  1. good performance especially yet again from Adam Johnson. I even grown to like Gerrard. Being captain and not having Lampard around seems to have had a very positive effect on him, as well as playing in his preferred position. Still got to prove themselves against quality opposition but I'll take what I've seen so far this season.

  2. If you've invested in a Krell its probably best to take it into Bangkok. I've seen Krell on sale there in the past, in the centre with the SOGO store next to the Erawan Hotel. Heavens knows what some local guy who only has experience of Sony and Panasonic will make of the circuitry in a Krell.

Thank you, I actually found a qualified person.

The amplifier bias was set too high, after adjustment it's working fine.

I know the Krell dealer in Bkk, He's not too keen on service, just wants to sell you something.

    regards

I should add that I'm seriously impressed by anyone who owns gear like Krell especially up country. Valve/Tube man myself.

  4. Only certain sectors of the tourist industry will be affected re the troubles AND the strength of the baht/ weakness and the Euro and other European currencies.

Backpackers - no (still cheap and will only use Bangkok as a transit point)

Sex tourists - no (Thailand is still no 1)

Families - most definately (safety of children and costs)

Honeymooners - possibily/probably (really depends on the costs of the packages that will be offered)

middle aged and older couples - most definately (same as families plus been there lets try somewhere else thats more quiet)

It is not the number of tourists that matter its the level of spending they bring. Its the ones that spend the most that will be deterred the most, sex tourists excluded as they operate under different rules.

  5. If the full paying customers be they Thai or Foreign realised what percentage of people they subsidised on every flight they would be shocked.

To be fair to the new chairman he does seem to be trying to get rid of the old culture but its so deeply ingrained that it will take a long long time.

  6. Found this in a Feb 2004 press release

    · Improving Inflight Entertainment System with Audio VDO on Demand with Touch Screen and Handset with a wide variety of movies and songs on THAI's 9 Boeing 747-400s aircraft and 8 Boeing 777-200s aircraft. The installation of new system on these aircrafts is expected to complete by the end of 2004 and the installation of Airbus A340 will be complete within 2005.

  7. Thai are the cheapest direct option at the moment for the end of May, LHR to BKK £496 with Southall Travel for the dates i want, but i really don't fancy sitting on that aged 747 that i sat on 20 years ago for 11 hours, you just have to look at some of the comments from recent travelers

    http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/thai.htm

Eva is showing no seats available, that leaves Qantas and BA, both over £650

    Emirates with 600 channels.

The sad fact about Thai and its 747s is that back in 2005 they started revamping the fleet. I had a nice pdf document from Thai about it. Nice pictures of the a/c new colour scheme, new uniforms and the new back of seat entertainment system. I'm sure a few of you remember the photo of the new uniform where one of the models had the glummest look you could imagine.

Back to 2010 and we've swapped to Emirates and even my wife has to admit Thai is not number 1. Its nice to fly with a modern airline.

  8. This is good news, I do wonder if the real long haul operators will be jittery for a day or so in case flights are re routed, this situation could change at any moment, if this ash cloud gets worse I am sure they won't hesitate to close it all again.

I can't help wondering that there's some politics at play here, once they opened up the airspace for overflying this seemed inevitable with BA playing these tricks and diverting flights to every surrounding country. I really hope there aren't any incidents with any flights after this reopening.

I also suspect that BA could be gathering evidence for future litigation against the powers that be within the UK.

Its certainly an interesting situation. Who knows how it will pan out.

I think the clincher tonight was the Eazyjet flight. It would have spent its whole flight below 20,000ft. Why conduct the flight at the time that they did, when a number of BA flights were approaching UK airspace ?

Meanwhile it looks like BA84 will be the first to land.
