  1. I cannot recommend any Thai Lawyers.

The advice given by PEPE is well worth listening to.

There may not be enough left to pay the Lawyers, and if the Big Boys are involved, be very careful.

I know personally someone that has lost it all to similar type people.

Take care, and i hope it works out for you...

  2. youtube wont be available for a long time:

    http://www.bangkokpost.com/topstories/tops...s.php?id=118515

Reading this story in the Bangkok Post, The Ministry for the big eye, intends to start legal action against youtube and its owners, Google.

    It is an interesting read.

"This YouTube issue is about a private firm in the US trying to bully a small country like Thailand," Mr Sitthichai said. (BANGKOK POST)

I think it is time to find a new search engine.

My feeling is that we may not be able to access Google for to much longer...

  3. 37 posts in this thread, and only 1 on topic....

    now 38....

I will try to add a few lines on this topic

Rent here is cheap. I pay 12000 per month, (1 bedroom apartment in central phuket)

Fuel is the same price as Australia, so not a lot of diference there

    Car hire here is cheap

Electricity here is expensive using Aircon every night (6 Baht/Unit)

Cigarettes are cheap 60 Baht a pack. ($10.00 in Australia (270 Baht))

Beer is about the same parice as Oz.

    Food is cheap.

Average price for a snack, or cooked food at the markets is 20-40 baht a serve

McDonalds is about the same price as Oz.

    Building costs are cheap

A maid for washing/Ironong/cleaning is very cheap.

Taxi's and Tuk Tuks are expensive here compared to Bangkok, but still a lot cheaper than Australia.

Going out to a restaraunt is cheap.

Value for money, Thailand is a great place.

  4. The problem that has been created is one of logistics for those passengers that are needing to fly into one airport and out of the other.

Changing airports is a PITA, but if someone could organise efficient transfers between airports, it could be a lot better.

The problem is not a lot different to transferring between Heathrow and Gatwick for example.

There are major traffic issues at times on the M25, which can take the transfer time from 1 hour to several hours.

    Shanghai is also another example.

If Thai were to look at solutions that are used in other places, i am sure they could come up with something workable.

Perhaps get some of the Thai Execs to go to LHR and have a look.

They could bunk at Thaksins place to save a few Baht.

    My 2 bobs worth...

  5. I flew Tiger to Singapore yesterday, i did not see any mention of the departure tax on the e ticket.

Was not asked for it at the airport, and had no problem, so i assume i was paid at some point.

I booked the ticket about 1 week ago.

Flight centre is a reputable travel agent, so i am sure if the OP was originally charged for it, it will get sorted out.

    Cheers

  6. The involvement of any outside Military forces, in whatever capacity (even an advisory or training role) would potentially escalate things.

IMHO, the correct decision has been made.

If consideration were to be given to bringing in outside advisors, would it not be best to look at their qualifications, and the outcomes of other similar conflicts that they are involved in.

In that case the CV of the US Military, may not be get them the job, IMHO....

  7. I Have just had a look at the site for the airline.

It seems to be one flight per day, originating in Penang and turning around in Phuket.

This would mean an overnight stay in Penang.

Prices are listed on the site, and are cheap.

A search for a return flight HKT - PEN - HKT, lists a price of about THB1000

The fare structure seems to have several price options for the HKT-PEN leg.

    The cheapest is FREE... :o:D:D

Could be a good option in Future

  8. Rubbersoul,

One of the things that we inclued in my wifes initial tourist Visa application, was our future plans.

We stated that this was an initial visit to enable her to find out about life in Australia, and that we planned to marry and settle in Australia in the future.

This was used as a statement supporting why we had extra incentive to abide by all Visa conditions.

Not sure if this is relevant to your situation, but it was i believe one of the factors in our sucessful application.

  9. 48R sounds right.

just go the DIMIA web site (google:DIMIA) and follow the prompts.

It will give you all of the information that you need.

Also consult Thai Visa, it has a lot of information.

The main things that i found were to make sure that you supply them with as much relevant information as possible.

Make sure to cover reasons that your gf has to return to Thailand.

Also copies of emails, photos etc.

Most of my communication with my gf (now wife) was by MSN Messenger, using audio.

I kept a log of calls in Excel, and gave them this as well.

Anything else that you need to know, feel free to PM me or post the question here.

Also look on the forum as a lot of questions have been answered already.

BTW, we got a Tourist Visa for my gf, 1st attempt, 12 month multi entry.

Is is a laborious task putting it together, but worth it.

    Hope this helps.

  10. I cannot speak for all, but the ones who stand out are the ones that give all of us a bad name.

In patong, you always notice the loudest, most obnoxious ones.

I am australian, so i can say, a lot are Aussies, but i am sure that all countries have their people that should never be issued passports.

Some are obviously here to have a good time without thought for the other people around then at the time.

I cringe at times and wonder what Thai's must think of us all...

There are a lot of others that seem to go about unnoticed.

They are quiet and respectful, just normal families.

I am sure that there are some strong opinions on this issue, and look forward to reading the following posts.
