The owner also stated that some 4* hotels were now dropping their rates just to get the Chinese tour groups.

  7. A yearly story.

Again and again people fall in this trap.

I have seen more than one report/feature about this berry picker topic in the past years.

If these reports are true, there is definitely no minimum wage.

The workers are treated as "independent" contractors and carry the risk of a bad crop.

I certainly remember this same story a couple of years ago or so.

  8. Hopefully I will take flight on it chiang mai - bangkok when it is first delivered. Never flown on a screamliner and 400 odd miles might be as far as I want to go on one.

Why would they use such a big plane on a 1-hour domestic flight? That would be commercial suicide.

Crew orientation. All airlines put new aircraft types onto short trips to get the crew air and ground crews used to them and check that their operating procedures work as expected. Air France put their first A380 on the CDG-LHR route. Advertised heavily and filled them up. BA put their 787 initially on the Stockholm run I believe.

  9. drove from Phrakhon Chai to Bangkok today in a pick driven by step son. The route was Nang Rong down to Wattana Nakhon can't remeber the road number. \Done it loads of times. Anyhow stopped many times at checkpoints. Police manned checkpoints but heavily armed troops were always present. Always got a pleasant salute from the soldiers. More of an inconvenience than anything. Got into Bangkok at about 17:00 and heard about the coup on the hotels NHK news.

Most of the checkpoints were before Wattna Nakhon btw. Must have been hell in fulll military gear for those poor guys as it was scorching.
