  2. By the sound of your post you work for an Airline, and need to fly to earn money?

Surely if you spoke to the embassy, they would return your passport to enable you to work.

Once they have sighted the original and taken a copy i would not imagine that they still need it.

Have you explained this situation to them?

  3. Airbus has officially handed over the first A380 to Singapore Airlines in a ceremony held at its Delivery Centre Toulouse, France in the presence of over 500 guests. The aircraft was officially handed over to Chew Choon Seng, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Singapore Airlines by Airbus President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Enders in presence of Chief Executive Officer Rolls-Royce Sir John Rose.

The A380 will take-off for Singapore on 16th October, arriving at Singapore’s Changi International Airport the following day.

The A380 has an unmatched fuel efficiency of less than three litres per passenger per 100 kilometres.

The aircraft's efficiency and advanced technologies results in higher operational flexibility and outstanding economics - with a range of more than 8,000 nm/15,000 km and seat-mile costs 20 percent lower than the former largest aircraft.

  4. Ajarnmark,

That particular PM was sent to quite a few members by the look of it.

    I got it as well.

If you go to the senders profile, you will see that quite a few people have viewed it this evening.

Strange for a newbie that just joined today.

Who else will own up to getting that PM, and looking at the senders profile? :o

  5. Whatever Airline you fly, be a member of their Frequent Flyer program.

With Thai i believe that you have to fly 10,000 miles to qualify for the basic level, which does not entitle you to any extra luggage allowance.

If you fly with Qantas, you can get an extra 10KG of you are a frequent flyer.

The easy answer is to buy your tuna and toothpaste in Australia

  6. Hi All,

I will be travelling from Thailand to Singapore next week with a fair load of luggage, and have an overnight stop in Singapore.

We will be staying downtown, and i would like to avoid lugging all of our luggage with us.

Is there a luggage storage facility at Changi, where we could leave a lot of our stuff for 24 hours?

  7. Finding the balance in bringing up a child is something that i am just starting to grasp.

My Daughter is only 4 months old, so the decisions on how to discipline her are all in front of me.

I dread the thought of having to discipline her as she gets older, but i know we will have to.

She will test acceptable boundaries, and need to be taught what is acceptable, and what is not.

How to best do this i do not know.

As i child i was smacked/spanked by my father.

I was caned at school.(and deserved it)

At home, our parents always seemed to have the right balance.

We were smacked, but never in anger, and never excessively.

When we misbehaved, we were sent to our rooms and told "your father would be down to see you shortly"

The anticipation of the punishment was worse than the punishment a lot of the time.

I have talked to my parents about this now, and had a laugh about it.

When they would send us to our room, they would sit down and have a cup of coffee/tea.

They would discuss what punishment fitted the crime, and make sure that the punishment was not handed out in Anger.

I hope that i have the wisdom and balance that my parents had.

  8. I'm sure that you can easily transfer all the money you can possibly lay your hands on, to your girlfriends account here in Thailand. She will supply you with all the information you need. Do not worry the money will arrive in one or two days. It's very easy. You can also rest assured that this is probably the wisest decision you have ever made in your life, and you probably have a lot of spare time in the future to bask in the memory of such a wise decision. Good luck to you, you are truly brave and adventurous. You are truly the high quality of Farang the country needs, and is looking for.

    WELCOME

    :o:D :D

  9. Wonder how they so often seem to get the culprits to confess.

    a large pipe/baton

This ties in well with another thread in this forum:

Phuket Residents & Tourists Can Feel Safer Soon !

    More Police Coming :D

I bet we all feel safer now knowing the standard of Thai policing.

    Lets get this straight:

Two teenagers arrested by police have reportedly confessed

The main break in the case followed from sharp police work.. :D

As stated by earlier posters, this makes Keystone cops look efficient.

And Smartcosse may not have been far from the truth with his post.

Lt Col Somkid declined to comment on the possibility of a forced confession, saying that he well understood the pressure to solve the high-profile case.

    Quote:Phuket Gazette

The only good thing about this is the loss of face by the police in having to admit the outcome.

    Signed.

    Angry Phuket Resident. :o

  10. If your heart is set on accompanying her back to UK, go see a travel agent, and get them to book all of the fares.

They can book it all and make sure that you are on the same flight back to the UK.

When you check in for your BKK-LHR flight, you will get seated together. (unless you are in business class and she is econ.)

Try sticking a post in the General section of the forum to see if any members are flying Bkk-LHR that week, that might save you an airfare.

  11. :D:o:bah:

Well, the Embassy called again today. Visa Approved.

We can go to Bangkok next week to pick it up.

Total processing time from when they received it was just over 2 weeks.

It was delayed as we had to send some additional docs to them last week.

Had we lodged it with the original of my wifes birth cert and the updated form 47sp, it would have been even quicker.

A huge thank you to all on this forum who have directly and indirectly contributed to the success of this application.

    :D :D :D

  12. Thai tax collections higher than expected

The Finance Ministry’s revenue collection for the 2007 fiscal year is slightly higher than originally projected, as the stronger baht and political uncertainties have affected local consumption and investment, according to Permanent Secretary for Finance Suparut Kawatkul.

He said the government’s revenue earned for fiscal 2007 (October 2006-September 2007) totalled 1.45 trillion baht, up only 25.6 billion baht from the projected 1.42 trillion baht and a rise of 105.91 billion baht from the revenue collected in the previous fiscal year.

  13. Maccy,

She may get a little homesick when she is there, particularly if you are away at work all day and she cannot go out.

What i did in the same situation was this:

Before leaving Thailand, we went and bought a heap (100+) DVD's, which were a mixture of Thai language and English.

Genuine DVD's are surprisingly cheap in Bangkok, due to an oversupply in the market... :o

This gives her hours of entertainment.

Get a phonecard for calling to Thailand, so she can call home when she wants.

Explain to her only to call using the phonecard, as calls direct are expensive.

When you have time off, go out together and use public transport, or whatever she will use if you are not about.

This will help her to get used to it.

Get her a prepaid mobile. (ONLY A PREPAID, NOT POSTPAID)

You can control the expenditure on a pre paid mobile.

Program your mobile number into the memory.

Now when she goes out, she can call you if she gets lost.

Find a local Asian grocery store.

A good one will stock a lot of things that she will need to cook Thai food.

Being able to have food she is familiar with will help.

Get in touch with other TV members in Sydney, they will know the best shops for food, where to go etc.

Also search this forum. There was a thread in the past month with a lot of guys from Sydney posting on this exact subject.

Also make sure that she is able to get about by herself.

Nothing worse than being in another country and feeling like you cannot go anywhere.

  14. Getting a mandatory HIV test, and having to surrender her passport to her employer does not sit well with me.

Do you have the name of the property that she is going to work for?

    Do you know the town?

Can you check it out to see if it is legit?

Perhaps find some Thai Visa members in that town and PM them ask what they know of the place.

It could all be legit, but it does not hurt to ask a few questions.
